And so we come to Week Four–marking the end of September, the month that ushered in the debut of DC Comics-The New 52 and the unprecedented transformation of the entire DC Universe. It’s hard to believe we’re finally here because for us September started a long time ago. Let me explain:
It’s been quite a ride since the writers conference that initiated this evolution. It’s been a year of pitch meetings, story conferences and design sessions that often went far into the night. It’s been a year of hard work on everyone’s part and truth be told – it’s been a lot of fun.
There’s a legal thriller beginning in Los Angeles and paparazzi from around the world have got to be there as the trial begins for Michael Jackson’s former personal physician. Dr. Conrad Murray is charged with the involuntary manslaughter of the King of Pop. The question is: will he beat it? From our "MAD 20 Dumbest 2009" issue (#502), comes this hit.
It’s official! All 52 first issues of DC Entertainment’s historic publishing initiative DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 have sold out from Diamond Comic Distributors in advance of publication. And all 52 issues will receive second printings.
Here’s a further look inside the numbers for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52:
· ACTION and BATGIRL already have third printings and JUSTICE LEAGUE, the bestselling comic book to date for all of 2011, is in its fourth printing.
For the last couple of years, with every 2-year subscription to MAD, we’ve offered a collectible, limited-edition print of a classic MAD cover. And when MAD #512 goes on sale on Oct. 25, it will announce the latest print in the collection — “Alfred Eating Corn on the Cob.” Um, except that we just announced it here…oops.
The first event of the DC Comics-The New 52 Art Tour kicked of at Bergen Street Comics in Brooklyn on Saturday spotlighting Cliff Chiang’s stunning artwork on WONDER WOMAN #1.
By all accounts the event was a huge success. Fans began lining up hours before the event was to begin and wrapped outside the store.
