(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC Comics-The New 52, Tuesday Morning (ET) Edition

The previews for the second issues of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 continue to roll in. Take a look at what people are saying about the books on sale tomorrow:

Following up on their recent preview of his DEMON KNIGHTS #1, the Paul Cornell enthusiasts at WIRED’s UNDERWIRE have an exclusive 4-page glimpse of STORMWATCH #2 by Cornell, Miguel Sepulveda and Al Barrionuevo.

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS interviewed MEN OF WAR writer Ivan Brandon to accompany their exclusive preview of issue #2. “He's of a different era,” Brandon said of the difference between Frank and Jack Rock. “And he's dealing with the weight of that lineage, of being down the line from a great man who was a hero in a war that didn't throw the term around. Frank Rock was a natural. Joe Rock is younger, still learning how to be a hero.”

Meanwhile, YAHOO's ASSOCIATED CONTENT has your first look at STATIC SHOCK #2. “This decision better integrates Static into the wider DCU by placing him in a major city already populated by other DCU heroes (Hawkman, Captain Atom),” said the series’ co-writer and artist Scott McDaniel about relocating Virgil Hawkins and his family to New York City. “This relocation forces the character to take the next step in his development.”

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC Comics-The New 52, Monday Evening (ET) Edition

On Wednesday, the first set of issue #2s from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 will go on sale. There's a ton of exclusive previews out there to whet your appetite.

USA TODAY has your first look at ACTION COMICS #2. "He has his reasons and they almost kind of make sense," series writer Grant Morrison told USA TODAY of Lex Luthor. "But then you dig a little deeper and you find this very petty, jealous, envious man, and unfortunately that's what drives his brilliance. He's a very strong character and has to be a real balance with Superman."

THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ran an exclusive preview of O.M.A.C. #2. "OMAC is a character I remember when it first came out. I enjoyed it immensely," said series writer Dan DiDio to THE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS. "The idea that you think you're in control of things and you lose your sense of control and that even when you think you're doing things your own way, someone else may be leading you — it was really a fascinating core theme."

Along with their exclusive preview of GREEN ARROW #2, POPMATTERS wrote a terrific analytic post about the psychology of the series. “For nothing more than a ‘solid superhero story’, Krul and Jurgens evoke a richness that is seldom glimpsed at,” they wrote.

IGN has your exclusive first look at BATWING #2 and NEWSARAMA premiered a 5-page interior sequence from HAWK AND DOVE #2.

Just in time for the haunting month of October, the CHICAGO TRIBUNE ran their list of the 10 Best Horror Graphic Novels for Halloween. DC Entertainment secured 5 of the 10 spots, with titles including BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN, SWAMP THING VOL. 1, BOOKS OF MAGIC, ARKHAM ASYLUM and HELLBLAZER.

And continuing the spooky theme this month brings, top ranking horror website BLOODY DISGUSTING talked horror/dark comics with I, VAMPIRE writer Joshua Hale Fialkov. “For me, I wanted to take the best parts of horror and romance fiction, and combine it with what makes DC Comics great,” Fialkov said of his series. “We have a huge canvas to paint on, we will we rub-up against other characters and books, which is a blast to write. I'm really being given the freedom to tell a huge story all on my own with all of these great toys to play with. You'll definitely see some huge DC characters in the book in the not too distant future.”

DC Comics-The New 52 Art Tour on The Source with Cliff Chiang

You’ve heard that retailers across the country are hosting artists from DC Comics-The New 52 and displaying process pieces from their new comic book series. Well, for those of you who can’t make it to the events we thought we’d bring a version of it right here for you to see.

To start us off, WONDER WOMAN artist Cliff Chiang takes us through the process of designing Hermes with series writer Brian Azzarello.

Along with Cliff Chiang, this week we’ll hear from the DC Comics-The New 52 Art Tour participants: Rags Morales, Francis Manapul, Doug Mahnke, J.H. Williams III and Yanick Paquette. So come back daily and enjoy!

We went through a few different looks for Hermes, starting with a Western look, complete with duster and floppy hat. Brian actually wanted him naked underneath, but I thought it'd make Hermes just look like a creepy guy on the subway.

In any case, it didn't feel mythic enough, so Azz suggested bird feet. I liked the sound of that, and tried incorporating into a second design, with a Japanese motif. We were trying to find analogues for the classic Hermes metal cap, like the one worn by the FTD icon, or the Golden Age Flash. So I tried using a Japanese farmer's hat. We thought it looked cool, but it didn't feel new.

With versions 3 and 4, we looked more towards avant garde fashion, and I gave him a sort of golden bicycle helmet. With version 4, I liked how weird and tall he was looking, but Brian still had something else in mind. Like an updated doughboy, with some wispy facial hair and a weak chin. I had trouble visualizing it.

Brian sent me a few sketches, which I incorporated into Hermes' final design. He's changed even from this stage, getting taller and more alien-looking. It was important to give Hermes a really distinctive look, since he's one of the first gods we get a good look at and he's a crucial member of Wonder Woman's crew.

And here's what he looks like in his first appearance in the pages of  WONDER WOMAN #1:

A first look at BATMAN: NOEL

This holiday season, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol gets the Gotham treatment. Inspired by the classic story, BATMAN: NOEL is an oversized, original graphic novel that offers a brand new twist on the tale of Scrooge and the ghosts who haunt him.

In BATMAN: NOEL, The Dark Knight must come to terms with the rogue gallery of his past, present and future. And as much as Batman is the focal point, the other star here is the book’s writer and artist: Lee Bermejo. You may know him from THE NEW YORK TIMES bestselling graphic novel, JOKER, or his Superman story in WEDNESDAY COMICS, which was serialized in USA TODAY.

Look for BATMAN: NOEL in stores on November 2nd.
