It’s been a week of conventions, collectibles and this thing called The Culling here on DCComics.com. And while you should keep an eye on the website all weekend long for exclusive C2E2 CON AWAY FROM CON coverage, there was plenty of news to break before we even left for Chicago. Let’s take a look at some of it, shall we?
Here’s what happened on the DC Comics website this week…
Chicago, Illinois. Home to the Cubs, the Sears Tower and some of the country’s best hot dogs. And for the weekend of April 13-15, it’ll also be home to over 35,000 of the nation’s most enthusiastic comic book fans as the 2012 Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo unfolds.
Here at Vertigo, we pride ourselves on being edgy. It’s not enough to publish a comic about Jesus, we have to make him punk rock. If we’re going to tackle the subject of modern warfare, we’re going to focus on the war that hundreds of soldiers wage each day on their own lives. And if we’re going to publish a presidential drama, it’s going to have aliens in it, dammit. But this week we’re embracing our more artistic and literary side, as we learned two of our graphic novels have been nominated for the Huge Award. We’re honored to be up for such a prestigious award.
The countdown to the end of the world begins!

You’ll find out soon enough, but in the meantime THE RAVAGERS artist Ian Churchill discusses what to expect from the new series born of the events of “The Culling.”

This summer, DC Entertainment will publish BEFORE WATCHMEN, seven all-new prequel mini-series building on the foundation of the bestselling graphic novel of all time – and at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) this weekend, fans will have access to creator panels, signings and the NEW FRONTIERSMAN promotional newspaper – available for the very first time at the event.
On Wednesday, Charles Manson was denied parole for the 12th, and probably final, time. Ever since being locked up 40 years ago for engineering a series of grisly murders, ol’ Chuckles just can’t catch a break! We’re sure that the parole board must have had their reasons for keeping the wild-eyed kook from sweet, sweet freedom — in fact, here they are!
In the video below, writer Tim Carvell talks about his new Planet Tad book, based on the blog parody featured in every issue of MAD. The book will be on sale May 8, and you can preorder your copy by clicking here!
