DC Week-In-Review: June 8th

DC Week-In-Review: June 8th

By Tim Beedle Friday, June 8th, 2012

In BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #1, Hollis Mason writes about the excitement and enthusiasm that surrounded the early days of masked crime-fighting. Well, if this week is any indication, we could say pretty much the same thing about the early days of Before Watchmen. After a year of speculation and discussion, the first issue of Before Watchmen has arrived. You couldn’t stop talking about it. And, well, we couldn’t either.

Here’s what went down this week on the DC Comics website…

Last week, we announced Injustice: Gods Among Us, an upcoming fighting game from the creators of Mortal Kombat that features some of your favorite DC heroes and villains. We started off this week with a series of exclusive character images from the game. Go check out Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn and the full six characters that have been revealed so far. Then check out the Injustice Facebook page for more art and videos.

We also raised our glasses and offered up a hearty congratulations to this year’s Eagle and Reuben Award winners.

But come mid-week, most of the talk was about Before Watchmen, and the DC website was no different. We started things off by putting together a Before Watchmen checklist for you. Interested in a certain Before Watchmen comic? This is a good place to start.

We also updated the Watchmen character page to serve as a one-stop shop for recent Before Watchmen updates. Trust us, you’ll want to keep an eye on this one.

After that, we offered up a small tease from each June issue of Before Watchmen. It started with BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN, before continuing with next week’s BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE, as well as BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN and BEFORE WATCHMEN: NITE OWL, which will both hit shops later this month.

As if that weren’t enough, we also announced that we’d be compiling BEFORE WATCHMEN: THE CURSE OF THE CRIMSON CORSAIR in its entirety on DCComics.com. Oh, and did we mention it’s free? The first installment is up now.

After all that, it would’ve been easy to sit back and spend the rest of the weekend debating which of the Minutemen would make the best action figure, but nope, we had more cool stuff to announce.

The first was the debut chapter of LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT, our new digital-first series that features some of the biggest names in comics and entertainment telling stand-alone Batman tales. How big? Well, just look at who we got to write and draw the first chapter—Damon Lindelof and Jeff Lemire!

And finally, a week this big could only end with a major announcement (and you know we’d hate to disappoint). Mark your calendars. September is THE NEW 52 “0” Month, a month of zero issues that promise to tell the untold origins of some of your favorite New 52 characters, while introducing four brand new titles.

Wow! That’s a lot. And we’ll be doing it all again next week. We’ll see you in seven!
