Seriously, what happened to summer? It feels like last week we were making plans for Memorial Day, talking about how Comic-Con was just around the corner and speculating on what characters Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard would be playing in The Dark Knight Rises. Now, all three of those events are in the rearview mirror, and here we are looking forward to going back to school, dressing up for Halloween and watching our DVRs fill up again (and just when we’d managed to get through everything on them from last season!). In short, we may be in disbelief about how quickly summer has passed us by, but we’re not sad about it. How could we with so much cool stuff on the horizon?

But let’s talk about the cool stuff that hit the site this week, shall we? Because there was plenty of it.

Here’s what went down this week on the DC Comics website…

Monday began a week-long look at our latest batch of Annuals, which for newer fans are extra-sized issues of your favorite titles that only come out once a year. We’re still talking about the events that took place in BATMAN ANNUAL #1 and ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL #1, so of course we’re counting down the days to next Wednesday, which will see the release of Annuals for Detective Comics, The Flash, Superman, Green Lantern aaaaaaaand…Justice League International (which features a guest appearance by our man Blue Beetle)!

We also gave you fine fans a first look at some amazing new covers, including this magical JUSTICE LEAGUE #0 variant by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado, as well as a Chris Samnee variant for BEFORE WATCHMEN: NITE OWL #3 and a Robot Chicken variant for AQUAMAN #12 that had everyone talking (at least until that other cover was released later in the week).

On Wednesday, we announced a series of weekly giveaways that we’ll be conducting through Twitter. You still have a few more days to enter to win a Phantom Stranger card that’s been signed by Dan DiDio, who also wrote a pretty cool secret about PHANTOM STRANGER #0 on the back. We’re not telling you what it is. The only way to find out is to win it.

For those of you who enjoy reading your comics digitally, we announced a new update to the popular DC Comics App. Now the next time you’re floored by an unbelievable cliffhanger in the latest issue of Legion, it’s easier than ever to share that issue with your friends.

And for any dogs who might be reading this (or maybe dog owners) we gave you an exclusive first look at our new line of DC Comics-inspired dog toys and apparel. Well, they do call it the dog days of summer, right?

5.2 Reasons this week was all about DC Collectibles, and why they’re often must-buys for fans. (Apparently, measuring sharks is involved.)

But really, the big news this week revolved around the JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 cover and what can only be referred to as the comic book kiss of the year (if not the decade). Entertainment Weekly broke the news with their exclusive cover reveal. Then, for the sake of anyone who was wondering how Lois Lane might be taking to the news, they posted a page of her top-secret diary. Wow… Did EW out-scoop The Daily Planet’s star reporter?

So what do you think of Superman and Wonder Woman as the DC’s new power couple? And who do you think would make the perfect double date for them? Sound off in the comments below, and we’ll see you again in seven!
