The infamous WATCHMEN character Oyzmandias was named after the protagonist in an 1818 sonnet by English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Yet for years, fans have debated the correct pronunciation of his name: is it Ozymandias or Ozymandias?

In this issue, series writer Len Wein finally clears up the debate that’s been occurring ever since the original WATCHMEN series debuted.

 

“When I first read the Shelley poem, I decided in my own head how the name Ozymandias was pronounced,” Wein told THE SOURCE. “When WATCHMEN came along and I heard lots of people pronouncing the name with emphasis on a different syllable, I was surprised. So I just thought I'd address the issue in the new book.”
