In a week that saw The Dark Knight Rises coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD, “Death of the Family” coming to Detective Comics and Huntress firing her first crossbow on Arrow, who would’ve thought that the thing we’d be talking about most this week was a pair of handcuffs? But if this year’s taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. And maybe not to get too attached to our bean salad.

Annnyhow, here’s what went down this week on the DC Comics website…

We started this week by looking ahead (it was a Monday, can you really blame us?). All the way ahead to next May, as a matter of fact. Because that’s when the second volume of Vertigo’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO adaptation hits stores.

After that, it was time to break out the champagne to celebrate the “Robot Chicken DC Comics Special” and Cartoon Network’s “MAD” Annie Award nominations. So okay, maybe Mondays aren’t all bad…

Tuesday hit with the force of a batarang as The Dark Knight Rises made its highly anticipated Blu-Ray debut. And as a thank you to fans who helped spread the word, we released an image from our next sure-to-be-blockbuster, Man of Steel. If you missed it, it features Henry Cavill in full costume as Superman…and a scene-stealing pair of handcuffs.

On Wednesday, DC Collectibles announced a new line of action figures tied to the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us videogame. They also released a new trailer for their upcoming Arrow statue. Next spring, all of us will be able to hang with Oliver Queen!

Speaking of Arrow, did you catch this week’s new episode? If you did, you saw Helena Bertinelli pick up her trademark crossbow for the first time and make her debut as Huntress. We’ve been talking about it since Wednesday, but we’d imagine you’d rather hear executive producer Marc Guggenheim’s thoughts on the episode. Of course, if you missed the episode, you can still share in the fun. You can watch the whole thing right now. Yes, right now.

Thursday was all about gift-giving here on DCComics.com. This was certainly true in the holiday sense, as seen in our latest 5.2 Reasons column—er, make that our 5.2 Gifts column. But we also brought the gift of information! James Robinson gave us some clues about what to expect in EARTH 2 #8. Also, we announced that the upcoming Justice League of America series will feature Martian Manhunter backups co-written by Matt Kindt. Finally, in a really exciting bit of news for fans of sci-fi, we revealed that Harlan Ellison—the writer of some of the best science fiction of our generation—is teaming up with Paul Chadwick of Concrete fame for HARLAN ELLISON’S 7 AGAINST CHAOS, a new original graphic novel coming from DC in 2013.

That would be a great way to end the week, but you know what’s also a great way of ending the week?

Friday.

Especially when we announce that Starfire will be taking center stage in an upcoming issue of DC Universe Presents. And when we announce an exciting new writer for Birds of Prey. And when we break down the great twist in this week’s DETECTIVE COMICS #15. Not read it yet? Well, if you click here we hope you enjoy getting surprising endings spoiled for you online.

Okay, we’re officially ready for the weekend, and that Dark Knight trilogy marathon we have planned for Sunday. Maybe we’ll play through Arkham City again on Saturday to prepare…

See you again in seven!
