This week, we say farewell to one old friend while saying hello to another. Since the launch of DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 in 2011, Grant Morrison has redefined the early days of the Man of Steel in the pages of Action Comics with a series of stories that have been both intelligent and action-heavy. This week’s ACTION COMICS #18 is his swan song on his title, and while it may be sad to see him go, he’s leaving us in grand form with an extra-sized issue that promises to challenge Superman in every way possible (and perhaps a few that weren’t…at least, not until Mr. Morrison dreamed them up).
But if the thought of saying goodbye makes you sad, don’t forget that this is also a week of new beginnings as John Constantine makes his DC Comics – The New 52 debut. CONSTANTINE #1 comes to us courtesy of Justice League Dark co-writers Ray Fawkes and Jeff Lemire, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this new series will just be a simple spin-off of their other one. It has a tone and focus that’s all its own, featuring an unfiltered, more manipulative magic user, and yes…plenty of cigarette smoke. Of course, that’s just the beginning of the great stuff we have in store for you this week. The death of Damian Wayne continues to be felt, this week in the pages of Nightwing and Catwoman. “Wrath of the First Lantern” rolls on in Green Lantern: New Guardians, while Constantine also makes an appearance in the pages of Sword of Sorcery. And of course, let’s not forget our two Justice Leagues, which both get new installments with JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #2 and JUSTICE LEAGUE #18—in which Cyborg gets the spotlight for the very first time!
