It’s shaping up to be another big week in the shops, with Wednesday marking the release of the latest chapters of Superman Unchained, “Trinity War,” Animal Man, Trinity of Sin: Pandora and much more. Of course you’re dying to read them. We’re dying to read them too. However, don’t let your excitement over them cause you to miss some of the other titles on the list below. Especially with two of them offering some of the best, most emotionally perfect issues of their runs.

If you read Batman And…, the series that we once used to call Batman and Robin, you know that writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Patrick Gleason have been doing a phenomenal job of showing us the all-too-real, all-too-difficult time Bruce Wayne’s been having of coming to terms with the death of Damian. Receiving assistance from some of his closest friends and allies, Bruce has been making his way through the stages of grief. Well, it all comes to an emotional head this week in BATMAN AND NIGHTWING #23 in a story that’s simply titled “Acceptance.” And let us just tell you, if the last two pages don’t have you wiping back tears, then you’re a far stronger soul than we are. Or you may want to have your tear ducts examined, because they might be malfunctioning.

We had a feeling something like this was bound to happen in Batman And…, but we had no idea we needed to bring tissues to this week’s WONDER WOMAN #23. But leave it to Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang to completely pull the wool out from under us. What begins as an exciting, awesome battle between Wonder Woman and her allies and the wicked First Born comes to a close with a sequence that first shocked us, then floored us with realization and then finally broke our hearts. The last image is both poignant and haunting. This is an issue Wonder Woman readers are unlikely to forget for a long time to come.

We’re going to go eat some cheesecake and put on a good comedy right now, but before we leave, we wanted to reassure you that it’s not all tragedy this week. Batwoman reaches a perhaps inevitable turning point, Arsenal takes center stage in Red Hood and the Outlaws, Maxine sets sail in a living ship in Animal Man and both Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond get amazing new creative teams in BATMAN BEYOND UNIVERSE #1.
