SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read FOREVER EVIL #1 yet and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!).

For months now, we’ve teased that the jaw-dropping events of FOREVER EVIL will have an enormous and significantly game-changing impact on the DC Universe. And this week, when the miniseries launched, readers got their first taste of what we meant.

After returning to Gotham City following the catastrophic events of “Trinity War,” Nightwing finds himself captured by the Crime Syndicate at Arkham Asylum. And his troubles only begin there.

Held hostage in front of the newly united villains of the DC Universe, Nightwing has one of his biggest fears realized. Superwoman not only unmasks him to show his face, but she also reveals his real name: Dick Grayson. If that’s not enough, this shocking loss of anonymity is broadcast for the rest of the world to see. The message is then instantly clear – if you oppose the Crime Syndicate, everything and everyone you value will be destroyed.

“For me, he's the leader of the next generation,” Johns explained in an exclusive interview with IGN. “In a vacuum where the Justice Leagues are gone, Nightwing was the top guy. Just like when the Outsider wanted to take down the Justice League originally, who's the hero he wanted to break faith in? Well, that's Superman. He's top of the food chain. But with them gone, Nightwing is top of the food chain in my eyes.”

“The Crime Syndicate are going to make an example out of him, but also Nightwing has a very personal story that I'll be telling with Owlman throughout FOREVER EVIL that connects with Dick Grayson,” he continued to tease.

Written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by David Finch, Richard Friend, and Sonia Oback, FOREVER EVIL #1 is available in stores now.
