Six-Week Campaign Begins Today and Spotlights Different Members
of the JUSTICE LEAGUE on a Weekly Basis

Super-Villains may rule DC Comics during September, but that won’t stop the JUSTICE LEAGUE from standing tall in the fight against the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. Armed with the latest dazzling array of “perks” available to fans, DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson today announced the start of the third and final “We Can Be Heroes” crowdfunding campaign slated for 2013 (www.indiegogo.com/wecanbeheroes).

“We’re extremely proud of the success of the ‘We Can Be Heroes’ crowdfunding campaign and consider this fantastic line-up of JUSTICE LEAGUE perks and fan rewards as the ideal way to end 2013’s philanthropic efforts on a high note,” Nelson said. “The participation and support ‘We Can Be Heroes’ has received from our fans, creators and partners is a true testament to the passion of the DC Comics community.  Like the JUSTICE LEAGUE, we can do a lot of good when we band together.”

The six-week initiative, which will run through October 28th, is built around the iconic members of the JUSTICE LEAGUE including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and Green Lantern, and brings DC Comics fans once-in-a-lifetime opportunities via Indiegogo, the world’s largest crowdfunding platform.  The centerpiece of the JUSTICE LEAGUE wave, as with the first two waves, are the “perks” that offer fans unique collectors’ items and one-of-a-kind experiences.  Among the notable perks rolling out over the next six weeks is an advance screening party for an episode of the CW’s hit “Arrow,” a special experience with Lynda Carter, known for her role as Wonder Woman on the popular 1970s TV show, and a unique New York Comic Con experience that includes lunch with special surprise guests.

The campaign will kick-off with perks featuring the full JUSTICE LEAGUE, followed by a spotlight on its individual members.  Each week will bring a completely new set of items, changed to showcase select Super Heroes. The schedule is as follows:

  • Week of September 17th: Justice League
  • Week of September 24th: Wonder Woman
  • Week of October 1st: Green Lantern / Green Arrow
  • Week of October 8th: The Flash / Aquaman / Cyborg
  • Week of October 15th: Batman / Superman
  • Week of October 22nd: Justice League

The JUSTICE LEAGUE wave follows wildly successful drives earlier this year themed around Batman and Superman, respectively.  Together, the two waves raised a total of $285,000.

In its second year, “We Can Be Heroes” (www.WeCanBeHeroes.org) is the largest charitable initiative in the history of DC Entertainment and Warner Bros.  The funds raised support the work of the campaign’s three humanitarian aid partners -- Save the Children, International Rescue Committee and Mercy Corps.  Together, the organizations are delivering life-saving food, medicine and other resources critical to the millions of people in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya affected by the worst hunger crisis seen in over 60 years.  To date, the campaign has raised over $2.4 million and helped over 5 million men, women and children in the Horn of Africa.
