Gotham just isn’t Gotham without Bruce Wayne.

So said Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly earlier today at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Announced last year, Gotham is Fox’s upcoming Batman prequel that focuses on a younger Jim Gordon as he comes into his own within the Gotham PD, facing corruption within the ranks as well as a burgeoning slate of outlandish super-villains.

Reilly teased a few villains we could expect to see, notably the Joker, Catwoman, the Penguin and the Riddler. But most interesting of all is the revelation that Bruce Wayne will be a part of the show, albeit at a much younger, more formative age.

Gotham received a series commitment from Fox when it was first announced, and the pilot will be executive produced and written by Bruno Heller of The Mentalist fame.
