Today, America votes, but tomorrow, the entire world reads. That’s because Wednesday brings us the super-sized, action-packed, jaw-dropping spectacle that is the final issue of Scott Snyder and Jim Lee’s Superman Unchained. Launched last year in celebration of Superman’s 75th Anniversary, Unchained has been nothing short of epic, with imagery on a massive scale and a storyline that saw Superman’s ideals and beliefs being tested to the very core. Now, he’ll have to make an impossible choice. To save all of humankind, he must become the world’s most powerful bomb, an action that will result not only in the destruction of the enemy but of himself. With time running quickly out and the fate of every living creature on the planet in the balance, will Superman sacrifice his life and his single greatest ideal?

While Superman Unchained may be ending, Gotham Academy is just beginning. Last month’s debut issue introduced us to Olive, Maps and the rest of the Gotham Academy gang, while turning us into the world’s biggest Karl Kerschl fans. Seriously, the guy’s got some serious chops and an awesome style that suits the book perfectly. Of course, series co-writers Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher are no slouches themselves, penning dialog that’s ripe with both humor and the uncertainty that’s present in so many of our nation’s teenagers. The result is an exciting addition to The New 52 that’s unlike anything else out there. If you haven’t yet given it a shot, you should. If you have read it, consider passing it on to a younger reader who may not be reading comics (yet!). Or keep it for yourself. We don’t judge!
