Tonight’s all new episode of Constantine, “The Saint of Last Resorts,” not only serves as the show’s gripping midseason finale, but also introduces yet another face from John’s past… and from his Vertigo comic, Hellblazer.

Anne-Marie, played by actress Claire van der Boom on the show, was a psychic and one of the young occult experts who witnessed Constantine’s interaction with the powerful demon Nergal. As part of the “Newcastle Crew,” she was there when Nergal killed Astra and stole her soul—the incident that landed Constantine in Ravenclaw Asylum. While she managed to hold on to her sanity, she didn’t emerge unaltered. Donning a habit, Anne-Marie found solace in the Catholic Church and became Sister Anne-Marie before meeting an untimely end and haunting John Constantine as a fairly judgmental ghost.

We’ll have to watch tonight’s episode to see if the show’s Anne-Marie follows suit (though considering it’s the first part of a two-part episode, chances are she’ll at least make it through the show’s winter hiatus). What we know right now is that after Ritchie Simpson and Gary Lester (sniff…), Anne-Marie is the third member from the Newcastle Crew that we’ve met so far on Constantine, and while details about what happened remain somewhat sketchy on the show, Hellblazer readers know the gory details. And we do mean gory.

If you can’t wait any longer and want to know everything that happened, the full story is revealed in HELLBLAZER #11 and #12. As for Anne-Marie, she was first introduced in the pages of Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing, in the classic “Growth Patterns” storyline. That kicks off with 1985’s SWAMP THING #37.
