Is a Flash by any other name just as fast?

Apparently not at this time.  The Flash from Earth-2 seems to have lost his connection to the speed force.  But once upon a DC Comics time, Jay Garrick was the one, the only, The Flash.

Created in a lab accident similar to Barry’s, Jay Garrick’s powers date back to 1940 (in our Earth’s timeline!) in FLASH COMICS #1.  He soon became one of the founding members of the JSA.  In a nod to DC Comics history, tonight’s episode is entitled, “Flash of Two Worlds,” which was the famous 1961 issue in which Jay Garrick’s world and that of a new Flash, Barry Allen, collided.  And the concept of the  multiversity was born.

What’s a Multiversity?

The Multiversity encompasses the 52 universes that make up the DCU.  Each plane of existence inhabits the same space, but vibrates at a different frequency.  Speedsters in particular have an ability to travel between worlds.  For more about the Multiversity, explore this interactive map.  And be sure to take a deep dive into Earth-2 with this DCAA video.

Where does Patty Spivot fit in?

In the world of DC Comics, Patty Spivot has been a great ally to Barry Allen.  Her abilities in the crime lab have helped Barry solve crimes time after time.  Looks like she’s a great addition to the Central City Police Force, and Team Flash.

What’s a Sand Demon?

In the pages of THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #51, Eddie Slick is a small-time wrestling promoter and, once he is imbued with his super-powered abilities, the hapless foe of Firestorm.  Interestingly enough, Eddie meets a similar fate on the show as he does on the page, though not at the hands of Firestorm, but rather those of the Flash of Two Worlds.

See you next week!
