Our boardroom presentation will include slides and slides of secrets.

Familiar faces come back to Star City with the return of Nyssa and Roy, but it's not all about warm and fuzzy reunions. A formidable technological whiz hacks into the series and threatens the city and Team Arrow. The Calculator keeps his connection to Felicity under wraps, but we're not going to let him off the hook.

Here are the #DCTV Secrets from this week's episode:

  • Who is the Calculator?
  • Not quite Project Cadmus
  • Where is Pennytown?
  • Lotus in Nanda Parbat

Don’t peek behind the mask if you don’t want to know any more. But of course you do and you will.

Crunching Facts to Add Things Up

The cunning Calculator first arrived in DETECTIVE COMICS #463. He's not called the Calculator because he's a math genius, however. Noah Kuttler began his career by wearing a costume inspired by a pocket calculator that he programmed to predict the actions of others. He eventually retired the battle suit—it really wasn't stylish, anyway—and used his incredible intellect in new ways.

The Calculator is an uber-skilled broker of information and a master manipulator. He's gone toe-to-toe with Batman and the Birds of Prey, and he's a co-founder of the Secret Society of Super-Villains.

A Genetic Connection

Roy drops by Cadmus Tech to nab a capacitor bomb, but he didn't stumble upon any genetic research…as far as we know. Project Cadmus, also known as the DNA Project, first appeared in SUPERMAN'S PAL, JIMMY OLSEN #135. Connected to the United States government, the group founded by Dr. Dabney Donovan and the Newsboy Legion focused on genetic engineering and performed experiments in cloning. And speaking of, they were eventually responsible for the creation of the new Superboy. They threw him together with genetic ingredients from Superman and Lex Luthor.

When it comes to the animated universe, Cadmus was a division of the government secretly funded by Luthor. The organization poured their efforts into defense against metahumans—including the heroes. Amanda Waller served as the division's director.

Hanging Out in the Borough

Damien Darhk's wife, Ruvé Adams, is from Pennytown. In the series, it's a local neighborhood in Star City like The Glades. In the comics, Pennytown is a borough of Seattle and first appeared in GREEN ARROW #41. Pennytown had an unofficial mayor of sorts called Big Dog.

She Who Calls Nanda Parbat Home

Will Thea defeat her bloodlust and live? Nyssa says she has a cure to stop the side effects of the Lazarus Pit; she calls the elixir the Lotus. Lotus, a criminal exile, is one of the handful of residents in Nanda Parbat in the comics. She had an encounter with Deadman in DEADMAN #2.

See you next week!
