IGN.com reviews DETECTIVE COMICS #856

August 27, 2009

Of all the various Bat-books the "Batman: Reborn" banner enticed me to try out, only two have stuck, and Detective Comics is certainly the best. Greg Rucka's work with Kate Kane has been interesting over the past couple years, but only here does it really feel like Rucka has the freedom to stretch his legs and give Kate the attention she very clearly deserves.

This issue the full scope of new crime lord Alice's master plan begins to come into focus, and Kate acquires some unlikely allies along the way. As a new villain, Alice is a perfect fit for a Bat-family hero, wonderfully twisted and psychotic. But this issue belongs to Kate, as Rucka sheds some light on what she's like outside of the cowl, as well as the supporting cast members, her family and friends.
