Young Justice take on the League of Shadows

When the CEO of a large corporation goes missing, it’ll be up to the junior heroes of Young Justice to save her. But to succeed on this rescue mission means first having to face Black Spider and Hook. Oh, and a little covert group of assassins that call themselves the League of Shadows. Can Kid Flash, Aqualad, and Robin retrieve the kidnapped woman before it’s too late? And what does the League of Shadows want with her anyway?

Written by Art Baltazar and Franco and with art by Mike Norton and colored by Zac Atkinson, YOUNG JUSTICE #4 is available in stores and digitally today.

YOUNG JUSTICE, the hit Cartoon Network series from Warner Bros. Animation, will come to DVD for the first time on July 19th with Young Justice Season 1 Volume 1. Fans of the teenage super team can revisit the first season’s exciting adventures – and if you haven’t seen the series yet, here’s your chance to catch up!

From the official description of the series:

In Young Justice, being a teenager means proving yourself over and over — to peers, parents, teachers, mentors and, ultimately, to yourself. But what if you’re not just a normal teenager? What if you’re a teenage super hero? How much harder will it be to prove yourself in a world of super powers, super villains and super secrets? Are you ready to come of age in such a world? Are you ready for life or death rites of passage? Are you ready to join the ranks of the great heroes and prove you’re worthy of the Justice League? That’s exactly what the members of Young Justice — Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis — will find out: whether they have what it takes to be a proven hero.

These teenage heroes collectively become the Justice League’s secret weapon against the forces of evil. The young protégés must put their super hero education to the test and band together to covertly fight the evildoers that exist on Earth-16. Utilizing The Cave as their home base, the teen heroes will take on under-the-radar missions that would be impossible for the league’s famous and identifiable elders to handle secretly.

While the team works to take on more super hero responsibilities, they are in constant training by the Justice League to eventually take their place alongside the great heroes. Red Tornado is their supervisor; Black Canary is in charge of their training; and Batman determines and directs their assignments. Of course, in true teenage fashion, the members of the team push the limits of their missions, often turning a simple assignment from Batman into something significantly larger.

"Where we go in the book will surprise some people"—Geoff Johns on AQUAMAN

Geoff Johns announced over the weekend at MegaCon in Orlando that he’ll be writing a new AQUAMAN ongoing series, spinning out of the events of BRIGHTEST DAY.

Today, NEWSARAMA has the first interview on the upcoming ongoing series, with Geoff explaining, "I really want to find Aquaman's place in the DC Universe, but then also explore what he means within the rest of that world."

Head over to NEWSARAMA for plenty of teases about what’s in store for Aquaman, Mera, Aqualad, and Black Manta.

BRIGHTEST DAY EXCLUSIVE: WHO IS THE NEW AQUALAD?

brightestday10

One of the key elements in BRIGHTEST DAY beyond returning characters like Aquaman and Martian Manhunter, is the introduction of entire new heroes, villains and worlds as well. Just as we’ve built a bigger universe of characters around Green Lantern with Atrocitus, Larfleeze and Indigo, we’re all busy at work turning our attention on adding heroes, villains and worlds within the rest of the DC Universe.

In the coming weeks in BRIGHTEST DAY, you’ll meet a new alien killer who will become J’onn J’onzz’s greatest enemy, a world where Hawkman and Hawkgirl will discover a great secret about their past, the mysterious and deadly Siren and a young hero who’s about to get world wide exposure this fall beyond comics – the all-new Aqualad.

When our YOUNG JUSTICE animated series for Cartoon Network was announced a few weeks ago (who ever thought we’d see an animated Miss Martian?! AW YEAH!) a lot of people asked who the new Aqualad was. And a lot of people thought they’d have to wait for the show to start. But you won’t.

Aqualad’s story actually begins in a few short weeks in BRIGHTEST DAY #4. I won’t tell you much yet, but I will tell you – he has no idea he’s about to become Aqualad. In fact, he lives in one of the driest places in America – Silver City, New Mexico.

Our goals with the DC Entertainment are to not only bring you BATMAN and SUPERMAN, but also introduce new characters in the comics and film, tv and animation simultaneously with our partners at Warner Brothers – in this case, the talented crew who’s heading up the YOUNG JUSTICE animated series, including Greg Weissman (who actually wrote CAPTAIN ATOM back in the day!).

This is the tip of the iceberg at what we’ve got brewing ahead at DCE. Next time, I’ll talk about my conversation with Mark Strong and Sinestro. Until then remember –

ALL WILL BE WELL,

Geoff
