DC Comics All Access: Ian Sattler

I was worried I'd never see daylight again. That's seriously a concern I had while playing Batman: Arkham City over the holidays this year. We all love comics (obviously) and we all love video games, so the amazing combination of Batman and brutality that was Arkham City had a lot of us spending quite a bit of time sitting inside with our game consoles. This week I'm happy to bring good news for those of you looking to expand the Arkham City experience and possibly breathe some fresh air at the same time. Batman: Arkham City Lockdown is an app available now exclusively for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. What's that, you ask? Take a look:

"Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced that the Batman: Arkham City Lockdown App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is now available on the App store. The App brings the Batman: Arkham City franchise, one of the most highly acclaimed and best-selling videogame releases of 2011, to the App Store for the first time featuring stunning graphics and original combat gameplay created exclusively for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

"Developed by NetherRealm Studios, creators of Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham City Lockdown features several of Gotham City's most dangerous criminals, including The Joker, Two-Face and Solomon Grundy, as well as i0S-exclusive character Deathstroke, and engages players in one-on-one combat as they seek justice in a variety of Arkham City environments."

So not only does this game give me Deathstroke(!) and Solomon Grundy but also all-new environments and the ability to take it with me wherever I want to go? I'm going to stop typing this All Access right now and download the App. Seriously. I'll see you all next week. Go play Batman: Arkham City Lockdown. Deathstroke!!!

Holiday Gift Guide: Gifts for Gamers

Are you shopping for gamers this holiday season? If so we’ve got a lot of great comics based on some of today’s most popular video games.  Here’s just a few comic gift ideas that are perfect for gamers:

BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED -- Go deeper into the world of ARKHAM CITY with BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED. A weekly, original digital series based on the video games BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM and BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, each 10-page chapter ties directly in to the continuity of the game and follows your favorite characters through the bedlam.  And don’t forget that the first ARKHAM digital comic series –BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY – is now available as a collected hard cover.

UNCHARTED -- The critically acclaimed and best-selling PlayStation 3 video game jumps onto the comic page, featuring an all-new action-packed story written by Joshua Williamson (SUPERMAN/BATMAN) with fantastic covers by the legendary Tony Harris. It's just in time for the newly released Uncharted #3: Drake's Deception.

DIABLO -- From the world and legends of Sanctuary, the setting for the award-winning Diablo video game, comes the tale of a hero's birth. Jacob has fled from his homeland in the north, hunted by his kinsmen for the crime of murder. Led by the visions of an ancient prophet, pursued by his childhood friend, Jacob finds his destiny in a desert cave at the foot of a mountain carved in two by the sword of an archangel. If you can't wait for next year's new Diablo game, the comic series will hold you over.

GEARS OF WAR -- There are already 20 issues of this popular comic based on the best-selling video game franchise, with the next issue due out at the end of the month. The series is written by best-selling author Karen Traviss, who also wrote the original GEARS OF WAR game and several novels about the game.  You can catch up with the series through GEARS OF WAR collected edition books on sale now.  The opening six-issue arc (Book One) bridges the end of the first Gears of War game and the start of the second one, following the brutal adventures of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad in the battle against the Locust.

END OF NATIONS -- This comic is based on the highly anticipated MMORTS game from Trion Worlds. Following a global economic collapse, the repressive Order of Nations has taken control. Resistance fighter Shane Barrett struggles against impossible odds to save his family and maybe the world. Gear up for the game with this great new comic.

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Wednesday Afternoon (ET) Edition

Today, everybody--and I mean everybody--is talking about BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY. We'll have more on that later. Til then, here's the latest and greatest coverage for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.

For the fifth time, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY has featured an exclusive preview from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 on their homepage. This time around? BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #2, which hits stores next week. And IFANBOY has your first exclusive look at a chilling sequence from I, VAMPIRE #2.

In the mood for another look into The Dark? NEWSARAMA recently caught up with SWAMP THING and BATMAN writer Scott Snyder about the upcoming SWAMP THING/ANIMAL MAN crossover, which involves the clashing of the Red and the Green. “These elements are not peaceful,” Snyder revealed. “The Red isn't peaceful, and neither is the Green. I think people want to assume it's calm and soothing. But it's not at all. It's a force of nature. It's violent and volatile. It's hungry and it wants to be the dominant force.”

COMIC BOOK RESOURCES has the exclusive coverage of the DC Entertainment NYCC party. Head over to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES to see photos from the event and to read what various writers and artists had to say about New York Comic Con, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, and more. I've never seen more DC Entertainment writers and artists gathered together. This one is definitely worth a look.

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Thursday Afternoon (ET) Edition

Lots of big things this afternoon, folks!

ROLLING STONE featured their exclusive preview of next week’s JUSTICE LEAGUE #2 on their homepage. “So how do we get from that world to the world we all kind of know DC to be, which is a one of hope and where these characters are more champions than outcasts?" DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and JUSTICE LEAGUE artist Jim Lee told ROLLING STONE. "That's what JUSTICE LEAGUE is about. It's about showing when these characters come together to save humanity, and humanity accepts who they are. Then there's that transition from that kind of dark world to one that has a little bit more hope and a brighter future."

VARIETY published an article about the widening of the Batman franchise via the marketing campaign behind the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY video game, calling out the game’s accompanying comic book series.

Entertainment website UGO has your first look at DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #2 by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang.

And the day has finally come. IFANBOY broke their six-week consecutive selection of titles from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 as their “Pick of the Week.” Some upstart named Scott Snyder claimed the title this week with his terrific Vertigo series, AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST. Seven weeks in a row of DC Entertainment titles? Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Wednesday Morning (ET) Edition

Last Friday, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES and Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles hosted a wrap party for the first month of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. The writers and artists in attendance included Brian Buccellato, Bernard Chang, Mike Costa, Dan DiDio, Josh Fialkov, Sterling Gates, Adam Glass, Kyle Higgins and Scott Lobdell. Head on over to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES to hear all of these creators talk about what titles from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 were their favorites. “It was really exciting to work with Francis on the book because he saw this book visually first,” said DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and O.M.A.C. writer Dan DiDio about THE FLASH. “He was talking about images and speed and how he was going to be able to interpret the fastest man in the world. And when you saw the art come in, you couldn’t help but get super excited because you saw this visual interpretation that feels incredibly fresh.”

Sara Lima at COMICVINE published a piece on how DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 has made iconic leading lady Lois Lane into a powerful, self-sufficient, successful and integral female character. “This Lois finally gets to be the boss. She's smart, sassy, and has no problem standing up to the man who promoted her to Vice President,” wrote Lima. “She's certainly stronger, more interesting and has a lot more depth.”

Finally, as gamers everywhere already know, BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster game, BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM, hits stores in less than two weeks. G4 ran the first two of three segments showcasing the villains that The Dark Knight will be facing this time around. Watch the videos to catch a glimpse at how characters like Two-Face, Penguin, Solomon Grundy, Talla al Ghul, Riddler, Catwoman, and of course, Joker, will look in the new game. And remember to pick up BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY, available for PS3, XBOX 360 and PC, on October 18th.

“One of the greatest Batman epics I've ever read” - IGN

Everyone’s been talking about Batman recently. Tomorrow marks the release of the final issue of DETECTIVE COMICS prior to the launch of DC Comics-The New 52. The current run by Scott Snyder, Jock, and Francesco Francavilla has been one of the most critically acclaimed runs the title has ever had.

“When all is said and done, this creative team has delivered one of the greatest Batman epics I've ever read,” wrote IGN in their review of tomorrow’s issue #881. In case you missed it, check out what Scott Snyder shared with us yesterday about his experiences on working on the series.

And to wrap up the day, we thought we’d share the exciting news that BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #2 and BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY #3 have officially sold out. Congratulations to all of the creative teams involved in putting these books together.
