COMIC BOOK RESOURCES Catches Up With Bob Harras and Bobbie Chase

In case you missed it, last month COMIC BOOK RESOURCES launched a new regular monthly column where they talk all things DC Entertainment with Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras and Editorial Director Bobbie Chase.

Yesterday, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES ran their second installment of B+B. Here are some of the highlights:

“I think the readers should pay attention to all the Bat books in the next few months, because a lot of things are happening. To say the old cliché, you ain't seen nothing yet! I think what we have coming up is really going to entertain, amaze and shock readers,” Harras teased about the events in the “Batman” family of books following the conclusion of the crossover event, “Death of the Family.”

“Continuing in the pattern the Annuals have in the New 52, where they really spotlight major events [and] major story points in the regular books, they kick off something with their characters,” Chase said of some of the new Annuals hitting shelves this spring. “A lot of the regular writers or writers involved in the projects are working on them.”

Head on over to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES to read the full interview, including the exclusive scoop on exciting new creative teams for BATWING, LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, SUPERBOY, and SUPERGIRL, new Annuals coming out for BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT, CATWOMAN, EARTH 2, RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS, and more!

INTRODUCING DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 "0" MONTH

Timed to the one year anniversary of the launch of the historic DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 initiative, DC Comics will introduce 0 month.

In September 2012, DC Comics will release 0 issues—and we don’t mean we aren’t publishing any titles—but what we will be doing is numbering every DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 title #0.

#0s will be stand-alone stories. “Some issues will tell the origins of a character or a team, or in some case where an origin has already been told, they will fill in the blanks in terms of questions readers may have about the New 52 DC Universe,” said Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief. “Each of these issues promises to reveal something surprising.”

And debuting at #0 are four new comic book series:

TALON - Co-Writers: Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV. Artist: Guillem March.

Meet Calvin Rose, the only Talon to ever escape the grasp of the Court of Owls. This former assassin of the Court is trying to live a normal life ... but that’s impossible when he’s being hunted by his former masters!

SWORD OF SORCERY – Writer: Christy Marx. Artist: Aaron Lopresti.
Featuring the return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother and resents it. She’s about to learn it’s all been necessary when she discovers she’s the lost princess of Gemworld—and she’s being hunted by her murderous aunt. With a back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by Jesus Saiz, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior Beowulf is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.

THE PHANTOM STRANGER - Writer: Dan DiDio. Artist: Brent Anderson.
Spinning out of his recent appearances in JUSTICE LEAGUE and DC’s Free Comic Book Day story, learn more about the true origin of The Phantom Stranger and his connection to the mysterious Pandora.

TEAM SEVEN - Writer: Justin Jordan. Artist: Jesus Merino.
Set in the early days of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, threads of the entire DC Universe collide. As Superman emerges, so does the world’s counter measures against him and his kind. Team 7 is comprised of Dinah Lance, Amanda Waller, Steve Trevor, John Lynch, Alex Fairchild, Cole Cash and Slade Wilson — and their story will change everything you know about DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.

The four new series will follow with issue #1s in October and other series will resume their numbering.

GUEST ARTISTS JOIN BATWOMAN AND DETECTIVE COMICS

Two of the ongoing BATMAN series in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 will be getting notable guest artists for upcoming issues - Trevor McCarthy on BATWOMAN and Ed Benes on DETECTIVE COMICS.

Stepping in for issues 9 through 11, New York Times bestselling artist Trevor McCarthy will be joining co-writers J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman on BATWOMAN. No stranger to the shadows of Gotham City, McCarthy's notable recent work includes BATMAN: GATES OF GOTHAM, by writers Scott Snyder and Kyle Higgins. The critically acclaimed artist of BATWOMAN's first story arc, Williams will be making his return to ongoing illustration duties with issue 12.

And following the "Night of the Owls" Bat-family crossover event in May, guest artist Ed Benes will join DETECTIVE COMICS for issues 10, 11 and 12. Benes is critically acclaimed for his work on DC Comics titles that include ACTION COMICS, BIRDS OF PREY, SUPERGIRL, SUPERMAN and many others. DETECTIVE COMICS' regular writer/artist Tony S. Daniel will continue to provide the scripts for the issues to be illustrated by Benes, and will return to his comprehensive creative duties with issue 13.

"We're excited to be getting such great talent to step in on these books," said Bob Harras, DC Entertainment's Editor-in-Chief. "The work on both titles thus far has been exemplary. Tony Daniel has been going non-stop since the launch of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, and Amy Reeder's contribution to BATWOMAN has been a beautiful transition from J.H.'s first story arc. Both Trevor and Ed are going to have to bring their A-game to maintain those standards."
