Welcome back for another installment of Preview Monday! This week, we’re giving you exclusive first looks at WONDER WOMAN #19 and FABLES #128!

This month, WONDER WOMAN launches an explosive new story arc. “Don’t miss issue #19,” writer Brian Azzarello teased to COMIC VINE about the series a few weeks ago. “I don’t think Superman would approve.” Well when BUZZFEED exclusively debuted the full gatefold cover for WONDER WOMAN #19 depicting Diana and Orion in a passionate liplock, fans began to understand what Azzarello might have been alluding to. Also in WONDER WOMAN #19, Poseidon shares a piece of information with the First Born that puts Zola’s son in immediate danger. But will Wonder Woman and her army be able to protect him when her team is unraveling from the inside out? Find out in WONDER WOMAN #19, in stores on Wednesday, written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Goran Sudzuka, Tony Akins, and Dan Green.

Meanwhile over in Fablestown, “Snow White” continues with its fourth chapter. In FABLES #128, Bigby howls back to Castle Dark for a showdown with Prince Brandish for the hand of his/their wife, Snow White. But unbeknownst to Bigby, any physical harm that he inflicts on Prince Brandish will also be felt by Snow White, who remains locked away in her tower. Will Bigby be able to save his wife before he accidentally kills her? Or will Prince Brandish defeat the mighty wolf? In stores this Wednesday, FABLES #128 is written by Bill Willingham and illustrated by Mark Buckingham, Steve Leialoha, and Andrew Pepoy.

This Just Happened: A Family United

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read WONDER WOMAN #18 and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!)

From the creative team of Eisner Award-winning writer Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS) and artists Cliff Chiang, Goran Sudzuka, Tony Akins, and Dan Green, WONDER WOMAN #18 continues the Amazonian’s latest adventures with an unforgettable supporting cast chocked full of gods and goddesses from classic Greek mythology.

Following the events of the last couple of issues, Wonder Woman and her new ally War have come to Demeter’s Realm to retrieve Zola’s baby. But this is not your average infant. According to fan-favorite character Orion, this is the same baby that is prophesized to begin the end of time. And he’s been sent to kill him/her!

But before Orion can get his hands on the infant and save the universe, Wonder Woman must rescue it from her brother Hermes. And he won’t give up the child without a fight! And while Wonder Woman may have had one of the greatest combat teachers in the world, she is no match for Hermes’ speed.

Just when it seems like Wonder Woman has met her match and her premature demise, someone comes to her rescue: Orion! Together, these unlikely allies defeat Hermes and venture to find Harvest, who is hiding the child. Little do they know: War has already taken the child as his own!

Betrayed by War, Wonder Woman and Orion return to Zola’s apartment to admit their failure and devise a plan for revenge. But when they arrive, there is a surprise waiting for them … Zola’s baby! And it’s a boy!

Will the return of Zola’s son mean even more problems for Wonder Woman? And how will she repay her debt to War for rescuing the child? Place your bets in the comments section below!

Above, take a look at the last page from “The Queen of Roots” as the child is surrounded by his new unconventional family. And don’t forget to pick up your copy of WONDER WOMAN #18, in stores now!

Talking WONDER WOMAN’s New Story Arc with Brian Azzarello

Since its launch in September of 2011, WONDER WOMAN has chronicled the Amazonian’s adventures with an unforgettable supporting cast chocked full of gods and goddesses from classic Greek mythology. If you’ve already picked up your copy of WONDER WOMAN #18 (in stores today), you read the conclusion of the acclaimed series’ current story arc. So with a brand new arc kicking off next month, what’s on deck for Diana and Co. in issue #19?

“We are telling a long-form story here, but this is a good place if you want to jump on,” Eisner Award winning series writer Brian Azzarello told IGN. “We're gonna see some major upheavals in the world that we have created for her. This is a great place to get a front row seat and watch it happen. The character we have been building with the First Born, he will come crashing in.”

“The next story arc is going to be a big one,” Azzarello continued to NEWSARAMA. “We are just getting started with First Born. You can tell something big's going to happen between him and her, right? He is going to have a major, major impact on her family … She [Wonder Woman] hasn't changed enough yet. She's got some more changes. I think the changes have worked really well, but we're not done. It's part of the plan … She's actually leading a team now, which is something that's different for her. But obviously, things around her — the whole mythos — has changed.”

“Don't miss issue #19...I don't think Superman would approve,” the writer teased to COMIC VINE.

For more from Azzarello about the launch of this big and bold new story arc in WONDER WOMAN #19, check out the full interviews that ran with him this morning in IGN, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES, NEWSARAMA, COMIC VINE, and AOL’s COMICS ALLIANCE.

DC Entertainment Announces Two New Series at Emerald City Comic Con

This past weekend, the streets of Seattle were awash with the colors of capes, cowls, tights, and more, as Emerald City Comic Con took over the Washington State Convention Center for three days.

Timed to the convention, DC Entertainment announced the launches of two exciting titles – DC Comics’ new ongoing monthly series, TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA, and Vertigo Comics’ BROTHER LONO, an all-new 8-part miniseries spinning out of the critically acclaimed and New York Times bestselling series, 100 BULLETS!

In stores this spring, TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA will shine a solo spotlight on the elusive character Pandora and begin to unravel the details of why she’s such an integral part of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. Written by Ray Fawkes (CONSTANTINE; JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK) and illustrated by Daniel Sampere (BATGIRL; JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK), this new series will be complimented by THE PHANTOM STRANGER – which will be retitled to TRINITY OF SIN: THE PHANTOM STRANGER when co-writer J.M. DeMatteis takes over full writing duties in June.

“She's spent thousands of years crossing the globe, over and over again, hearing her name cursed for all the evils of the world,” Fawkes exclusively teased to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES about the new series’ mysterious protagonist. “She carries this unfathomable guilt and this searing anger with her -- guilt because she may very well be responsible for all this suffering, and anger because she thinks she never had a chance to avoid unleashing it. She has reason to believe the game was fixed. So she's had all the time in the world to crawl through every kind of shame and pain and remorse you can imagine, and she's come out on the other side of it with a strong, pure sense of purpose. Is that going to lead to more trouble? Yeah, of course it is. But trouble for whom?”

“TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA is an action/horror title,” Fawkes continued. “It's about a blistering quest for vengeance, no-holds barred, with blatant disregard for the costs incurred -- until it breaks, like a bloody wave. Then it's about something else entirely, and I'm not going to give that away just yet.”

Also landing on shelves this spring, BROTHER LONO will reunite the Eisner Award winning creative team of Vertigo Comics’ 100 BULLETS – including writer Brian Azzarello, artist Eduardo Risso, colorist Trish Mulvihill, letterer Clem Robbins and cover artist Dave Johnson.

“It's not a continuation of 100 BULLETS. I wouldn't even call it a sequel. It's dealing with one of the characters that happened to survive. Everyone else in the series [BROTHER LONO] — it will be all new characters. It's just, what's Lono been doing since the end of that series,” Azzarello exclusively revealed to NEWSARAMA, who also debuted the cover for 100 BULLETS: BROTHER LONO #1. “We're not going to learn more about his background. We're going to learn what drives him. He's not a character that looks toward the past. He's always moving forward.”

As for how the creative team feels to be re-entering the world of 100 BULLETS together?

“We're really excited about this. We're happy to be back,” Azzarello told NEWSARAMA. “We wouldn't be doing it if we didn't have a story to tell. So luckily, we had one.”

Look for TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA and BROTHER LONO in stores this June. And keep checking back to THE SOURCE and GRAPHIC CONTENT for more about the launches of these two new series in the coming weeks!

12 "Holy Smoke!" Moments in Comics from 2012, Part 2

Over the past few weeks, “Best of” lists dominated the Interwebs—ranging from music to television to, of course, comic books. We even made a blog post linking a few of them that featured some of the great DC titles from THE NEW 52, Vertigo, and more.

Yesterday, we posted the first half of our own list celebrating the awesomeness of DC Comics in 2012 with the 12 "Holy Smoke!" Moments in Comics from 2012—six moments that had us screaming in excitement and surprise and that pumped us full of unbridled fan-thusiasm. It’s like regular enthusiasm covered with a healthy dose of fantasticness!

Today, we finish up our list with the final six "Holy Smoke!" Moments in Comics from 2012!

Aquaman’s Gonna Need a Bigger Boat

For anyone who doesn’t like venturing into the ocean, this moment is probably one of your biggest fears. You’re swimming along—an act of which the sole purpose is to make sure you don’t die—when all of a sudden you look behind you and you see rows of giant white gleaming fangs. This is exactly the situation a young Arthur Curry found himself in while diving into the deep in AQUAMAN #0. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, indeed.

Penguins Can't Fly
From the first image released of Alfred of BATMAN: EARTH ONE fans knew one thing for sure: this it not the Alfred we’re used to seeing. Needless to say, Alfred proved how much of a badass he was throughout the entirety of the Geoff Johns-penned OGN. But without a doubt, the ultimate "Holy smoke!" moment came during the book’s climax when Alfred blew the Penguin out the window with a shotgun. Jaw-dropping and insanely awesome.

Superman Goes Home
SUPERMAN #0 presented an interesting tale stunning illustrated by Kenneth Rocafort that explored the lives of Jor-El and Lara as the pair discovered not only that Lara was pregnant with the would-be Man of Steel, but that Krypton was doomed. However, the real twist came at the end, when we observed Superman on the planet during this time. How he got there and what it means is still yet to be seen, but he was wearing a costume similar to the one in the promo image for Andy Diggle and Tony Daniel's upcoming run on Action Comics.

Gods, Old and New
This was a bit of a tough one. With a single splash page, Brian Azzarello capped off his first year on Wonder Woman with a literal "BOOM," one that sent fans into a frenzy of delight and excitement. It seemed impossible for him to top it, but with the very next issue—WONDER WOMAN #0—he did it through sheer ingenuity. Not only did Azzarello present a wonderfully engaging flashback story beautifully illustrated by Cliff Chiang, but he also told it in a very clever way through Golden Age-style narration.

The One Who Knocks
We’ve been anxiously anticipating the Joker’s return to Gotham ever seen he disappeared at the end of DETECTIVE COMICS #1. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo sent chills down our collective spines in BATMAN #13 and made sure to keep the Joker in the shadows until the climatic final scene. The issue ended with the Joker revealed in all his gory glory... while attacking Alfred at Wayne Manor. It was a moment that immediately set the stage and raised the stakes for this Batman epic.

Trinity War
The DC COMICS—THE NEW 52 FREE COMIC BOOK DAY special answered some questions and asked one really, really big one (with a really, really big gatefold illustration): what is the Trinity War?

NPR Names WONDER WOMAN, VOL. 1: BLOOD on their List of "Graphic Novels That Flew Under The Radar in 2012"

Yesterday, we told you about how AQUAMAN, BATGIRL, and SWEET TOOTH were all spotlighted in THE NEW YORK TIMES’ Graphic Novel Holiday Gift Guide for 2012.

Well, as the year continues to wind down, we’re pleased to announce that another DCE title has made an additional best-of-2012 list. This morning, NPR published their list of “Graphic Novels That Flew Under The Radar in 2012,” and making the list was WONDER WOMAN, VOL. 1: BLOOD by Brian Azzarello, Cliff Chiang, and Tony Akins.

According to NPR, WONDER WOMAN is “easily the best series to emerge from DC's recent New 52 initiative … Azzarello breathes dark new life into Wonder Woman's world of petty, spiteful and manipulative Greek gods, and in the process transforms her from superhero to Classical hero. He is aided in this endeavor by artist Cliff Chiang, who has infused the book with a decidedly creepy note of Jungian horror, using bold, thick linework to depict a world of myth that's not remotely fantastical, but instead grimly, disquietingly real.”

Click here to check out NPR’s full list of “Graphic Novels That Flew Under The Radar in 2012.” Congratulations to all!
