BLACKEST NIGHT IS OVER...WHAT IS BRIGHTEST DAY?

By Geoff Johns

BLN_8_DblGate.qxp

How about that gatefold spread?

So you probably understand why we couldn't exactly talk about BRIGHTEST DAY in great detail until now, right? Before I get into BRIGHTEST DAY, I wanted to say thank you from all of us from me, Ivan Reis, Eddie Berganza and everyone else who worked on this series and the stories around it. Thank you for your trust and time. BLACKEST NIGHT was a labor of love by all involved and I couldn't be prouder of the work we did.

But how about that gatefold spread?

Aw yeah Ivan Reis!

Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Firestorm, Maxwell Lord, Captain Boomerang, Jade, the Reverse-Flash, Hawk, Osiris and... Deadman?

Twelve heroes and villains were resurrected by the white light.  Some will call it a miracle and others a sign of the apocalypse, and though the exact reasons for their rebirths is a mystery, it won't be for long.

They're back for a reason.

Although they all have their own journeys ahead, they are connected by something and their exact mission will unfold throughout BRIGHTEST DAY.  But while the truth behind their return and their ultimate destination lies within the BRIGHTEST DAY series itself and GREEN LANTERN, there are other books where you can follow these recently returned heroes to find out what life has in store for them and what they have in store for life.

brightestday_haindd

In BRIGHTEST DAY, the whole cast will be seen with Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Firestorm and Deadman taking the lead as the truth behind their resurrections is discovered.

bd_glglc_ha

In GREEN LANTERN, the mysterious White Lantern will be the object of everyone's desires.

bd_the_flash_ha

In THE FLASH, Captain Boomerang will deal with a bizarre change he believes is left over from the black ring that animated his corpse.  And the Reverse-Flash won't be gone for long... but he'll appear somewhere else first.

bd_justleague_ha

In JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST, Maxwell Lord the most wanted man in America is hunted by the former members of Justice League International; Booster Gold, Fire, Ice and Captain Atom.  Why not the Justice League of America?  Max is tricky...

In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, the exact nature of Jade's powers and their connection to the mythology of the Green Lantern Corps is unveiled.

bd_bop_ha

In BIRDS OF PREY, Hawk will have to be balanced out by Dove..and Dove's connection to the white light will be revealed in BRIGHTEST DAY.

bd_titans_ha

In TITANS, Osiris will be seen as a way to Black Adam and vice versa.

And finally, in GREEN ARROW #1... well... I've said enough.  Let's let the pictures doing the talking.

It's a new dawn, but what tomorrow is like no one can say for sure.  Except maybe Deadman... who is ironically the key to it all.

Some second chances work out and some don't.

See you in a few weeks!

Geoff

The TITANS ongoing series returns with a new direction that ties into BRIGHTEST DAY! Good luck, Lex Luthor!

After the Fall, GREEN ARROW rises again

gav2_cv1

As THE RISE AND FALL continues to rage, we're getting a glimpse of how things will shake down amidst the rubble and tragedy surrounding Star City.

Oliver Queen has been branded a murderer by his friends. Roy Harper is facing a shattered and twisted reflection of his past life. The Brightest Day looms -- but what does it mean?

Some of those questions will be answered in the coming months, and a few more will be answered in June, with the debut of a new, ongoing series: GREEN ARROW.

From writer J.T. Krul and artist Diogenes Neves, the team that brought you the turning point GREEN ARROW #30, comes a tale of redemption and rebirth -- but for whom? After "The Fall of Green Arrow" how can Ollie Queen effectively carry the heavy bow of the Emerald Archer? And what mysteries await in the shadows of what's left of Star City?

We got on the line with writer J.T. Krul for some hints, but there wasn't a lot to say, which just made us all the more curious. Take it away, J.T.:

"This is it!  We've been saying for awhile now that 2010 was going to be big for Green Arrow, and you can't get much bigger than this.  As we put together the story for the Fall of Green Arrow and developed where he was going to end up and what Ollie's life was going to be like, we knew it was truly a new beginning.  A BRIGHTEST DAY beginning at that!

In the wake of the turmoil in Star City, the people need someone in their corner more now than ever.  Most of those in power, be it business or government, are looking for ways to exploit the situation to their advantage. The city is rife with crime and corruption of epic proportions and it's only getting worse.  But all is not lost.  Oliver Queen's got his quiver. Now, it's time for Green Arrow to move into the role he was always meant to be - outlaw for the people.

For this relaunch, Eddie and Adam and the guys at DC have put together the best team possible to make Ollie shine like never before. Diogenes Neves and Vicente Cifuentes killed on the Black Lantern Green Arrow special and we knew they were the guys to relaunch the Emerald Archer.  And don't even get me started on the cover work by Mauro Casciolli.  I'm so happy to finally share it with the rest of the world - because it's been my screen saver ever since I saw it.  Now THAT'S Green Arrow!!!"

And we probably won't get much more info than that, but until then, we've got a lovely piece of Mauro Cascioli cover art to keep us on our toes right above this text.

Add another Lantern ring to your collection

Have you all read BLACKEST NIGHT #7? I'd hope so. If not, step away from your computers and sit down with a copy. I don't mind waiting.

Back? Ok, great. How awesome was that last page? Take a moment to collect your thoughts, because we've got a nice bit of news to go with that amazing double-page spread.

Ready?

With BLACKEST NIGHT #7 on sale today, we're happy to announce a new, White Lantern promotional ring, tying into retailer orders for BRIGHTEST DAY #1. Want one to complete your set? Then make sure to mention this to your local retailer:

For every 25 copies of BRIGHTEST DAY #1 ordered by 4/15, retailers can order one bag of 50 White Lantern rings, at $8 a bag.

Cool? Well, that's not all. In addition to the promotional rings, our friends at DC DIRECT have made no secret of their plans for a BLACKEST NIGHT POWER RING SPECTRUM SET, featuring every Lantern ring with light-up capability. And because we're aware it's not the full spectrum without all the ring colors, the White Lantern ring will be included at no extra cost.

Like the other wearable rings in the set (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet and black), the white ring instantly lights up with a long-lasting LED bulb when you slip the ring on your finger -- depending on your mood, of course. You can also turn the rings off, but why would you?

And because we're all about visuals here, take a look at both the White Lantern promotional ring and the DC DIRECT SPECTRUM SET, below.
