Fighting Hunger in the Horn of Africa

Chris Daughtry has teamed up with the Justice League and DC Entertainment to release the newly recorded acoustic rendition of the band’s original song “Rescue Me” to benefit the WE CAN BE HEROES campaign to end hunger in the Horn of Africa.  On sale today and available exclusively on iTunes, all net proceeds from “Rescue Me” go directly to provide relief in the region.

“You don’t need to be a super hero to help make a difference and be part of the greater good,” said lead singer Chris Daughtry.  “The people in the Horn of Africa need us and every little bit helps, it’s as easy as downloading a song.  If you’ve ever wanted to be super hero – now’s your chance.”

“Rescue Me,” from Daughtry’s 19 Recordings/RCA Records gold-certified release Break The Spell, debuted today exclusively on iTunes with all net proceeds from this new release being donated to the campaign. This debut follows on the heels of the DC Entertainment announcement that musician Chris Daughtry will act as an ambassador for the campaign and he has been performing the song nightly during his global summer concert tour.

“The mission of WE CAN BE HEROES is to raise awareness for and support of the over eight million people in need of immediate assistance in the Horn of Africa,” said Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. “Daughtry’s iTunes release of this new version of ‘Rescue Me’ will provide support and donations for three incredible humanitarian aid organizations that are helping fight this hunger crisis in the Horn.  We are so thankful that Chris has joined us in this important cause.”

Last month live onstage to at his Los Angeles concert, Daughtry announced to a cheering crowd of thousands that he had teamed up with DC Entertainment to become an ambassador for the WE CAN BE HEROES giving campaign (www.WeCanBeHeroes.org) designed to raise awareness and funds to fight the worst hunger crisis in 60 years in the Horn of Africa. The new version of “Rescue Me” was recorded in Los Angeles last month and Daughtry has incorporated this version of the popular song into performances along their U.S. summer Break the Spell tour, bringing the important message of WE CAN BE HEROES to thousands of fans throughout the country.
