Survival Tip #3: Money, Money, Mooooney... MONNNEY!

There is a lot of really, really cool swag at conventions. From toys to statues to comic books and graphic novels to replica weapons like the Sword of Omens (we have seen this and it is awesome!). Shopping at conventions can be a lot of fun, but what's not as fun is only having a credit card handy, running out of cash, or waiting in lines at the ATM.

Different vendors accept different types of payment methods. Some accept only credit cards, some accept only cash, and a few accept both. Therefore, it’s a good plan to carry both on you. When it comes to cash, make sure you have enough. There's a lot to buy, and if you run out, you could find yourself waiting in line for a long time to use an ATM—and you'll then get charged a withdrawal fee! Of about a thousand dollars! (Well, not really, but expect the ATM fees on the convention center ATMs to be on the high side.) And that’s to say nothing about the fact that sometimes those ATMs run out of cash.

This is one time where being prepared will save you both time and money!

Hey, you know what’s also really cost effective? Our exclusive Con Away From Con coverage here on DCComics.com! Starting tomorrow, look for exclusive updates, including videos, panel recaps (which feature jpegs of any art that’s shown in the panel) and more. They’ll be coming at you all weekend long here on DC website, and on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Even if you’re missing out on NYCC this year, we’re making sure you don’t miss out on the excitement.

NYCC Survival Tip #2: Careful Cosplaying

By "careful cosplaying" we don't mean watching out for other cosplayers dressed as your archenemy that you'll then have to do battle with (although totally be aware of that—you will have to fight your archenemy). What we mean is that while razzling and dazzling the crowd at the con with your kickass costume, keep note of these few things:

First, if your costume is rather elaborate with expansive pieces, keep an eye out when maneuvering through crowds (and expect crowds at NYCC—crazy ones!). You don't want your costume getting squished or broken, and you don’t want the wings of your wicked Hawkgirl getup whacking your fellow con-goers in their faces. Not unless you want to have to prove your prowess as a Thanagarian warrior. Second, while posing for photos is part of the cosplay experience, realize that there’s a time and place for it. Posing in the middle of a crowded aisle can stop traffic and anger people, and even get the fire marshal involved. Lastly, with so many people in the convention area, things can get a little hot. If you're wearing a heavy or full-body costume, make sure to keep yourself hydrated or that you're able to take off the headpiece to breathe a little.

But above all, have fun! We love our fans and are always excited to see the effort you guys put into your costumes, so swing by the DC Booth, ESPECIALLY if you’re cosplaying as a DC villain. In celebration of Villains Month, we’ll be putting together a special video on villainous cosplayers, so if you’re dressing up as one of the bad boys or girls of the DCU, be sure to swing on by. You may be featured in one of our Con Away From Con videos!

Where can you find those videos featuring exclusive content, creator interviews and more? You'll be able to find them all right here on DCComics.com! Keep an eye on our website, Twitter and Facebook pages for all your Con Away from Con coverage!

NYCC Survival Tip #1: Plan Ahead

Sometimes it's a lot of fun to fly by the seat of your pants. We certainly understand the temptation of wanting to jump into the deep end of New York Comic Con and go with the flow. But trust us, when it comes to NYCC, it's important to know exactly how deep that end can get.

The convention floor spans quite a large amount of space, and while you think you may know how long it takes to get from one end to the next, it's important to remember that crowd density, random things that catch your eye, and spontaneous lightsaber battles can break out at any moment and add quite a bit of travel time. And then there are the panel rooms…

If this is your first visit to the Javitz Center, know this—the panel rooms can be very hard to find. Confoundingly hard. We’re talking Alice going through the rabbit hole and finding herself in a strange new world hard. The last thing you want to be doing during a panel you’re excited about is searching for the room they’re holding it in, so plan ahead.

In fact, plan your entire day out beforehand. Map out what artists you want to visit in Artist Alley, take note of when your favorite creators are signing, and if you're there with friends, have a designated meet-up spot in case you get separated. By investing a little more time up front, you'll be giving yourself a lot more time at the show to enjoy everything NYCC has to offer!

And if you want to see anything you might've missed, plan on checking out DCComics.com, and the DC Comics Twitter and Facebook pages for all of our exclusive Con Away from Con coverage!
