JIM LEE ON THE COVER OF JUSTICE LEAGUE #6

Out next week, JUSTICE LEAGUE #6concludes the historic first arc of the flagship series, uniting the World’s Greatest Super Heroes for the very first time. Written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Jim Lee, the issue pits the team against Darkseid in a battle that will have lasting consequences for the heroes and the series. “I wanted to create a cover which resonated with what I consider to be the most classic Darkseid story - namely the Great Darkness Saga - so that entailed the Justice League bowing down naturally to the power of Darkseid,” said Lee. “Except of course Batman who, despite not having powers, fights with all his strength in defiance.” Check out the cover to JUSTICE LEAGUE #6 here.

It's the End of the World!!!

Again.

In other words, Happy New Year 2012! This is the year that when December 21 hits, keeping any resolutions won't matter because it all goes apocalyptic!

So what's our mood here at DC? To paraphrase our pal Alfred E. Neuman from MAD, "What, us worried?"

Hardly. Doomsdays are what makes for great stories, and even a cool character here at DC! This just gives us fodder for story material.

So as we start our 5th issues, the end is penultimately near on JL's first arc with Mr. Apokolips himself: Darkseid! Catastrophe strikes in STORMWATCH, and Superman and Grifter will be picking up the pieces in their respective books.

And the coming months look no better for our heroes as the Court of Owls reaches out with their Talons, bringing an end of days to the Batman family. There's a bitter cold end for the Flash when Captain Cold hits Central City. What does it mean to the future when the Teen Titans and Legion Lost meet, or when O.M.A.C. comes to JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL? What happens when the first vampire rises? Will JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK and I, VAMPIRE fall? Is there any hope as the all-consuming Rot moves across ANIMAL MAN and SWAMP THING?

Yup, like I said, the end is only the beginning. This is going to be a great year for DC Comics! Enjoy the Cataclysm, everyone. We are happy to bring it to you!

From the Editor's Desk: INTRODUCING ... DARKSEID DESIGN BY JIM LEE!

Of all the villains being reintroduced within DC – THE NEW 52, none have been anticipated more than this one. He has not appeared inside a DC comic since early 2009 — DARKSEID!

Superstar artist and DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee brings his razor sharp design skills to the greatest villain in the DC pantheon. Originally conceived and designed by Jack Kirby, the King of Comics himself, Darkseid’s redesign has the Kirby motif all over him. Jim has taken what made Darkseid a fearsome foe from his original incarnation and provided the big bad with a 21st century design flair for even more malevolence.

Now that you’re all jumping out of your chairs over this, fret not, you’ll be able to see this design in action soon enough! In JUSTICE LEAGUE #4 in fact, on sale December 21. And, get this, this shot of Darkseid isn’t even the BEST SHOT of him in that issue!

You’ll just have to see it to believe it.

Get a double dose of Lex Luthor in ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #13

While present-day Lex Luthor is busy fighting an array of the DCU's most vile foes over in ACTION COMICS, this year's ACTION COMICS ANNUAL takes a look back at two formative encounters Luthor had before he became the bald mad genius we know and love today.

Paul Cornell gives us two great stories in this double-sized volume. In the first, Marco Rudy illustrates a story of young Lex and Darkseid, while in the second we've got Ed Benes tackling a tale starring Luthor and Batman villain Ra's al Ghul.

ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #13 hits stores on December 2nd.
