DC Nation on the road with Sattler part 2

Way to go Long Beach! I just got back up to LA from the first Long Beach Comic Con and I had a blast. The show was great, the fans were great, the guest list was great and the weather was great.

Of course you've heard the big news out of the show was Dan DiDio and Philip Tan on Outsiders and Geoff Johns and Scott Kollins on the Wally West cofeature in The Flash. The DC Nation panel was full of all kinds of awesome as I was joined by Geoff, Philip, Pete Tomasi, JT Krul, Sterling Gates and Mr. Bob Wayne. We talked about the popularity of Red Lantern cats, our favorite superhero movies and the many ways we could kill Lady Blackhawk. The Long Beach fans were excellent and I look forward to coming back next year.

The only thing that went wrong at the show was that I forgot to take pictures of the panel. This daily blogging thing is new to me and I got distracted when they gave me a cordless microphone to run around the room with. I tried to make up for it with these pictures of Philip and Dustin Nguyen at their tables. I'll try and do better this week.

See you tomorrow,

Ian Sattler, Senior Story Editor DCU

Take a look at Dustin Nguyen’s SUPERMAN: WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON #10 cover

STREETS OF GOTHAM artist Dustin Nguyen gets downright pastoral on the variant cover to SUPERMAN: WORLD OF NEW KRYPTON #10, from writers James Robinson and Greg Rucka with artist Pete Woods. Nothing I write here can really do it much justice, beyond saying it’s a fine piece of work. So why not scroll down and see for yourself?

BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUALs unveil Lil' Gotham

littlegotham_detective_annual_page2_pre

While the main story of both the BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS annuals deal with Azrael and his growing role in the Bat-universe, each book contains a "little" treat. Pun intended. Writer Derek Fridolfs teams with co-writer and regular artistic collaborator Dustin Nguyen for two two-page shorts spotlighting "Lil' Gotham." It's all your favorite Gotham City heroes and villains dropped in size and amped up in cuteness. How can you resist? Dustin was kind enough to send over a few panels this morning to Bat Editor Mike Marts and his able assistant Janelle Siegel. Lo and behold, we have them up here for you to fawn over.

BATMAN ANNUAL #27 features a race through the winding streets of Gotham titled "Off Rogue Racing," while DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11 is simply titled "Question & Answer." What more is there to say? Not too much, since we don't want to spoil the fun. But we did manage to get a few words from Mr. Marts. Take it away, Mike:

“The usual STREETS OF GOTHAM art tandem of Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs switch gears to deliver two separate “Lil Gotham” chapters. Humor for all ages and adorable art – how can you say no?”

BATMAN ANNUAL #27 hits 10/7.

DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11 hits 10/14.

Zsasz returns in the pages of STREETS OF GOTHAM #4

Writer Paul Dini and artist Dustin Nguyen continue to tell tales stories from Batman's city in the latest issue of BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM. And with Batman's recent "Bruce Wayne" issues somewhat contained, Gotham's new Dark Knight must now deal with someone far more frightening -- the frightening psycopath Victor Zsasz.

Meanwhile, in writer Marc Andreyko and artist Jeremy Haun's MANHUNTER co-feature, Kate faces off with Jane Doe, as she tries to determine why the villain offed the last DA. Will Jane flip on her boss the Black Mask? We're not telling. But the pages below might have some clues for you.

BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM #4 hits 9/16.

Time to talk some Batman at San Diego

The Battle for the Cowl is over – what’s next?

That’s the big question that will be answered in a few short minutes during the San Diego Comic Con “Batman: New Dynamic” panel, as Batman Group Editor Michael Marts rounds up a band of creators, including writers Paul Dini, Greg Rucka and artist Dustin Nguyen, to discuss what the future holds for the new Caped Crusader.

And since we’re a little early for the panel ourselves, what questions do you, Source readers, have about the Bat-verse? What’s gotten your attention? What titles have you added to your pull list?

And if you’re not out here in San Diego, fret not. We’ve got some Bat-art for you to check out. The Source: We bring the con to you.

Time for a few pages from BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM #2

In the second issue of writer Paul Dini and artist Dustin Nguyen's new ongoing Batman series, Commissioner Gordon must team up with the new Caped Crusader to battle the Firefly's deadly new methods. And, since one villain is never enough, the baddie known as Abuse starts making some noise in the streets of Gotham. Get it?

Here's a look at the main feature, but don't forget each issue of STREETS also sports a MANHUNTER co-feature, from writer Marc Andreyko and artist Georges Jeanty, chronicling Kate Spencer's adventures in Batman's city.

BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM #2 hits tomorrow.

Some MANHUNTER art to close out Monday

You've all read STREETS OF GOTHAM #1, right? As previously discussed, every issue will feature a MANHUNTER co-feature, from writer Marc Andreyko and artist Georges Jeanty, continuing the adventures of Kate Spencer as she learns the twists and turns that come with a Gotham City residence. And since today seems to be all about keeping people happy between issues, we've got some inks and finished pages from Mr. Jeanty and inker Karl Story for you.

Some notes from the Bat-office

Hello there, Bat Nation! As BATMAN REBORN kicks into high gear, I just wanted to send a quick note to you all--a friendly reminder--to run (don’t walk!) to your local comic shop this coming Wednesday for two spectacular debuts!

First up we have DETECTIVE COMICS STARRING BATWOMAN. Writer Greg Rucka and artist JH Williams III have been pouring their hearts and souls into this comic over the past several months--from the very first page you’ll see what we mean.  You won’t want to miss this first adventure, which unveils a new villain for Batwoman to face.

And if one story isn’t enough for you, fret not--we have not one, but (count ‘em!) TWO stories in DETECTIVE COMICS each month. Following the lead feature is THE QUESTION, written by the very busy Greg Rucka and illustrated by Cully Hamner. Renee Montoya and her inquisitive alter ego take center stage each month in this second feature.

Next up we have the series debut of GOTHAM CITY SIRENS, featuring Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn! This new series is written by a guy named Paul Dini--perhaps you’ve read his work in DETECTIVE or BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM. And this series is beautifully illustrated by Guillem March, whose work you may have seen in GOTHAM GAZETTE, or in last year’s BATMAN/DETECTIVE “Last Days of Gotham” two-part crossover.

And this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg…Phase Two of BATMAN REBORN kicks in later this year, with the return of two long-time favorites--the all-new BATGIRL series in August, and the all-new AZRAEL series in October!

Thanks for reading!
