This Just Happened: The Green Lantern Corps Loses A Member

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 yet and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!).

From the creative team of writer Peter J. Tomasi, and artists Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna, GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 serves as the next chapter of the monumental “Rise of the Third Army” crossover event that is currently spanning all of the Lantern titles.

In “Nothing Man,” Guy Gardner and his team are forced to confront the Third Army, who have just been unleashed onto the Corps. As an epic battle commences, they discover that this hostile alien threat is practically immune to anything they can construct from their power rings. The Green Lanterns fight valiantly but all fall in battle … except Guy Gardner.

Faced with the consequences of his choices, Gardner retreats back to Oa and is asked to report to the Planetary Citadel to meet with the Guardians. There, the Guardians tell him he has brought shame to the Corps by disobeying direct orders and leaving his teammates to be brutally murdered and/or recruited to the Third Army. As punishment, Gardner is informed that he has only one choice left: to resign from the Corps.

Defeated, Gardner swallows his pride and hands over his Lantern ring. Thus, he is stripped of his power and is banished from Oa. But what does his resignation mean for the rest of the Green Lantern Corps? With members dropping like flies, will they be able to defeat the Third Army? Or have these elusive villains already had their first taste of victory by breaking the Corps apart? Place your bets in the comments section and learn more as “Rise of the Third Army” continues in next week’s GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #14.

Below, take a look at the final page from “Nothing Man” as Guy Gardner is sent back to Earth, powerless and alone. And don’t forget to pick up your copy of GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14, in stores now!
