FLASHPOINT FRIDAY: “What would Hal Jordan be like if he never became a Green Lantern?” – Adam Schlagman

flashpoint-logo_whiteHal Jordan is known for a lot of things – reckless behavior, a flagrant disregard for authority, and a flair for the wild side to name a few. But with Abin Sur being very much alive in the FLASHPOINT universe, what does this mean for Hal? Can he still move beyond his brash behavior and step up to the role of the hero without being chosen by a ring? In FLASHPOINT: HAL JORDAN #1, Hal is put to the test.

“What would Hal Jordan be like if he never became a Green Lantern?” writer Adam Schlagman asks. “Would he finally be in a committed relationship with Carol Ferris or remain his irresponsible self? In this world on the verge of apocalyptic war, can one reckless test pilot finally accept responsibility and defeat agents from Atlantis, Invisible Planes, and a Hydra? And is he capable of the sacrifice required to drop the Green Arrow bomb?”

FLASHPOINT: HAL JORDAN #1 features art by Ben Oliver and a cover by Rags Morales and Gabe Eltaeb. Head over to IGN to view exclusive preview pages and read the book when it hits stands next week.

FLASHPOINT FRIDAY: “As readers we want Superman to be Superman – noble, solid, heroic. What happens when the world conspires to thwart that?” – Lowell Francis

flashpoint-logo_whiteNeil Sinclair was just the average soldier until he volunteered to become the military’s first line of defense against alien and monster threats as part of Project Superman. Alien DNA was grafted onto his own, transforming Neil into “Subject Zero”, giving him an entire arsenal of powers. But as his abilities continued to expand and his strength grew, Neil began to lose control. Too powerful to be controlled, he was locked away, until one fateful day in Metropolis during a meteor shower...

“The FLASHPOINT event is about good intentions gone wildly out of control. And that's true of our story in PROJECT SUPERMAN too. A few people came in thinking they could control events, but learned there was no steering wheel. It's been a wildly creative book and a completely new look at Superman. I'm glad I got to work with Scott and Lowell on this and seeing the story unwind and change, it's definitely not the book we expected going in,” artist Gene Ha told us.

“I love alternate history stories,” said plot co-creator and script writer Lowell Francis. “Hite's Law states that "All alternate histories produce zeppelins," so we have those in the background in a couple of spots. In thinking about this, I went back to reread everything I could by Howard Waldrop, the master of these kinds of tales. Ultimately, in talking with Scott, I saw how we could give insight into a slice of the FLASHPOINT history and really explore some characters. I think as readers we want Superman to be Superman - noble, solid, heroic. What happens when the world conspires to thwart that?”

FLASHPOINT: PROJECT SUPERMAN #1 comes from the creative team of Scott Snyder, Lowell Francis, Gene Ha and Art Lyon, and arrives in stores on Wednesday. To view exclusive preview pages, head over to NEWSARAMA.
