A few teases for the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents fans

thunder-a_cv5

I know I'm far from the only T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents  fan here. I've been tipped off to a few of the guest artists who'll be  contributing to upcoming issues, and they're just too cool not to share.  (Just check out the Francis Manapul cover for issue five above!) I'll let you hear the news straight from T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents editor, Wil Moss:

"Nick Spencer & CAFU have wowed everybody with the first two issues of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS so far, but trust me, they’re just getting warmed up! And continuing the string of all-star guest artists who have been providing covers and flashback sequences for the book so far, March’s T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS #5 has a gorgeous Francis Manapul cover and a sublime five-page sequence by Ryan Sook! And in April, the great John Cassaday tackles the cover to #6, then starting in June with #7 the supremely talented Fiona Staples takes over as regular cover artist! And man, just wait until you see what Nick & CAFU have planned for the arc that starts with #7 ... As Toby would say, “Excited!”"

On a related note, Nick Spencer will be stepping off Supergirl to concentrate on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, with writer James Peaty co-scripting issue #60 and then taking over for him from there. (Bernard Chang will stay on as artist for the book.) Here's what Supergirl editor Matt Idelson had to say about James Peaty:

"When I was deciding who should write this Supergirl arc, I knew I needed someone who could not just write a good story, but bring their  own unique vision to an in progress story. I've worked on and off with James  Peaty over the years and had been looking for the chance to do so again. James is no stranger to the DCU, having written adventures for Green Arrow, the Justice League, the JSA, Batman, and Supergirl."

Source Open Thread: Who's your Captain?

A hero is often defined by his or her  villains. And few heroes have villains as cool and colorful and flat out weird as the Flash.

The Rogues define the Flash and he  defines  them: Mirror Master, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, the Trickster and most especially the two Captains Captain  Cold and  Captain Boomerang.

In FLASH 7, the  spotlight falls on Captain Boomerang. How did Boomererang first fall in with the Rogues? Why has he returned from the dead? And does he still have  what it takes to be a Rogue?

You'll find out the answers to  at least two  of those questions on Wednesday. In the meantime, FLASH fans, we'll leave you with a question or two of of our  own -- who's  your favorite Rogue? Digger? Or Cold? Or somebody else altogether?

[gallery link="file" columns="2"]

Will the Court of Temporal Justice rule against THE FLASH?

Barry Allen is bound and brought before the Court of Temporal Justice for a crime he didn’t know he could commit – but is he guilty, or has one of the Renegades from the distant future gone rogue?

Writer Geoff Johns and artist Francis Manapul close out their first storyline on THE FLASH in spectacular style, and lift the curtain on a clue that will have fans talking for months. Do you wanna go faster? The ride’s about to kick into overdrive.

THE FLASH #6 hits today.

The characters take center stage in January

This coming January, you’ll notice something unique about the cover treatments for DCU titles hitting that month.

Here, let me show you a few.

But it’s not just about iconic poses. As you can see, each title gets a unique and yet familiar logo treatment that brings the focus on the characters and stars of their respective books. New year. New beginnings. New focus.

This January will see a handful of one-shots spotlighting some of the key players in the DCU by an A-list assortment of creators, including James Robinson, Eric Wallace, J.T. Krul and more. Here’s the breakdown:

In this tie-in to the “JLA Omega” storyline, the new blue and gold team of Congorilla and Mikaal Tomas work to unlock the secrets behind the toxic Omega Man’s dark energy, which encases Washington D.C. To do this they must embark on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth, encountering diverse heroes from the DCU along the way including Animal Man, Sirocco and a certain wonder dog named Rex. And all the while, Mikaal and Congorilla must outrun and outwit a cadre of terrorist assassins from Gorilla City. This is a breakneck chase through the DCU, but with a serious end-goal – saving the lives of their fellow members of the JLA!

We checked in with Co-Publisher Dan DiDio for his thoughts on the January theme. Take it away Dan:

“This January, we’re putting the focus squarely on the characters and iconic heroes of the DCU,” said DCU Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “Not only will we tell new stories some of the more-deserving with special one-shots, but we’ll be giving every title in the line a unique treatment that puts the spotlight on the heroes and villains that populate the DC Universe.”

NYCC 2010: Meet your new SUPERGIRL creative team

Hey, it’s New York Comicon. Did you expect a quiet few days?

First off, I’d like to give a huge tip of the hat to writer Sterling Gates and artist Jamal Igle. As many fans have said across the web, they’ve done a masterful job with SUPERGIRL and you can be sure their names will be popping up on the credits of many books to come. But more on that later.

Who’s taking over the reins of SUPERGIRL?

Starting in January, writer Nick Spencer (T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS and the JIMMY OLSEN co-feature in ACTION COMICS) will hop into the driver’s seat with artist Bernard Chang (SUPERMAN). As some of you faithful Source readers have noticed, Nick’s quickly risen up the ranks and become one of our busiest and most engaging creators. His knack for getting to the heart of the character – whether it’s the newly-introduced Chloe Sullivan (yeah, from “Smallville”!), Jimmy or the myriad heroes and characters that will populate T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS – and well-paced action are a classic recipe for success with a modern twist. Seriously. His stuff’s a treat.

sg57_02

You saw the SUPERGIRL #57 art we teased not long ago, right? Bernard’s got a knack for drawing Kryptonians, and has put together an impressive resume of late involving a number of key issues in the SUPERMAN family. So, Supergirl’s going to continue to look stellar, you can bank on it.

Let’s ping SUPERGIRL Assistant Editor Wil Moss for more, shall we?

“How do you follow a character-defining run like Sterling and Jamal had on SUPERGIRL? Beats me – that’s Nick and Bernard’s problem! But if anyone can do it, it’s these two guys. Get ready for a deadly new version of an old threat (one with ties to Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul’s run on ADVENTURE COMICS), and a laundry list of guest stars – the promo piece doesn’t even show half of ‘em! So while Supergirl the character has never been in more trouble, rest assured that SUPERGIRL the title has never been stronger!”
