ACTION COMICS VOL. 1 Sketchbook: Day One

This week sees the publication of ACTION COMICS VOLUME 1: SUPERMAN AND THE MEN OF STEEL. Written by the incomparable Grant Morrison (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN) and drawn by the sensational Rags Morales (IDENTITY CRISIS), this hardcover book is the premiere collection of the acclaimed series that launched with DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. This updated Superman has been re-imagined as a more vulnerable and relatable hero. Young, naïve, and with incredible powers he’s only begun to explore, Superman is waiting to be discovered by a whole new generation.        

 

Collecting issues #1-8, ACTION COMICS VOL. 1: SUPERMAN AND THE MEN OF STEEL lands in comic book stores on August 1st and in bookstores everywhere on August 7th. DC Entertainment attends The Dark Knight Rises Premiere in NYC

Tonight, DC Entertainment President, Diane Nelson was escorted by New York Times bestselling writer Neil Gaiman to The Dark Knight Rises premiere in New York City. Gaiman will be returning to the world of The Sandman with a new mini-series to be published by Vertigo in 2013.

 

 

And life long Batman fan and DC Entertainment's We Can Be Heroes ambassador, Chris Daughtry, was also in attendance.

 

 

Chris Daughtry later met up with BATMAN, INCORPORATED writer Grant Morrison and his wife Kristan.

Preview Mondays: ACTION COMICS #9 and SWEET TOOTH #33

For this week’s installment of Preview Mondays, we’re giving you exclusive first looks at ACTION COMICS #9 and SWEET TOOTH #33.


With guest artist Gene Ha joining regular series writer Grant Morrison, ACTION COMICS #9 features a standalone tale of an alternate Superman on a parallel Earth. Returning to the comic book page with his debut in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, this Superman of Earth 23 is now confronted with a rift between worlds, and faced with a monstrous Superman surrogate from another Earth gone horribly wrong.
 
The issue also features a back-up story by writer Sholly Fisch and artist Cully Hamner, which showcases this alternate Superman and his adventures on Earth 23.

But the issue’s visual orientation isn’t all that makes it special; SWEET TOOTH #33 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Sweet Tooth’s journey. ACTION COMICS #1 GOES BACK TO PRESS FOR FIFTH PRINTING

Showcasing the uncertain early days of Superman’s heroic career, ACTION COMICS #1 will be going back to press for a fifth printing. The series is written by superstar Grant Morrison and features art by critically acclaimed illustrator Rags Morales. Issue #1 introduces a younger and brasher Superman to the citizens of Metropolis – who aren’t yet sure what to make of their new Kryptonian protector. The fifth printing of ACTION COMICS #1 will be available in comic book stores on March 28, 2012.
