PREVIEW MONDAYS: THE RAVAGERS #2 and AMERICAN VAMPIRE LORD OF NIGHTMARES #1

For this week’s installment of Preview Mondays, we’re give you exclusive first looks at THE RAVAGERS #2 and AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES #1!

A couple of weeks ago we launched THE RAVAGERS. Part of the “Second Wave” of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, this new ongoing monthly series spun directly out of “The Culling” crossover event between TEEN TITANS, TEEN TITANS ANNUAL, LEGION LOST and SUPERBOY. In issue #2, Fairchild, Ridge, Thunder and Lightning attempt to escape from N.O.W.H.E.R.E. and its agents in the “real world.” But when one of them gets held hostage, it’ll test the strength and loyalty of them all. THE RAVAGERS #2 comes to you from the creative team of Howard Mackie, Tom Defalco, Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund. Click here to see an exclusive preview of the issue.

In the new miniseries AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES, we return to postwar Europe where the world’s most dangerous vampire has just been released from a coffin deep below the London Tower Bridge. Can Hobbes, an agent from the vampire-hunting agency known as The Vassals of the Morning Star, coax Agent Felicia Book out of exile to help hunt down the escaped bloodsucker? Who is this vampire and why is he so powerful? AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES #1 is written by Scott Snyder and illustrated by Dustin Nguyen. Click here to see a preview of the issue.

ARTIST IAN CHURCHILL TALKS THE RAVAGERS

“I'm flattered to have been asked to be part of the next wave of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52! Of the cast, Thunder and Lightning were existing characters, but Ridge is a brand new DC character. His look went through a few design changes at the behest of [Editor] Eddie Berganza; in fact it was Eddie's idea to add the feathery eyebrows and whiskers.

"I was as shocked as anyone when Howard [Mackie] decided to make Ridge British; it certainly wasn't anything to do with me, but as far as I'm aware there aren't many British characters in the DC universe, so a new addition is a step in the right direction!”

ARTIST IAN CHURCHILL ON "THE CULLING" CROSSOVER

“The Culling” crossover event is coming this May – but what is The Culling? What are Ravagers? What is N.O.W.H.E.R.E., and how will it threaten the heroes and would-be heroes of DC COMICS_THE NEW 52? You’ll find out soon enough, but in the meantime THE RAVAGERS artist Ian Churchill discusses what to expect from the new series born of the events of “The Culling.”

“RAVAGERS spills out of the 'Culling' event and hits the ground running – quite literally! These characters aren't quite superheroes and they're not quite supervillians either. In fact, they're very difficult to pigeonhole. If you crossed LOGAN’S RUN with THE TERMINATOR, you may have an idea of the tone and vibe of the book. [Writer] Howard Mackie has lots of twists and turns planned for the fugitives that'll keep everyone guessing, and might well take your breath away! Norm Rapmund has altered his inking style somewhat too, so the look of the book is different to what you've seen from us before. If you want high octane, non-stop action then THE RAVAGERS #1 is where it's at!”

Ian Churchill on the variant cover for GREEN LANTERN #7

Back in December, we told you that GREEN LANTERN #7 will kick off a brand new story arc, “The Secret of the Indigo Tribe.” In it, Hal and Sinestro’s uneasy alliance will continue as they travel to the Indigo homeworld to uncover the truths behind a heinous crime.

Today, take an exclusive first look at fan-favorite artist Ian Churchill’s variant cover for the issue, both in black and white and its final colored version.

“The GREEN LANTERN editor, Brian Cunningham, asked for a cover involving the character Indigo-1 and to have the two Green Lanterns completely defeated!” Churchill exclusively told THE SOURCE. “I came up with a few thumbnails and Brian preferred this one because he said he liked the way it reversed the clichéd view of the male on the throne flanked by females.

So with that in mind, I went ahead and this was the result. Having to leave space for the bar code at the bottom was a challenge with this one, but I managed to make it work - in the end!

I then passed it on to Alex Sollazzo for color and... voila! One GREEN LANTERN variant cover was created!”

GREEN LANTERN #7 goes on sale on March 14th.
