A few links of note for Monday

It's Monday, and you've surely spent the weekend away from your computer. Right? Well, even if you haven't, here are a few things you may want to click on between coffee and personal e-mail breaks.

Made it, ma! Top of the world.

• AIN'T IT COOL NEWS was in a Geoff Johns state of mind, with kind words for GREEN LANTERN #40: "GREEN LANTERN is a great comic."

• IGN unveils a first look at BATTLE FOR THE COWL #3.

• NEWSARAMA's Troy Brownfield talks up the first issue of POWER GIRL in their regular BEST SHOTS column: "Frankly, I enjoyed this issue quite a bit. It came off as good fun."

CORPS 101: THE FINALE

Well, of course we had to end with the Black Lanterns. And, as you've probably noticed, IGN has a first look at the amazing piece of work by artist Doug Mahnke, which gives us a first look at the Black Lanterns and some of their potential members.

And in case you missed it, here's a collection of our entire CORPS 101 series, from Green to Black. Why waste valuable time linking back when we can show it all in one place? That's my logic, and I'm sticking to it.

A few links to close out Monday

Monday, Monday...What more can I say? To help in your efforts to grin and get through the first day of the work week (or what's left of it), here are a few things you might have missed over the weekend:

• The New York Times released their Graphic Books Best Seller list for the week of April 4. BATMAN: RIP, BATMAN: THE KILLING JOKE, JOKER, ALL STAR SUPERMAN v2, GREEN LANTERN: SINESTRO CORPS WAR v1 and BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS all made the list in some form.

Comic Book Resources and IGN both gave GREEN LANTERN #39 high marks. IGN also spoke to Geoff Johns about the issue, and the build-up to BLACKEST NIGHT:

IGN Comics: The Sinestro Corps War really took people by surprise and came out of leftfield for a lot of readers. Now that all eyes are on the Green Lantern franchise and Blackest Night, has it been daunting at all trying to live up to all the lofty expectations?

Johns: No. I'm just telling the story the best I can. This is a story I always planned to tell. And it's grown organically, which is my favorite thing about it.

Newsarama has their regularly-scheduled preview of the latest TRINITY issue. They also spoke to J.M. DeMatteis about his upcoming work on the METAL MEN co-feature, which will be appearing in the pages of the new DOOM PATROL series this summer.

MYSPACE Comics previewed the latest issue of SUPERMAN/BATMAN.

• Also at CBR, Chris Yost talk about his upcoming work on RED ROBIN.

A few links of note: THE QUESTION, FLASH: REBIRTH

cullyquestion

Believe it or not, stuff happens elsewhere on the Internet. Crazy, huh? Here are a few things worth looking at.

• The guys at iFanboy have posted a video interview with FLASH: REBIRTH writer Geoff Johns discussing the new series. The interview was conducted the day the first issue hit, during Johns' signing at Jim Hanley's Universe. Additionally, IGN eviews FLASH: REBIRTH via their SMASH!! podcast. And if that's not enough REBIRTH for you, AIN'T IT COOL NEWS also gives the first issue a strong review.

Greg Rucka discusses THE QUESTION co-feature, which will appear in DETECTIVE COMICS starting in June.

• Got a question for Dan DiDio? Newsarama is collecting the latest batch.

A few links of note: Johns and Van Sciver talks REBIRTH, Berganza on BLACKEST NIGHT

GL Cv39 ds

In an effort to prevent you from spiraling into any kind of Monday morning sadness, here's a quick roundup of notable news that hit over the weekend:

• Geoff Johns continued to talk up FLASH: REBIRTH, this time with io9's Graeme McMillan:

Why bring back Barry Allen?

Because the world needs heroes.

Bringing back Barry Allen, that was something that grew out of everything we were doing with Final Crisis with Grant [Morrison] and everything. You know, Grant and I had talked a lot about this, too, when we were working together on DC Universe Zero way back when, about what was going on with the Flash Universe, and more specifically the DC Universe.

With Final Crisis, it was a full circle from Crisis on Infinite Earths, and with Darkseid representing the ultimate evil, and Grant really playing the theme that Darkseid really is evil incarnate without room for any grays, Barry Allen was by all accounts considered the greatest force for good in the DC Universe, and so he was brought back to combat that as a signal of ushering in the new age of heroes back in the day with Showcase #4. Barry represents that.

FLASH: REBIRTH artist Ethan Van Sciver stopped by BLOG@NEWSARAMA as well, talking to Russ Burlingame about the mini-series.

IGN also spoke to GREEN LANTERN and BLACKEST NIGHT editor Eddie Berganza about the upcoming mega-event:

IGN Comics: Obviously you have an interesting situation with Blackest Night running alongside Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps – can you give us an idea of the focus of each title? Will they weave together or are their stories pretty distinct? Is Blackest Night a "big DCU picture" idea with GL and GLC focusing strictly on Hal Jordan and his friends?

Berganza: Ideally, we're giving you complete stories in each title, but if you read them as a whole you are getting a larger view of this threat that is spreading death throughout the universe.

Both GL and GLC will be looking at it from the perspective of the Green Lanterns and the Guardians, and how all the new Corps are affected by it. BN itself will be about how the Black Lanterns are terrorizing the rest of the heroes of the DCU, and you see Hal interacting with them.

IGN previews pages from BATTLE FOR THE COWL #2

By now, you've probably seen IGN's BATTLE FOR THE COWL mini-site, which features previews, interviews and video content discussing the three-issue Batman event. Earlier this week, the site added a first look at the second issue of the series, from writer/artist Tony Daniel. You can find the preview here.

But the BATTLE FOR THE COWL fun doesn't end there. Check out this behind-the-scenes look at Daniel's pencils for the variant cover to BATTLE FOR THE COWL #2.
