Wil Moss talks up the SUPERMAN 80-PAGE GIANT

The SUPERMAN 80-PAGE GIANT features seven stories by a slew of great talent, all taking a look at the Man of Steel from a different viewpoint. Mike Raicht & Charles Paul Wilson III take a peek at young Clark Kent’s life in Smallville; Kathryn Immonen & Tonci Zonjic explore the joys of marriage when Lois Lane takes a sick day; Ben McCool & Matt Camp visit The Daily Planet where Superman has to battle a wicked bug problem; Pat McCallum & Mike Shoyket check in with a gang of Metropolis bank robbers who’ve had their fair share of run-ins with the heroes of the DCU; Jason Hall & Julian Lopez track down a shut-in who turns into a daredevil once Superman saves his life; Rik Hoskin & RB Silva explore what Superman does in his downtime; and DC’s very own associate editor Sean Ryan & Clayton Henry put an entirely new spin on the typical Superman/Bizarro fight! So make sure and pick up a copy this week – you can’t miss that sweet cover by Aaron Lopresti & Brad Anderson!

Look ahead to ADVENTURE COMICS #8

We pride ourselves on being able to answer your questions about upcoming storylines and such, and we're able to do that here. Many of you have been wondering what the plan is for ADVENTURE COMICS immediately after writer Geoff Johns and artist Francis Manapul swing over to Central City to take over FLASH. Well, we'll tell you! Or, better said, ADVENTURE COMICS Assistant Editor Wil Moss will tell you. Take it away, Wil:

ADVENTURE COMICS #8 is the start of a four-issue arc connecting ADVENTURE to the next big Superman story - "Brainiac & The Legion of Super-Heroes." James Robinson & Julian Lopez will provide a 10-page story about the Legion members who are in the 21st Century; Sterling Gates & Clayton Henry will provide a 10-pager about the Legion in the 31st Century; and Eric Trautmann & DC newcomer Pier Gallo (wait till you see this guy's stuff!) will provide a 10-pager about General Lane's Human Defense Corps.

The Superman writers have crafted a really fun and epic story in "Brainiac & The Legion of Super-Heroes" (which will run in ADVENTURE, SUPERMAN, SUPERGIRL and a tittle-to-be-named-later in March). Featuring Superman, Supergirl, Superboy, Mon-El and the Legion of Super-Heroes, it not only brings to a head all the Legion subplots that DC has been laying down since the JLA/JSA "Lightning Saga" story, but also sets the stage for this summer's blockbuster Superman event!

Thanks, Wil. And, as promised, here's the cover to ADVENTURE COMICS #8 by Francis Manapul with colors by Brian Buccellato - the sketches, the inks and the colors.

Writer to Watch: Sterling Gates

Sterling Gates is far from a newcomer to the DCU -- but he's certainly one that's on the rise. With his work -- alongside artist Jamal Igle -- redefining and stabilizing SUPERGIRL, Gates has made a name for himself for his tight plotting and knack for strong and precise characterization. All of which can be seen month-in and month-out in the pages of the Girl of Steel's ongoing series. Not-so-coincidentally, you can get a good sense of what we're talking about here by picking up the newly-released SUPERGIRL: WHO IS SUPERWOMAN? collection, which shows Gates and Igle slowly unraveling the mystery behind the new, villainous Superwoman.

But why stop there? In addition to his work on SUPERGIRL, Gates has expanded his reach in Metropolis and Krypton, firstly by co-writing the recently-concluded "Hunt for Reactron" arc with writer Greg Rucka in the pages of SUPERGIRL and ACTION COMICS and now with WORLD'S FINEST, a mini-series slated to spotlight members of the Batman and Superman families of characters as they team-up to face off against common threats.

The first issue kicks off with Gates and artist Julian Lopez bringing Red Robin and Christopher Kent/Nightwing together to help track down a missing Flamebird -- but as readers have come to expect from Gates, things are rarely that linear, so fans should be in for a treat. But don't take my word for it -- check out some pages from the first issue below.

CODENAME: PATRIOT continues in ACTION COMICS #880

Now that you've gotten the lowdown on CODENAME: PATRIOT from our very own Matt Idelson, we've got a few preview pages from the second installment, written by Greg Rucka with art by artist Julian Lopez (with another installment of Rucka and James Robinson's CAPTAIN ATOM, featuring art by CAFU).

Part two finds Nightwing and Flamebird in pursuit of the sleeper agents Nadira and Az-Rel. But our heroes run into another deadly duo -- Reactron and Metallo. How does this all tie into General Lane's plans? And what happens when Superman and Supergirl reach Earth looking for the shooter?

ACTION COMICS #880 hits 8/12.

Julian Lopez takes over ACTION art duties

How about a little news with your coffee?

This August -- ACTION COMICS #880, to be exact -- will see Julian Lopez (ORACLE: THE CURE, BATMAN AND THE OUTSIDERS) step in as the regular series artist, just in time for a crossover with the other Super-books. I could summarize the plot of said crossover, or hint at stuff, like Superman maybe returning to Earth, or New Krypton/Earth relations hitting an all-new low, but that'll just make you impatient for August, right? Not to fear. We have some sketches from Mr. Lopez to tide you over until then.
