TRINITY WAR Tie-ins Announced!

Earlier this month we announced that the highly anticipated “Trinity War” will be a  massive crossover event spanning the three Justice League titles—JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK.

Well, that’s not all. This morning we revealed with IGN that there are tie-ins! TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA, TRINITY OF SIN: PHANTOM STRANGER and CONSTANTINE will all have a part in “Trinity War”.

“It's not only the first New 52 meeting of all three Justice League teams, it's the first time we'll see how they all interrelate,” says editor Brian Cunningham who spoke with IGN about the upcoming event. Head on over to IGN for more insight from Cunningham and be sure to add “Trinity War” to your summer reading pile!

USA TODAY Announces "Trinity War"

This summer, a war of epic proportions will hit the DC Universe.

Kicking off in July, “Trinity War” will find the Justice League, the Justice League of America, and Justice League Dark teams battling one another in a monumental crossover event. Spanning over six issues throughout the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, and JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, “Trinity War” will see Earth’s biggest heroes going head to head in an explosive arc that will defy the superhero genre.

“It's going to be really interesting when these characters do come together, because some of them haven't met, some of them have, and what happens and unfolds in this is going to force them to choose sides,” writer Geoff Johns (JUSTICE LEAGUE; JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA) revealed to USA TODAY, who announced “Trinity War” earlier this morning both online and in print.

As for how “Trinity War” will impact the future of the DC Universe?

“It's not going to end wrapped up in a bow,” Johns continued to tease. “Something really, really major happens that kicks off some pretty crazy stuff at the end of August.”

To read the full interview with Geoff Johns and with co-writer Jeff Lemire (JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA; JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK), head on over to USA TODAY. 5.2 Reasons We Love the Multiverse

The idea of what could have been always intrigues. It’s literally the basis of fictional storytelling. Those magic words: what if?

What if a stranger visitor from another world came to Earth and our yellow sun granted him amazing abilities far beyond that of normal man? What if a young boy with unlimited funds and resources saw his parents gunned down in front of him and began a never-ending quest for justice? What if a dying alien gifted a young pilot with the most powerful weapon in the galaxy?

These questions gave birth to some of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes—but the questions didn’t stop there. Throughout the years, creators explored other alternatives, other worlds, where Superman landed in Soviet Russian instead of America, where the Justice Society served as a secret government agency instead of public heroes, where Wonder Woman ventured to man’s land during the Victorian Era, and more.

There’s a literal multiverse of possibilities out there, and we love exploring them all.

Earlier this week, DC Comics and WB announced the upcoming Infinite Crisis multiplayer online battle arena game, which features characters from all across the DC Universe—and beyond—venturing into various other Earths including the world of Batman: Vampire and Gotham by Gaslight. The possibilities alone sends our minds reeling from an overdose of awesome, and to help placate ourselves until the game’s release we’re going to take a look at other multiverse tales with 5.2 Reasons We Love the Multiverse!

1. Superman: Red Son

Arguably one of the greatest Elseworlds tales ever written, with a surprise ending that will simply blow your mind, Mark Millar’s Superman: Red Son features a Superman raised in Soviet Russia and explores the intrinsic heroism at the heart of the character. More importantly, it also features a Batman in a fuzzy hat complete with Bat-ears. It’s awesome.

2. JSA: The Liberty Files

Starring the Bat, the Clock and the Owl, JSA: The Liberty Files re-imagined the Justice Society members as secret operatives hunting to uncover the mystery behind a German secret weapon codenamed “the Superman.” Perfect for any fan of action, espionage and super heroes, it exemplifies Elseworlds storytelling at its finest.

3. Batman: In Darkest Knight

Batman becomes a Green Lantern. Seriously, what more do you need to know?

4. JLA: The Nail

Written and drawn by Alan Davis and based around the proverbial rhyme “For Want of a Nail,” JLA: The Nail shows the massive and world-changing consequences one simple act can cause. When a nail leads to Jonathan and Martha Kent never discovering the baby Kal-El, it causes a chain reaction that completely alters the course of the DC Universe, creating a world where metahumans are feared and hated.

5. Superman: Secret Identity

An Elseworld of an Elseworld (sort of), Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek and Stuart Immonen follows Clark Kent—a boy named after the world’s most famous comic book super hero. That’s right, Clark’s from “Earth Prime,” the original home of the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS hero Superboy-Prime. Growing up, Clark resented his name and the jokes that came with it. That is until the day he actually developed super powers.

5.1 Kingdom Come

Don't play this game. You know this.

5.2 The Earth One Line

With More Still to Come!

That’s really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the multiverse. There’s still a ton of tales out there we didn’t mention, including the current Earth 2 ongoing and the upcoming Multiversity limited series by Grant Morrison. What are some of your favorite other Earth tales? Let us know in the comments!

ANNOUNCING DC ENTERTAINMENT'S WonderCon Anaheim EXCLUSIVES

With WonderCon Anaheim just a few short weeks away, it’s time to announce the con exclusives.

If you haven’t already heard, this year, the official WonderCon Anaheim convention T-shirt features an iconic image of Superman drawn by Jim Lee, DC Entertainment Co-Publisher and artist of this summer’s new series SUPERMAN UNCHAINED written by Scott Snyder. This art is also featured on the cover of the official convention Program Book.

Here’s a first look at the t-shirt!

DCE’s WonderCon Anaheim exclusive variant covers envelop two of DC Comics’ most popular series! Priced at $10 each, the BATMAN #17 and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 variant covers are must-have collector’s items.

Illustrated by fan favorite artist Greg Capullo, the WonderCon Anaheim cover for BATMAN #17, written by Scott Snyder, takes the popular die-cut covers from “Death of the Family” and brings them back one last time for the epic final issue. The cover depicts The Joker’s face folded over Bruce Wayne’s, with purple background, to create a lasting impression while representing the ground breaking crossover which featured the Clown Prince of Crime’s triumphant return to DC COMICS—THE NEW 52.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1, the newly launched ongoing series written by Geoff Johns, arrives with a new variant to complete your collection of now over 52 covers for the issue. Like the other covers drawn by series artist David Finch, the WonderCon Anaheim exclusive cover shows key members of the JLA raising the U.S. flag in color, while the other members of the team stand watch in a black and white background.

And the DC Collectibles WonderCon Anaheim exclusives featuring Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner and Larfleeze and DC Nation’s Aardman Batman & Robin were announced on Monday. Click here for the full details.

5.2 Reasons We're Excited for More of the Justice League of America

You know that scene in movies where one person says to the other “This town isn’t big enough for the both of us” and then there’s a face off and one person either ends up dead or run out of town?

Well, we don’t get to say this often, but boy are we glad real life isn’t like the movies.  We’re incredibly glad there’s enough room for two things in this town because it means we can not only get the ongoing Justice League title featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more—but also the brand new titles Justice League of America, Katana and Justice League of America’s Vibe, whose first issues all hit comic shelves this month.

Reading these comics has left us bouncing up and down like a two-year-old on a sugar rush for more, which made us realize that the life-not-like-movies philosophy also applies to Willy Wonka. He nonchalantly tortures children and has a whistle that summons a bunch of creatures that do his bidding and sing songs about your demise. The man’s clearly a super-villain.

Actually, we have quite a bit to say about super-villains this week (we’ll get back to this), but right now, we’re looking for something to help alleviate some of the eagerness coursing through us while we wait for the next issue of these three new titles. And since we also have to put together this week’s 5.2 Reasons column, guess what we’re going to talk about?! We’re going to give you the 5.2 Reasons We’re Excited for More of the Justice League of America!

1. Katana

From her early role in Birds of Prey, we already sort of knew Katana kicked ass. Now that she’s flying solo in her own title, we severely underestimated how much butt she can kick. It’s a lot. With KATANA #1, writer Ann Nocenti managed to really capture an anime-esque feel in the title—and it’s freaking awesome. There’s a guy in the first issue that feels like he’s straight up out of Rurouni Kenshin (if you have any interest in anime, watch that series!), and Katana even manages to take out nearly an entire squad of assassins with just her clothes and jewelry.

2. Vibe

Look, even we’ll admit we’re pleasantly surprised here. As fans of Geoff Johns, we knew if there was anyone that could make Vibe a character we’d end up liking, it’d be him. And by Hawkman’s giant mace, Johns, co-writer Andrew Kreisberg and artist Pete Woods did it. The ending of that first issue alone gave us tingling chills. We’ve got questions and we can’t wait for the answers!

3. Justice League of America

As great as Vibe and Katana are on their own, we can’t wait to see them continue to interact with the entire team Johns’ has brought together in the coming issues. It’s certainly an eclectic group, but already the new takes on Hawkman and even our beloved Stargirl has us itching to see where things are going to go. Especially with...

4. The Secret Society

We told you this would come back around. Most comic fans might recognize the term “The Secret Society.” For those that don’t, know that those three words are often followed by “of Super-Villains.” Who’s part of the society? Who is in charge? And are these killer robot versions of the Big Three??

5. Amazing Artists

Between Pete Woods, Alex Sanchez and, of course, David Finch, all three JLA-related titles are burst at the stapled together seams with eye-popping visuals. Sanchez’s art perfectly matches Katana’s anime-inspired feel, Woods’ Vibe brings with it a feel of ::ahem:: vibrant youth and exuberance, and Finch’s dark style fits flawlessly with the tone of the new League and their morally questionable mission statement.

5.1 This Spread Full of Cameos

Can you figure out who is who?

5.2 JL vs. JLA: Place Your Bets!

USA TODAY Previews JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 and Interviews Geoff Johns and David Finch

Six months ago, we announced JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, a new ongoing series from the acclaimed creative team of Geoff Johns (JUSTICE LEAGUE; AQUAMAN; GREEN LANTERN) and David Finch (BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT). And this week, the wait is finally over, as JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 will fly onto stands.

This morning, USA TODAY ran an exclusive preview of the issue and interviewed Johns and Finch about the launch of the series, its eclectic cast of characters, upcoming villains, and more.

“It's about recruits who didn't necessarily want the job and were going on missions they weren't necessarily passionate about, but they did it for various reasons,” Johns teased to USA TODAY about the series’ launch. “I love Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman, but I do find myself gravitating toward the underdogs.”

"It's not Batman and Superman and the big, big characters, and we can do a lot of pretty crazy stuff with these guys. People are going to be pretty surprised. It gets a little bit more wild than what you'd see in JUSTICE LEAGUE proper,” Finch continued. “I love the villains the most. This is so up my alley.”

To see the exclusive preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 and to read the full interview with Johns and Finch, pick up a copy of today’s USA TODAY and head over to the front page of the “Life” section, or simply just check out their website!

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 goes on sale tomorrow.
