DC Entertainment Announces Official Publication Date for BEFORE WATCHMEN

On Wednesday, June 6, DC Comics will publish the first of the highly anticipated BEFORE WATCHMEN comic book prequels. BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN, written and drawn by Darwyn Cooke, will be the first issue released the first Wednesday in June, followed in subsequent weeks by BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE by Darwyn Cooke and Amanda Conner (June 13), BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN by Brian Azzarello and J.G. Jones (June 20), and BEFORE WATCHMEN: NITE OWL by J. Michael Straczynski, Andy Kubert and Joe Kubert (June 27). The first issue of BEFORE WATCHMEN: RORSCHACH and BEFORE WATCHMEN: DR. MANHATTAN will be released later in the summer. All issues of the BEFORE WATCHMEN titles will be available same day digital and fans will have the option of buying a digital combo pack edition.

Every issue of BEFORE WATCHMEN will have a 1 in 25 variant cover drawn by a premier comic book artist: BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #1 by Michael Golden, BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE #1 by Dave Johnson, BEFORE WATCHMEN: COMEDIAN #1 by Eduardo Risso and BEFORE WATCHMEN: NITE OWL #1 by Kevin Nowlan.

Each of the BEFORE WATCHMEN first issues will feature a 1 in 200 variant cover by legendary artist and DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee (JUSTICE LEAGUE).

The announcement that DC Comics will publish prequels to the bestselling graphic novel of all time has already generated international press coverage and widespread controversy, months in advance of the release of the first issue.

A double shot of Bernie Wrightson Batman? Sold.

Finally, the “lost” Bernie Wrightson Batman story has arrived. Written by veteran Ron Marz with inks by the masterful Kevin Nowlan, the story pits the Dark Knight against Solomon Grundy and features full-page illustrations throughout the issue.

But that’s not all. BATMAN: HIDDEN TREASURES also features a newly-colored Wrightson and Len Wein classic, “Night of the Bat,” which originally appeared in SWAMP THING #7. Both stories feature colors by acclaimed artist Alex Sinclair.

A few variant covers for Friday

I’m on vacation, but still – what better way to head into the weekend than by posting some nice images to click through?

What’ve we got? Don Kramer’s cover to WONDER WOMAN #602, Kevin Maguire’s JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST #9, John Cassaday on DOC SAVAGE #6, Ryan Sook’s BATMAN: THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #5 and a lovely Kevin Nowlan BATMAN #703 piece.

Have a great weekend!

A closer look at BATMAN: HIDDEN TREASURES

Bernie Wrightson drawing Batman. What more do you really need, beyond knowing that the master storyteller is putting pen to paper on a tale of the Dark Knight? Well, OK. How about industry legend Kevin Nowlan? All bringing to life a story by veteran writer Ron Marz.

But that’s not all – the issue also includes a newly colored, classic Wrightson/Len Wein Batman story: “Night of the Bat,” which originally appeared in SWAMP THING #7, featuring colors by the masterful Alex Sinclair. This lineup couldn’t get more A-list if we tried. But enough boasting – how about a look at a few pages from the issue?
