Get a double dose of Lex Luthor in ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #13

While present-day Lex Luthor is busy fighting an array of the DCU's most vile foes over in ACTION COMICS, this year's ACTION COMICS ANNUAL takes a look back at two formative encounters Luthor had before he became the bald mad genius we know and love today.

Paul Cornell gives us two great stories in this double-sized volume. In the first, Marco Rudy illustrates a story of young Lex and Darkseid, while in the second we've got Ed Benes tackling a tale starring Luthor and Batman villain Ra's al Ghul.

ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #13 hits stores on December 2nd.

Dick Grayson’s first challenge as Batman – is Superman?

Writer Judd Winick and artist Marco Rudy kick off a new arc on SUPERMAN/BATMAN by jumping back to the days following FINAL CRISIS. In the shadow of the “Return of Bruce Wayne,” Superman remembers the fall of The Dark Knight, as Dick Grayson takes on the mantle of the Bat. But as a threat both alien and mystical erupts in Gotham, does the new World’s Finest team stand a chance?

SUPERMAN/BATMAN #76 hits 9/22.

A first look at THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS Special

We’ve gotten a kick reading the great work writers Eric Trautmann, Brandon Jerwa, John Rozum, Matthew Sturges and all involved have done in the pages of THE SHIELD and THE WEB – so what else is in store for the Red Circle heroes? And if, like me, you’ve been a fan of these characters for a long time, you also know that in previous incarnations these characters were in a little group called…well, I’ll leave it up to Red Circle Editor Rachel Gluckstern to do the heavy lifting on this post. Take it away, Rachel:

Editor Rachel Gluckstern on the next wave of Red Circle characters

DC Nation, it’s Go Time. The second wave of the Red Circle heroes is upon us! And with them, an array of talent so dizzying, you may need some Dramamine after this post! So hold on tight and read on!

It all begins in The Shield #5 when Marco Rudy brings the Jaguar to life as the Shield battles Nazi robots deep in the Brazilian jungle. Check out Marco’s amazing design as he showcases the feral side of this mysterious new hero! Will he help the Shield – or hurt him?

SHIELD editor Rachel Gluckstern on heroism and Veterans Day

Interesting fact about Lt. Joe Higgins, a.k.a. the Shield: he does not consider himself a hero, let alone a super one. For Lt. Higgins, the experimental warsuit he wears saved his life and enables him to continue doing his duty. It's his honor to serve his country and uphold its ideals, and even if the style of his uniform has changed, his commitment to it has never wavered. Higgins doesn't think of himself as a hero, he thinks of himself as a solider of the United States Armed Forces, now and until the day he lays down his arms.

Get a first look at THE SHIELD #1

Spinning out directly from last month's "Red Circle" event from superstar writer J. Michael Straczynski, we've got a first look at THE SHIELD #1, the debut issue of the new ongoing series chronicling the patriotic hero's exploits. Along for the ride is an INFERNO co-feature. The main story, written by Eric Trautmann with art by Marco Rudy takes Lt. Joe Higgins -- a.k.a. the Shield -- into the hot spots across the globe where civilians fear to tread. His first mission finds him in Bialya, the nation destroyed by Black Adam in the pages of 52.

Kick off the week with some SHIELD #1 pages

On 9/2, writer Eric Trautmann and artist Marco Rudy team up for THE SHIELD, a new ongoing series spinning out of The Red Circle one-shot and featuring an INFERNO co-feature.

We're still closely guarding a first look at a full-on preview, but The Source is all about teasing stuff, no? So here's a first look at a lovely spread from the main story, by Mr. Rudy. Pretty neat, huh?

Want to ESCAPE? This is probably not what you had in mind

Talk about a terrible way to wake up. Imagine opening your eyes and realizing you're a prisoner of the Global Peace Agency, inside the walls of Electric City. That's Nemesis' new status quo, and it isn't exactly a vacation. Trapped with members of the superhuman intelligence community and subjected to systematic torture, can Nemesis escape? Can he even find anyone he can trust? Probably not, but it'll make for good reading. Here's a preview of FINAL CRISIS AFTERMATH: ESCAPE #1, which hits 5/13.
