DC Comics’ Facebook page posted your first look at tomorrow’s GREEN ARROW #3. In the issue, Oliver Queen must defend himself against the maniacal Rush, who wants to kill him in front of a live audience. Pretty twisted, right?

And just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean it’s time to stop the scares from rolling in. Check out NEWSARAMA’s interview with I, VAMPIRE writer Joshua Hale Fialkov. “Matt Idelson and I talked a lot about good crossover opportunities, ways to show case that the book is set in the current DCU, and that the events around it are 'really happening,’” Fialkov teased of John Constantine’s upcoming appearance in the series. “Constantine serves as such a great gateway for that because he already stands on the side of the macabre, and his attitude is so opposite of Andrew’s. John is an actor, not a brooder. John is willing to do what has to be done, where as Andrew, we've seen, is slightly more hesitant.”

Following up on their recent preview of his DEMON KNIGHTS #1, the Paul Cornell enthusiasts at WIRED’s UNDERWIRE have an exclusive 4-page glimpse of STORMWATCH #2 by Cornell, Miguel Sepulveda and Al Barrionuevo.

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS interviewed MEN OF WAR writer Ivan Brandon to accompany their exclusive preview of issue #2. “He's of a different era,” Brandon said of the difference between Frank and Jack Rock. “And he's dealing with the weight of that lineage, of being down the line from a great man who was a hero in a war that didn't throw the term around. Frank Rock was a natural. Joe Rock is younger, still learning how to be a hero.”

Meanwhile, YAHOO's ASSOCIATED CONTENT has your first look at STATIC SHOCK #2. “This decision better integrates Static into the wider DCU by placing him in a major city already populated by other DCU heroes (Hawkman, Captain Atom),” said the series’ co-writer and artist Scott McDaniel about relocating Virgil Hawkins and his family to New York City. “This relocation forces the character to take the next step in his development.”

Maybe I have a little too much of what might be termed “peripheral vision.” As much as I enjoy the comics that carry the thrust of the “mainstream,” I tend to follow whatever flows off the main stem to see where they may lead. I like the periphery, the left field, the off-beat, the eccentric. Show me an edge and I’ll sail off it.

I’ve been very lucky: I’ve been able to work on a lot of comics that had a reputation for straying from the pack. That streak of luck has continued with DC Comics-The New 52.

Have you heard about ANIMAL MAN yet? It’s already garnering a reputation for being different from the pack. I’ve read a lot of comic books, and I’ve never seen anything like what Travel Foreman is putting into his pages. He’s clearly inspired by the scripts he’s getting from Jeff Lemire, in which Buddy Baker … and his whole family … are forced to confront strange new worlds they never counted on seeing in their lifetimes.

Jeff’s also behind FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. This is a far cry from Mary Shelley’s monster: he’s now a secret agent for the Super Human Advanced Defense Executive, wielding a sword against monsters ten times as ugly and formidable as he is. Alberto Ponticelli’s been drawing this, and he and Jeff seem to be in a friendly competition: the more insane the concept, the more Alberto tries to one-up him in the visual department. A thousand monsters in a panel? A city in a globe? A strange new incarnation of Father Time? The ideas fly between them pretty fast, and the results are astounding!

When you see J.G. Jones’ electrifying covers on MISTER TERRIFIC, you’ll know we’re going for a vibe you won’t find just anywhere. Eric Wallace has hotwired the adventures of the World’s Third Smartest Man, keeping one of Michael Holt’s feet firmly planted in the Ninth Dimension and the other in the chaotic California of the DCU. It’s super-science with the volume cranked all the way up, and Gianluca Gugliotta’s pencils make the otherworldly concepts seem really incredibly otherworldy!

Ivan Brandon’s one of the brightest guys currently working, and I was eager to see what he come up with for the new Sgt. Rock. He didn’t disappoint. The book is set in contemporary times against contemporary landscapes, but with a twist: it’s set in the DC Universe. It’s a race to see who outstrips whom: MEN OF WAR or the headlines. Tom Derenick keeps things earthy and real with his approach to the art.

Also confronting a new landscape is Jonah Hex. Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray have dropped him in the middle of a world beyond his understanding: Gotham City. If you’ve checked out Moritat’s work on THE SPIRIT, you’ll know what dizzying heights of draftsmanship he’s capable of … and they’re all on display in ALL-STAR WESTERN. These are all singular reading experiences, as far from the norm as we could make them!

Both the war and Western books also have some room to test out new concepts, as they’re all slightly larger than the rest of mags. Inside the numbers: JUSTICE LEAGUE # 1 is officially the best-selling comic book of 2011

Earlier today, Diamond Comic Distributors, the world's largest distributor of comics, graphic novels, and pop culture merchandise, officially announced that JUSTICE LEAGUE issue 1, written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, is the bestselling comic book for the month of August—and to date, all of 2011.

That's the headline—and it's a good one—but, for those interested, here's a further look inside the numbers for DC COMICS-THE NEW 52:

· With a first printing exceeding 200,000 copies, JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 was the highest first printing of any DC Comics' title since 2006's JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA # 1 by NEW YORK TIMES bestselling writer Brad Meltzer, Ed Benes and Sandra Hope.

· The 200,000 first printing figure includes the digital combo pack and all variant editions, but not digital sales. The first printing was sold out at Diamond within hours of going on sale. The second printing of JUSTICE LEAGUE also sold out in less than 24 hours and the issue is now in its third printing.

· The DC Comics App peaked at # 4 on iTunes for Top Grossing I-Pad Apps. during the first week of The New 52.

· JUSTICE LEAGUE is one of ten titles so far from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 with print runs of more than 100,000 (ACTION COMICS, BATGIRL, BATMAN, BATMAN AND ROBIN, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT, DETECTIVE COMICS, FLASH, GREEN LANTERN, SUPERMAN).

Coverage for DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 just keeps on coming!

CNN.com looked at the increased – and still increasing – diversity in the comic book industry, highlighting DC Comics – The New 52. According to writer Judd Winick, who was interviewed for the piece because of his work on BATWING, “We want to attack it in kind of a really honest way." CNN.com also featured Tony S. Daniel’s artwork for DETECTIVE COMICS #1 in their look at the week’s top comic book releases.

The ASSOCIATED PRESS cited the resurgence of MEN OF WAR and BLACKHAWKS as a return to the venerable war genre in comic books – supported by interviews with writers Ivan Brandon and Mike Costa. Brandon (MEN OF WAR) embraced the challenge of creating real-world heroes in a world populated by superhumans. He said, “If you exist in this real army and try to keep all of that real as possible, what, realistically, would the addition of superheroes to that world, what would that mean? How would you react to that?” Added Costa of BLACKHAWKS, “It's closer to a war book than it is a super hero book. This is a group of people, when there are crises of a certain nature, are scrambled to respond to it. It's like Seal Team Six in the DC Universe.”

Canada’s top modern rock station, 102.1 THE EDGE spoke with writer/artist Tony S. Daniel about DETECTIVE COMICS #1 and the Dark Knight’s infamous rogues gallery.
