Our NYCC Talent Portraits

On Monday, we let you know about the latest collection of talent portraits to hit our directory. We also revealed that Grant Morrison is truly magic when it comes to the pen (which we knew…we just didn’t realize quite how magic). Of course, amazing as he is, Mr. Morrison is only one of the extremely talented writers and artists to visit our mobile photo studio in between panels, meetings and signings at the Javitz Center. We took photos of well over 30 creators in total. Wondering which ones?

Well, wonder no more. We’ve listed them all below…

So is your favorite writer or artist among them? If not, maybe we caught him or her at one of our earlier conventions. Be sure to look them up in our talent directory if you haven’t already, and if they’re not there, don’t worry. These may be the last of our portraits for 2012, but they won’t be the last to hit the site. We’ll be doing this all again in 2013. We’ll see you at the cons!

New Talent Portraits from New York Comic-Con

What do Grant Morrison, Greg Capullo and Dave Gibbons have in common? All three men have created comics for DC and all three have photos included in our latest batch of DCComics.com talent portraits.

If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, allow us to recap a bit. Over the past year, we’ve been taking our mobile photo studio and crack team of professional photographers to some of the biggest comic book conventions in the country to capture our talented creators on film. Our first convention was Wondercon, then C2E2, and then San Diego Comic-Con. Throughout it all, the response to the portraits has been phenomenal, so to make sure we ended the year on a good note, we sent our studio to one final 2012 convention: New York Comic-Con.

Considering how many of our writers and artists live in or near New York, we knew this would be a big convention for us, and we weren’t disappointed. All told, we added over 30 new portraits to our talent directory.

You can see a few of them below, but why don’t you take a pass through our directory and see how many you can find? Then come back to THE SOURCE on Wednesday for the full list.

NYCC 2012: DC Comics: Batman - Death Comes to Gotham

The Night of the Owls may be over, but if anything, things are only getting darker for Gotham's guardians. Unfolding in the pages of nearly every Bat-title, "Death of the Family" promises to have Batman fans talking for months...at least when they're not turning pages nervously, perched on the edge of their seat. The Joker has returned, and tragedy may once again be in store for Bruce Wayne and his friends and allies. But when will it strike, and to whom? The only thing we know for certain is that Gotham will never be the same.

Seated alongside moderator John Cunningham in room 1E13 is a full team of Bat-talent ready to discuss what awaits us, including Scott Snyder (Batman), David Finch (Batman: The Dark Knight), Gregg Hurwitz (Batman: The Dark Knight), Grant Morrison (Batman, Incorporated), Kyle Higgins (Nightwing), Peter Tomasi (Batman and Robin), James Tynion IV (Talon), Scott Lobdell (Red Hood and the Outlaws) and more.

We're wrapping up our live panel coverage with one of the most anticipated panels of the show. And you can see exactly what's revealed below:

NYCC 2012: DC Entertainment: Meet the Co-Publishers

As Co-Publishers of DC Entertainment, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio are the driving force behind the great comics and graphic novels coming out of DC today. In this always popular panel, the two leaders invite fans to share their questions, concerns and comments with them regarding DC Comics and the great characters we all know and love. If there are questions in the audience about DC COMICS - THE NEW 52, Before Watchmen, DC Digital, original graphic novels like Batman: Earth One or anything else, they're about to get answers.

Moderated by Bob Wayne in room 1A21, the discussion will surely be lively and memorable. And you can follow right along with it below:

NYCC 2012: DC Comics: Justice League

What does it take for some of the biggest heroes in all of comics to come together? Apparently, it takes a Justice League panel.

What? You thought we were talking about our characters? Well, there's no doubt that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg are all legends, but so are the creative people bringing them to life each month, and we're bringing many of them to this panel to discuss DC COMICS - THE NEW 52's Justice League, Aquaman, The Flash and Wonder Woman, as well as the highly anticipated new ongoing, Justice League of America. What tantalizing teases and heroic hints will they let slip about our favorite superteams?

Let's find out! Joining our fearless moderator Bob Wayne onstage in room 1E07 are editor Brian Cunningham, Geoff Johns (Justice League, Justice League of America), Jim Lee (Justice League), David Finch (Justice League of America), Francis Manapul (The Flash), Brian Buccellato (The Flash), Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman), Joe Prado (Aquaman), Ivan Reis (Aquaman) and others. You're not going to want to miss a moment of this exciting panel, and fortunately, if you follow along below, you won't:

NYCC 2012: Vertigo - Fables 10th Anniversary

Has it really been ten years since we were first introduced to Snow White, Bigby Wolf, Rose Red and all the residents of Fabletown? It has indeed, and what a journey it's been. Through more than 120 issues, numerous graphic novels, multiple Eisner Awards and a highly-acclaimed spin-off or two, the cast of Bill Willingham's beloved fantasy series have come to feel like good friends. Fortunately, while the years have brought changes to Fables, the one thing this comic book series hasn't done is slowed down. In fact, with the success of Fairest, the upcoming original graphic novel Werewolves of the Heartland, and the recent conclusion of "Cubs in Toyland," one of the most talked-about Fables storylines in ages, this great comic is still living happily ever after.

Our moderating mundie John Cunningham is now being joined onstage in room 1A23 by Fables creator and writer Bill Willingham, group editor Shelly Bond, Phil Jimenez (Fairest), Matt Sturges (Fairest), Sean E. Williams (Fairest) and more. It's one panel that's sure to be legendary, and you can follow it all below:

NYCC 2012: DC Comics All Access: Before Watchmen

Powerful, smart and compelling, the seven miniseries that have comprised Before Watchmen have inspired praise, outrage, acclaim and all manner of conversation, and they're not over yet. Join us for an eye-opening discussion with a few of the men and women behind this powerhouse publishing event, and learn what's on the horizon, including the recently announced Before Watchmen: Moloch. You never know what to expect at a Before Watchmen panel, and if this one's anything like our previous panels, it'll likely have everyone talking afterwards. Just like Before Watchmen itself.

Joining moderator John Cunningham on the room 1E13 stage are Before Watchmen editors Mark Chiarello and Will Dennis, Brian Azzarello (Before Watchmen: Rorschach, Before Watchmen: Comedian), Lee Bermejo (Before Watchmen: Rorschach), Amanda Conner (Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre), Eduardo Risso (Before Watchmen: Moloch), Bill Sienkewicz (Before Watchmen: Nite Owl) and Len Wein (Before Watchmen: Ozymandias).

NYCC 2012: Vertigo: A View from the Cutting Edge of Comics

Bold. Imaginative. Unique. Sophisticated. Cutting Edge.

There are many words that can be used to describe Vertigo, the award-winning publisher of Fables, American Vampire, 100 Bullets and The Sandman. Soon to enter its 20th year of publishing, Vertigo remains as lively and unpredictable as it was at its inception. Whether you've been reading since the early days of Swamp Thing and Hellblazer, or have become a fan more recently through comics and graphic novels like Get Jiro! and Fairest, there's much to look forward to for Vertigo readers.

Joining moderator John Cunningham onstage in room 1A23 are Senior VP - Executive Editor Karen Berger, editors Shelly Bond and Will Dennis, Scott Snyder (American Vampire), Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire), Bill Willingham (Fables, Fairest), Dustin Nguyen (American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares), Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth), Brian Azzarello (Spaceman, 100 Bullets), Ryan Kelly (Saucer Country) and more.

We hear there may be a couple big announcements in store for this one. You may want to pay close attention as we follow along below:

Survival Tip #3: Money, Money, Mooooney... MONNNEY!

There is a lot of really, really cool swag at conventions. From toys to statues to comic books and graphic novels to replica weapons like the Sword of Omens (we have seen this and it is awesome!). Shopping at conventions can be a lot of fun, but what's not as fun is only having a credit card handy, running out of cash, or waiting in lines at the ATM.

Different vendors accept different types of payment methods. Some accept only credit cards, some accept only cash, and a few accept both. Therefore, it’s a good plan to carry both on you. When it comes to cash, make sure you have enough. There's a lot to buy, and if you run out, you could find yourself waiting in line for a long time to use an ATM—and you'll then get charged a withdrawal fee! Of about a thousand dollars! (Well, not really, but expect the ATM fees on the convention center ATMs to be on the high side.) And that’s to say nothing about the fact that sometimes those ATMs run out of cash.

This is one time where being prepared will save you both time and money!

Hey, you know what’s also really cost effective? Our exclusive Con Away From Con coverage here on DCComics.com! Starting tomorrow, look for exclusive updates, including videos, panel recaps (which feature jpegs of any art that’s shown in the panel) and more. They’ll be coming at you all weekend long here on DC website, and on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Even if you’re missing out on NYCC this year, we’re making sure you don’t miss out on the excitement.
