It’s official, the countdown for the ARROW season finale has begun with only two episodes left! The ARROW OLIVER QUEEN STATUE, based on the likeness of actor Stephen Amell, is highly detailed, measures approximately 13.25 high x 5 wide x 5 inches deep, and is hand-painted, cold-cast porcelain. This is a must-have for fans of the show!

One Story, Two Mediums: A Look at the Arrow Comic

Millions of Oliver Queen fans tune in to watch the Hood come to life each Wednesday on the small screen, but if you’re only watching the show, you’re only getting half the story. Every Wednesday also marks the release of a brand new chapter of the digital first comic book.

Yeah, we know what many of you are thinking. The comic’s just another television adaptation full of inconsequential stories that don’t have any real impact on the series.

We understand where that sentiment comes from, but when it comes to Arrow, it couldn’t be more off target. The weekly comic book series was designed from the very start to go hand in hand with what’s happening onscreen each week. Unlike most television adaptations, the Arrow comic is actually written by the same team working on the show, ensuring that the universe stays unified and allowing for an unprecedented level of crossover between the show and the comic book.

“For the past 22 weeks, I think we've been giving Arrow fans some very compelling short stories that really add to the mythos of the series,” says Alex Antone, the editor of the Arrow comic book. “The writers—who are also staff writers on the show—have put a lot of effort into making sure that what you see in the comic is seamlessly integrated into what you see on the screen. Whether it’s Diggle talking about his time in Afghanistan [in Chapter 4] or Detective Lance's drinking problem [in Chapter 18]—this comic gives fans a unique opportunity to REALLY get inside the heads of the characters they watch every week on Arrow.”

Sometimes the comic book’s connection to the series is more background in nature—giving us an exciting look at Ollie in action as he fulfills the promise he made to his father. Other times, it’s very closely tied to the series, filling in details that are crucial to the onscreen story. Frequently, this involves giving the villains more time in the spotlight than a weekly hour-long program allows.

Next Wednesday’s Chapter 22, “Back from the Deadshot,” follows in this tradition with a story that bridges Deadshot’s first appearance in the series (way back in episode 3) with his return in last night’s episode, “Dead to Rights.”

“It's great to finally see Arrow's Deadshot make his first appearance in comic book form—and boy did the creative team nail it!” Antone expands. “Like we did with China White in Chapter 3, Huntress in Chapter 9 and 11, and Deathstroke in Chapter 19, we love using the digital comic to tell the ‘untold’ villain backstories.”

The excitement at bringing Deadshot to the Arrow comic is echoed by Chapter 22’s creative team.

“I think fans of the show are really going to appreciate seeing how Floyd Lawton gets his groove back after his defeat at the hands of the Arrow in ‘Lone Gunmen,’” says Ben Sokolowski, co-writer of the installment. “Deadshot is death incarnate...someone I think our fans will love to hate. He is becoming such a cornerstone to our mythos, especially with Diggle, that missing this chapter should get you on Oliver’s list.”

Another benefit to reading the comic is the thrill of seeing the residents of Starling City drawn in the distinct style of some truly amazing artists. Bringing the Deadshot tale to life is Sergio Sandoval, who’s become a regular to the world of Oliver Queen.

“This chapter has two things going for it. Deadshot and the super talented Sergio Sandoval,” says Wendy Mericle, the chapter’s other co-writer. “As a writer, I really couldn't ask for anything more to work with.”

“It's been really cool bringing back such a dark and evil character,” explains Sandoval. “Now I feel responsible for what happens to him! Deadshot needs his own spin-off!”

“Back from the Deadshot” is available digitally on March 6th, but what adventures can Arrow fans look forward to after that? Well, since the comic intertwines so closely with the television series, the folks involved with both projects are loath to reveal too much. However, Antone did offer up a few tantalizing hints…

“In addition to the usual Arrow butt-kicking, we've got a special Tommy and Laurel chapter, appearances by Detective McKenna Hall and Felicity Smoak, and a shocking flashback to the island featuring Deathstoke, Yao-Fei, and the comic debut of Shado as drawn by creator Mike Grell!”

So…where is Walter? Which other villains will be coming to Starling City before the season’s over? And what will happen between Oliver and Slade Wilson on the island?!

The team isn’t about to give up those green-hued goods, but with a steady stream of adventures on both the small screen and the comic page one thing’s for certain—Oliver Queen’s arrows won’t run out anytime soon.

Look for new digital first installments of the Arrow comic every Wednesday in the DC Comics Digital Store!

5.2 Reasons it's a Great Time to be a Green Arrow Fan

If you love the color green and you love people that shoot other people with arrows—and the idea of those two things together gets you more excited than Wonder Woman at a sword sale—then slip on an extra pair of your excitement pants because right now, it’s all about Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow.

From his own television series to showing up as a playable character in the upcoming Injustice: Gods Among Us to multiple appearances in multiple comic book titles, Green Arrow seems to be hitting the mark all across the pop culture board. And as fellow fans of the Emerald Archer, we’re so ecstatic that we’re ready to slip on a green hoodie and run down the street firing sticky arrows onto the sides of buildings proclaiming our love of the character.

However, since the police department and general public frowns on that sort of behavior (a lesson we learned the hard way after repeated viewings of Lord of the Rings), we instead decided to present you with the 5.2 Reasons it’s a Great Time to be a Green Arrow Fan! Sadly, the existence of this column isn’t included as one of those reasons, even though we totally know you all love it so much.

1. Arrow Stikes Again

Yesterday marked the return of the popular CW television series Arrow. Besides the obvious thrill that comes with being able to see Willa Holland, Katie Cassidy and shirtless Stephen Amell again, the simple fact of the matter is that Arrow is an insanely awesome action series that has only gotten better and better with each passing episode and each introduction of a new DCU character. Firefly served as the antagonist in last night’s episode, and upcoming eps are set to include Count Vertigo, Roy Harper and more Deathstroke!

2. Jeff Lemire’s Green Arrow

We’re interested in just about everything that Lemire chooses to take on, but for Green Arrow fans, his taking the reins of the hero’s self-titled series beginning with February’s issue #17 is particularly exciting. Lemire has a knack for humanizing characters and injecting a great bit of humor into his stories, and after hearing him talk about the character in interviews, we trust him enough to put an apple on our head and let him fire away—blindfolded!

3. Bringing Arrow-y Justice to Injustice

The upcoming fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us by NetherRealm Studios looks to utilize the DC Comics stable of characters in face-punching, wall-smashing and other sure-to-leave-a-bruise ways of beating the ever-living crap out of each other. Green Arrow joins the likes of Superman, Batman, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Nightwing and many yet to be revealed characters for the game, which arrives in stores this April.

4. Statues, Figures, and Toys, Oh My

Green Arrow is also taking stage in the collector’s realm with a number of statues and figures from DC Collectibles—including a beautiful Arrow statue, a 3.75-inch figure based on his appearance in Injustice, and a DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 action figure! Put them all together with others heroes from across DC Collectibles and you can reenact your very own Crisis on Multiple Earths crossover! Cause, you know, what else do we do in our spare time?

5. Arrow Goes Online

Things usually come in threes—strikes, great film franchises, celebrity deaths—and Green Arrow gets his own triple treat by not only starring in the monthly Green Arrow and the upcoming Justice League of American, but also the weekly digital first series Arrow, which ties into the television series and explores the background of various characters such as Huntress, Firefly, Diggle and more.

5.1 Green Arrow Joins the Justice League of America

This Just Happened: Steve Trevor Teams Up With Green Arrow

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read JUSTICE LEAGUE #13 yet and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoiler alerts ahead!).

From the all-star creative team of co-writers Geoff Johns and Jeff Lemire and artists Brad Walker and Drew Hennessy, “On The Outs” serves as more than just the back-up story to JUSTICE LEAGUE #13. It also plants the seeds for February’s JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 and teases what’s in store for Steve Trevor and Green Arrow in 2013.

In case you missed it, Steve Trevor was officially let go as the Justice League’s liaison to A.R.G.U.S. following the harrowing events that nearly cost him his life in “The Villain’s Journey” story arc. But his story is far from over.

In “On The Outs,” Steve reunites with Oliver Queen, who has sought him out to report a mysterious new threat to the Justice League. How will Steve and Oliver combine forces to combat this new threat before it sets its bull’s eye on the Justice League? We asked editor Brian Cunningham to tease the monumental impact of this back-up on the ever-expanding DC Universe. Over to you, Brian!

“The story follows directly out of events in the main story in JUSTICE LEAGUE #13. It’s only six pages, but it packs a wallop of intriguing set-up material for 2013’s DC Universe. Colonel Steve Trevor is confronted by Amanda Waller and saddled with some consequences of the previous JUSTICE LEAGUE arc. And Trevor’s arc is only going to get more fascinating in the coming year — he’s quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.”

“As much as Trevor may not like it, he and Oliver Queen find common ground in the oddest of ways, as we’ll learn,” Cunningham continued. “It all lays the groundwork for how Green Arrow is going to have a huge 2013.”

“Working with Geoff and Jeff is always — and I mean ALWAYS — great fun. Their ideas going in are usually so strong that they do most of the heavy lifting. If there is ever an opportunity to work with them, I will claw my way to grab it.”

Stay tuned to THE SOURCE for more about Green Arrow and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in the coming weeks. But in the meantime, click here to read “On The Outs” and be sure to pick up your copy of JUSTICE LEAGUE #13, in stores now!

FLASHPOINT FRIDAY: “It’s about not being afraid of change.”

flashpoint-logo_whiteAfter a savage attack on his company that left him as a sole survivor, Oliver Queen is haunted by the final words of Roy, one of his closest friends: “You have it in you to do something inspiring, Ollie, and I’m going to watch you do it.”

While he seeks out a mysterious female raider he caught on camera during the attack, Oliver can’t help but wonder about the potential of his Green Arrow Industries. Can he fulfill Roy’s dreams of turning his corporation itself into a superhero? What would it take for a big business to not only fight for people but also inspire them?

“One of the (many, many, MANY) cool things Geoff has going on in FLASHPOINT is that for all the epic superhero moments, at its heart is a story about people dealing with change,” said Pornsak Pichetshote. “And, I don’t know, it seems like that’s the undercurrent of every major news story right now. Plus, from his hard-hitting heroes days, hasn’t Green Arrow had its roots in using cool superhero action to comment on the world? So why not keep that tradition going in a story that involves blood, super-weapons and archery?”

FLASHPOINT: GREEN ARROW INDUSTRIES is written by Pornsak Pichetshote and features art by Marco Castiello, Ig Guara, Vincenzo Acunzo, and Ruy Jose, and arrives in stores next week. Head over to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES to view exclusive preview pages.
