This Just Happened: Fury's Identity Is Revealed

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read EARTH 2 #8 and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!)

Last month, writer James Robinson told you a little bit about EARTH 2 #8 and teased the issue’s significance for the series. Then, you got your first look at Fury, Steppenwolf’s female champion. But what is the mystery behind her origin?

After his failed invasion of the planet that lead to the death of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, Steppenwolf has gone into hiding on Earth. While in hiding, he seeks refuge in Dherain, a country ruled by King Marov. But little does Steppenwolf know, Marov plans on turning him in for a profit.

Luckily, Steppenwolf brought Fury along for protection. But who is she? Where did she come from? As Fury easily defeats all of Marov’s guards, Steppenwolf reveals she is not from Apokolips … but from Earth!

Taken, from her mother and trained to be his champion, Fury is a master in the ways of Apokolips combat and is from the finest warrior bloodline in the world. Steppenwolf claims that her mother was the greatest of all the Amazonians, so Fury can only be one person: the daughter of Wonder Woman!

Together, Steppenwolf and Fury create an unstoppable force capable of conquering the entire country of Dherain and slaughtering King Marov. But weeks later, as he sits on his new throne, Steppenwolf realizes what he truly wants. Not just one country, but the entire world! But will Fury be the one to help the man who murdered her mother achieve this goal of global domination?

Below, take a look at Steppenwolf’s reveal of Fury’s true identity. Will the daughter of one of Earth’s greatest heroes become its greatest villain? Place your bets in the comments section below and keep reading EARTH 2 to see what happens next!

EARTH 2 #8, in stores now, is written by James Robinson and illustrated by Yildiray Cinar, Ryan Winn and Ruy Jose.

This Just Happened: Kneel Before Grodd

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read THE FLASH #15 and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!)

Earlier this week, we showed you an exclusive preview of THE FLASH #15 and mentioned that Barry Allen would have to go to extreme measures to defeat Grodd while the Gorillas take over the Gem Cities. Well if you picked up the issue when it hit stores this past Wednesday, you know exactly what we were talking about!

In the acclaimed series’ current arc, “Gorilla Warfare,” King Grodd and his gorilla army invade Central City in order to steal the Speed Force from The Flash. But when all of these gorillas are too much for Barry Allen to handle on his own, he finds unlikely allies to help him defend the city: the Rogues!

Leaving the Rogues to defend the city, The Flash battles Grodd, who is not only a giant talking gorilla with advanced technology and super strength – he has now also harnessed the Speed Force’s energy! Has The Flash finally met his match?

On the other side of town, Turbine promises Patty (the love of Barry Allen's life) that he will help her find Barry if she helps him find a certain someone first. Together, they visit Solovar, a time traveling gorilla, who promises to help save the city from Grodd’s reign. Meanwhile, the just released from jail Daniel West searches for his sister, Iris, in the midst of the battle. Little does he know, she’s trapped in the Speed Force.

Just as Grodd is about to end Barry’s life, Solovar and the humans arrive via teleportation, and he sacrifices himself to save the life of the fastest man alive. And as if that’s not enough shock for one day, Patty discovers that Barry is The Flash in that very same moment!

Flash forward to the events of this week’s issue, FLASH #15. Thanks to Turbine and Patty, Grodd has now lost the energy of the Speed Force. But the gorilla king is the least of their worries, as Barry still lies unconscious while the city falls to the power of Grodd’s merciless army.

There is only one thing that can save them all: Speed Mind. When Barry’s body lies paralyzed, his thoughts race forward revealing possible scenarios that all lead to the defeat of the humans and triumph of the gorillas.

In a true act of selflessness, Barry can only think of one solution that can save Central City and perhaps the world: He has to give himself over to Grodd!

Below, take a look at the final page of THE FLASH #15 as Barry Allen awakens and realizes the sacrifice he must make, and place your bets for what that means for the future of The Scarlet Speedster in the comments section below.

THE FLASH #15 is in stores now and comes to you from the creative team of Francis Manapul, Brian Buccellato, Marcus To, and Ryan Winn.

And don’t miss DETECTIVE COMICS #2 and SWAMP THING #2, both on sale tomorrow.

On DETECTIVE COMICS #1:

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC Comics-The New 52, Thursday Evening (ET) Edition

In Los Angeles this Friday? COMIC BOOK RESOURCES and Golden Apple Comics will be co-hosting a wrap party for the release of the first issues of DC Comics-The New 52. In attendance will be Brian Buccellato (THE FLASH), Bernard Chang (DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS), Dan DiDio (O.M.A.C.), Joshua Hale Fialkov (I, VAMPIRE), Sterling Gates (HAWK & DOVE), Adam Glass (Suicide Squad), Kyle Higgins (NIGHTWING/DEATHSTROKE) and Scott Lobdell (SUPERBOY/TEEN TITANS/RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS). For full details about the event, head on over to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES.

IGN continued their series of interviews with all of the creative teams behind DC Comics-The New 52. “I'm already growing attached to our first villain (and creation), Mob Rule,” THE FLASH co-writer Brian Buccellato said. “We are NOT making life easy for The Flash…why should we?”

And speaking of THE FLASH, IFANBOY has selected the first issue as their “Pick of the Week.” This marks the fifth consecutive week that they’ve chosen a title from DC Comics-The New 52. Ron Richards wrote a fantastic post about his connection to the character to accompany their selection. “When creating stories about The Flash, it’s all about speed and momentum,” he wrote. “Both in depicting The Flash within the book and the pace of the story itself. It’s clear with THE FLASH #1 that Manpul and Buccellato understand that. The kinetic energy that comes from drawing The Flash clearly is spread to the story itself and as of right now, I’m super excited to be a fan of The Flash once again.”

IGN also caught up with I, VAMPIRE writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and AQUAMAN writer Geoff Johns. “She's a lot more aggressive than most of our heroes in the DC Universe. But she is incredibly strong and she's incredibly loyal,” Johns said of Mera. “The first issue kind of sets the stage for Aquaman and then Mera comes into the book, and – I think it's issue #6 – is actually just going to focus on Mera. So for me, ever since BLACKEST NIGHT, pulling her out of obscurity and putting her into it and building her up, I think it just makes Aquaman stronger and it adds another iconic female superhero to the DC Universe.”

Want previews of some of next week’s second issues?

MTV GEEK has your first look at DETECTIVE COMICS #2, by Tony S. Daniel, Ryan Winn and Sandu Florea.

COMICVINE has the exclusive preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #2, written by Dan Jurgens and featuring art by Aaron Lopresti and Matt Ryan.

We don’t know about you, but we’re sure going to miss seeing USA TODAY and THE NEW YORK TIMES’ weekly reviews of all the week’s releases.

And you may have noticed that NEW YORK MAGAZINE featured ANIMAL MAN in the “brilliant” section of their Approval Matrix, saying that issue #1 takes the book’s premise into “great, creepy territory.”

To be continued …
