“Zombie superheroes brought to life by the Black Lanterns. Soooooo metal!”

That's Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian's review of BLACKEST NIGHT, which he lists as one of his favorite comic books of all time. Head over to Revolver Magazine to check out Scott's full list of top books.

Scott Ian is teaming up again with his LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL collaborator, Sam Kieth, to write a new DEMON miniseries that'll be out later this year. Check out our Source announcement of the series to sneak peek at Sam Kieth's art for the book.

DCU in 2011: Scott Ian and Sam Kieth take on THE DEMON

kiethdemon

Metal fans will recognize Scott Ian as the guitarist from the legendary band Anthrax and comics fans will recognize him as the writer of last year's LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL.

Between releasing "Ironiclast", the debut album of his newest band, The Damned Things (which features members of Anthrax, Fall Out Boy and Every Time I Die), just last month and launching a nationwide tour on January 19th, the busy musician and writer is announcing that he's writing a new miniseries starring Etrigan, The Demon, with his LOBO collaborator Sam Kieth on art duties, which'll hit comic shops later this year.

Scott had a few words to say about the new series:

Holy crap I am excited to be writing The Demon for DC in 2011! I've been a fan of Etrigan since I was kid buying comics off of the racks. Jack Kirby created him for Hell's sake and now I get to spew Hellfire like it's never been spewed before. And I get to blow up Las Vegas.

It's going to be a real vulgar display of power (pun intended).

Thanks DC for sending me to Hell and back!

-Scott Ian

A few links of note for Wednesday: EW on BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE, LOBO links

BMDSAV Cv1 var

Over at EW.com's SHELF LIFE blog, writer Ken Tucker puts the spotlight on the BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE SPECIAL. Not only does Ken call the book "the best comic book team-up of the week," but he also gives props to writer Brian Azzarello and artist Phil Noto by tabbing the issue "a swift, clever murder mystery wrapped in an adventure tale." High praise indeed.

• Additionally, both CRAVE ONLINE and THE OKLAHOMA GAZETTE had kind words for Scott Ian and artist Sam Kieth's LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL #1.

All aboard the Highway to Hell with Lobo

Ready for a Lobo tale like no other? Is that possible, you ask? Well, you've never seen Lobo like this before. And by "like this" I mean written by heavy metal icon Scott Ian, with art by the legendary Sam Kieth. Got your attention? Good.

Lobo's not shy when it comes to make enemies. The Main Man could probably care less about who likes or dislikes him. When you live your life as loud, loose and violent as Lobo, you might pick up an enemy or 12 along the way. An enemy like, well, Satan himself. Doesn't get any bigger bad than that, does it?

And Satan, my friends, does not play around. Hell's iron-fisted ruler has a serious mad-on for the last Czarnian, and he's gonna hit Lobo right in his blackened, scabrous heart. So Lobo's just gonna have to hit him harder. Repeatedly. In the FACE. But first, Lobo has to go to Hell...a little sooner than anticipated.

Ian makes his comics debut, joining forces with visionary artist Kieth to bring you a Lobo story that's so over the top, you won't even remember what the top used to look like! Bleeding dolphins, demonic Chihuahuas, the world's worst cruise ship, exploding moons, severed heads, and still more sick fraggin' stuff all await you on the Highway to Hell — don't miss a single twisted page. In fact, get a dose by scrolling below.

LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL #1 hits 11/4.

More art and info on LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL

Last week, we announced that Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and artist Sam Kieth would be pairing up for LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL, a two-issue mini-series kicking off in November. But did you think we'd stop there? We caught up with Ian to get the lowdown on what fans should expect from the series, which should be just what Lobo fans have been craving. Take it away, Scott:

"When DC approached me about writing a book for them I couldn't get the words, 'How about a black metal reboot of everyone's favorite 1960's rock band comic The Maniaks?'  out of my mouth fast enough. As security was escorting me from the building I was able to get the guards hand off of my mouth long enough to yell 'How about a hilariously horrifying all-out brutal tale of murder, mayhem and destruction unlike you have ever seen about the main man himself, Lobo?' -- Sold!

"And thus my lifelong dream as a comic book fan to be able to write a comic book has come true. And what a FRAGGIN' BOOK IT IS MY FRIENDS.

Lobo goes to Hell. Not soon enough."

And because we know you love pretty pictures, here are two more Sam Kieth images from the project.

Some news: Unveiling LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL

You've heard rumblings and seen reports here and there, but, as always, The Source is here for the official word on things. So, here goes:

Starting in November, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian will be writing a two-issue, Prestige Format series titled LOBO: HIGHWAY TO HELL, featuring the stunning artwork of industry legend Sam Kieth. The series, obviously, stars everyone's favorite Czarnian, Lobo, and I'm not putting on the hyperbole hat when I say the artwork is Sam Keith at his very best. But don't take my word for it. We cornered DCU Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler to give us the lowdown. Take it away, Ian:

“This is everything you know and love about Lobo – extreme violence, cursing, drinking, extremer violence...Scott was born to write this series!  And Sam has blown our minds every step of the way.  I honestly think this is some of the coolest work he’s ever done.  He manages to pull off a surprise on every page.  It totally rules.”

And now, the main event. Some jaw-dropping art to kick off your weekend:
