(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Tuesday Evening (ET) Edition

We’ve got some fun afternoon bites for you!

Head on over to the official Green Lantern fan page on Facebook for an exclusive preview of GREEN LANTERN CORPS #2, in stores tomorrow.

UGO profiled Batman, giving a crash course in the history of the Dark Knight’s evolving looks. Displaying interpretations of him across various mediums including comic books, film, television and video games, UGO’s run down of Batman is a true testament to the character’s prolific status in pop culture.

And speaking of Batman, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES gave BATMAN #2 a 5-star review. "More comics need to be just like this,” they wrote of the book by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion.

Meanwhile, THE UPTOWNER interviewed co-writer and artist Scott McDaniel about setting STATIC SHOCK in Harlem. “Harlem provides his base of operations, his home and his school,” McDaniel said of protagonist Virgil Hawkins’ neighborhood. “For now, Harlem represents home, safety, security, normalcy. But for the superhero, those precious things never last.”

To be continued …

Marc Bernardin to write for STATIC SHOCK

New York-based writer Marc Bernardin is the new ongoing writer for STATIC SHOCK, the Harlem-based superhero in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52.

A writer on the SyFy Channel’s ALPHAS, Bernardin is also known for his work on THE HIGHWAYMEN and THE AUTHORITY comic books and as a former writer for ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY. Bernardin’s debut as the writer of STATIC SHOCK will be issue #7, with Scott McDaniel remaining on the title as illustrator.

What can fans expect from the new creative team? While keeping up the action that Static fans have come to expect, Bernardin will also be focusing on Static’s teenaged alter-ego - Virgil Hawkins - and his family life, because it's not always easy being a young superhero in a new city.

"The thing that excites me, as both a writer and a reader, about STATIC SHOCK is that it features a hero that we don't really know yet -- at least, in comics, anyway. (Fans of the Static Shock TV show will kindly forgive me.) Virgil Hawkins is young, still figuring out the full extent of his powers, and navigating the full range of teenage tragedies: Being the new kid in a new school, asking out the pretty girl, finding time for his homework, etc. And he's one of the few young heroes without a built-in father figure: He's not an offshoot of Batman, Green Lantern, Flash, Wonder Woman, or the Martian Manhunter. He's his own man, for better or for worse. And all of that offers a lot of grist for the writer-y mill. And I'd be lying if I said that I didn't feel a humbling sense of responsibility to get this one right. The late Dwayne McDuffie still stands as a titan in this industry – and while I'm not so presumptuous as to think I can write Static as well as he did, I'm hoping I can write a Static he'd get a chuckle out of."

(Everybody’s Talkin’ About) DC Comics-The New 52, Tuesday Morning (ET) Edition

The previews for the second issues of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 continue to roll in. Take a look at what people are saying about the books on sale tomorrow:

Following up on their recent preview of his DEMON KNIGHTS #1, the Paul Cornell enthusiasts at WIRED’s UNDERWIRE have an exclusive 4-page glimpse of STORMWATCH #2 by Cornell, Miguel Sepulveda and Al Barrionuevo.

AIN’T IT COOL NEWS interviewed MEN OF WAR writer Ivan Brandon to accompany their exclusive preview of issue #2. “He's of a different era,” Brandon said of the difference between Frank and Jack Rock. “And he's dealing with the weight of that lineage, of being down the line from a great man who was a hero in a war that didn't throw the term around. Frank Rock was a natural. Joe Rock is younger, still learning how to be a hero.”

Meanwhile, YAHOO's ASSOCIATED CONTENT has your first look at STATIC SHOCK #2. “This decision better integrates Static into the wider DCU by placing him in a major city already populated by other DCU heroes (Hawkman, Captain Atom),” said the series’ co-writer and artist Scott McDaniel about relocating Virgil Hawkins and his family to New York City. “This relocation forces the character to take the next step in his development.”

Static Shock to star in his own book this spring

It's been almost ten years since Static Shock had a book of his own, but that'll change this spring when writer Felicia Henderson and artists Scott McDaniel and Jonathan Glapion bring Virgil Hawkins back for a new ongoing series!

We asked writer Felicia Henderson to tell us a bit about what it’s like to be bringing the character back:

I always had my fingers crossed about Static getting his own book, again.  In fact, I stalked Dan DiDio about the idea.  I’m also a big Dwayne McDuffie fan, and if I could choose my real life little brother, he’d be Static!  I love his relationship with his family, particularly with his sister. It feels very grounded and real to me. I love how much he cares about Dakota and that he’s a typical guy in a lot of ways. And nothing’s more fun to write than raging hormones, a dedication to doing the right thing for the right reasons, all while still trying to figure out who you are and what you really want.

Check out Keron Grant's cover to STATIC SHOCK #1, hitting stores in May.

Has The Absence gotten the best of Batman in BATMAN AND ROBIN #19?

If we've learned anything from Paul Cornell and Scott McDaniel's Batman and Robin issues, it's that The Absence isn't quite all there up in her noggin, and I'm not just talking about the giant hole in her head. The lady's scary-crazy.

You might've also learned just how well Paul Cornell can write a cool villain -- if you're a Batman fan who hasn't yet checked out his killer Lex Luthor stories occurring in ACTION COMICS, you're missing out.

BATMAN ROBIN #19 wraps up the three-part "The Sum of Her Parts" story and is on sale next week. Pete Tomasi and Patrick Gleason will be taking the Batman and Robin reigns with issue #20.

Batman and Robin get acquainted with 'The Absence' in Batman and Robin #18

Between Peacock in the pages of BATMAN and The Absence in the next issue of BATMAN AND ROBIN, our caped crusaders have their hands full with mysterious, dangerous women this month.

Paul Cornell, Scott McDaniel and Rob Hunter introduce us to The Absence, a psychopathic villain with an origin story gruesome enough that I couldn't in good conscience post it here. (Hint: She wasn't born with that hole in the middle of her forehead.)

If you're not squeamish, you can check out what I'm talking about in BATMAN AND ROBIN #18, on sale Wednesday.
