SDCC 2012: Mad about MAD

This weekend, thousands of the best writers, artists, editors and journalists have gathered in San Diego for Comic-Con, in what’s become one of the most important and prestigious pop culture events in the nation. So what is MAD doing there? We’re still trying to figure that out, but today we’re taking a break from the figuring to host “Mad about MAD,” a no-holds-barred Q&A panel featuring MAD magazine editor John Ficarra, art director Sam Viviano, assistant art director Ryan Flanders, Sergio Aragones, Tom Richmond and Peter Kuper.

So far it looks like the audience will be comprised of a few people who fell asleep during the panel before ours and a crew of confused Klingons looking for the bathroom. Oh, and you, of course! You can follow along with the action as it takes place below. It’s our live coverage of the Mad about MAD Comic-Con panel, and it’s available to you for absolutely free. Because, really, who would want to pay for it?

SDCC 2012: DC Entertainment - All Access: OGNs

From modern reimaginings of classic characters and their origins, to completely original stories from some of the best writers in any medium—this has been a stellar year for original graphic novels at DC and Vertigo. If you prefer displaying your comics on a bookshelf and reading stories that are designed specifically for the graphic novel format, you may want to pay particular attention to this panel, which will shed light on the creation of some of DC Entertainment’s most popular and critically acclaimed 2012 graphic novels, while giving you a glimpse at what you can expect next from DC and Vertigo in this popular format.

John Cunningham is moderating this one, and he’s joined in room 6DE by a team of panelists that include DC Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras, Vertigo Senior VP – Executive Editor Karen Berger, Anthony Bourdain (Get Jiro!), Langdon Foss (Get Jiro!), Geoff Johns (Batman: Earth One), J. Michael Straczynski (Superman: Earth One) and Shane Davis (Superman: Earth One).

SDCC 2012: Vertigo: Get Jiro!

In a future where master chefs control the city like crime lords and diners will literally kill for a seat at the best restaurants, one renegade sushi chef will ignite a war between kitchens that will leave far more than discarded seafood in its wake. GET JIRO! is a stylized send-up of modern food culture that could only come from the mind of Anthony Bourdain, the New York Times bestselling author and star of TV’s “No Reservations” and “The Layover.” Released earlier this month to great acclaim, Get Jiro! is an original graphic novel co-written by Joel Rose and drawn by Langdon Foss.

Gathered together in room 6DE, moderator John Cunningham along with Anthony Bourdain, Langdon Foss and Vertigo Senior VP – Executive Editor Karen Berger are all set to discuss this remarkable project and answer questions from the audience.

If you’ve read the graphic novel, you understand why we’re hoping no one asks them for a California Roll. But if anyone does, you’ll be the first to know as we bring the panel to you live:
