Preview Monday: THE MOVEMENT #1 and ACTION COMICS #20

Welcome back to another installment of Preview Monday! This week, we’re giving you exclusive first looks at THE MOVEMENT #1 and ACTION COMICS #20.

This week sees the launch of the eagerly anticipated and all-new ongoing monthly series THE MOVEMENT. Set in Coral City, THE MOVEMENT centers around a group of young people with extraordinary abilities, who take matters of justice into their own hands after the corrupt local police department is exposed. But how will the rest of the world react to these teens? And with so much power at their disposal, can they really be trusted to work towards a greater good? THE MOVEMENT #1 comes to you from writer Gail Simone (BATGIRL; SECRET SIX) and artist Freddie Williams II (CAPTAIN ATOM; GREEN ARROW).

Meanwhile, in ACTION COMICS #20, the Man of Steel must save the people in Suicide Slum, who have become infected with the alien virus that attacked Superman last month. Along with the help of Dr. Veritas, Kal-El  will need to get the answers to fight this new threat quickly – before it continues to mutate and grow into a completely unstoppable force and even when he does Lex Luthor is still on the loose! Plus, in the backup story, journey to the world of Krypton! From the creative team of Andy Diggle, Tony S. Daniel, and Matt Banning on the main story and Scott Lobdell and Frank Hannah writing with Philip Tan and Jonathan Glapion on art for the back-up, ACTION COMICS #20 lands in stores this Wednesday.

Gail Simone Talks The Launch of THE MOVEMENT

Back in February, THE HUFFINGTON POST announced the launch of the new ongoing monthly and politically charged series, THE MOVEMENT. Hitting stores next month, THE MOVEMENT #1 comes to you from the creative team of writer Gail Simone and artist Freddie Williams II.

“The fun of something like THE MOVEMENT is that it’s a logical extension of how citizens who aren’t media giant journalists, Gotham billionaires, or mythical princesses view the way power works in the DCU,” Simone revealed to COMIC VINE. “How does someone feel when the world is full of superheroes, but all the problems of the world still exist? “

“I don't think the book is about liberal vs. conservative,” the writer continued to NEWSARAMA. “It's about values that comics have always been about, the struggle against injustice on behalf of the little guy, the powerless and innocent. That's pretty bi-partisan.”

As for what characters will be appearing in the series?

“It's mostly new characters, but a couple might have subtle ties to the DCU at large,” Simone divulged to COMIC BOOK RESOURCES. “I am absolutely in love with the core cast, I think they're fresh and thrilling and unlike the characters in any other comic. That said, sharp-eyed readers have already spotted two familiar characters; Katharsis, the brutal avenger from the popular Knightfall arc in BATGIRL, and Tremor, a wonderful badass character who appeared in the pre-[New] 52 SECRET SIX. It's a cast of favorites for me; I haven't had this much fun with a cast since the Secret Six!”

For more from Gail Simone about the launch of THE MOVEMENT, check out the full interviews that ran with the writer this morning in COMIC BOOK RESOURCES, NEWSARAMA, and COMIC VINE. And check out the gallery above for a sneak peek at some of the inaugural issue’s interior art by Freddie Williams II.

THE MOVEMENT #1 arrives in stores on May 1.

We are faceless. We are limitless. We see all. And we do not forgive.

Who defends the powerless against the GREEDY and the CORRUPT? Who protects the homeless and poverty-stricken from those who would PREY upon them in the DARK OF NIGHT?

When those who are sworn to protect us abuse their power, when toxic government calls down super-human lackeys to force order upon the populace...finally, there is a force, a citizen’s army, to push order BACK.

Let those who abuse the system know this as well: We have our OWN super humans now. They are not afraid of your badges or Leagues. And they will not be SILENCED.

We are your neighbors. We are your co-workers. And we are your children.

THE HUFFINGTON POST announces THE MOVEMENT and THE GREEN TEAM

It’s the 1% plus the 99%!

This morning, THE HUFFINGTON POST exclusively announced two all-new series that will be joining “The Edge” family of titles in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52: THE MOVEMENT and THE GREEN TEAM. Tackling themes surrounding Occupy Wall Street, these two new ongoing series will each represent one side of this social movement.

Hitting shelves on May 1, THE MOVEMENT comes to you from the creative team of writer Gail Simone and artist Freddie Williams II.

“THE MOVEMENT is an idea I've had for some time,” Simone told THE HUFFINGTON POST. “It's a book about power -- who owns it, who uses it, who suffers from its abuse. As we increasingly move to an age where information is currency, you get these situations where a single viral video can cost a previously unassailable corporation billions, or can upset the power balance of entire governments. And because the sources of that information are so dispersed and nameless, it's nearly impossible to shut it all down.”

And with THE GREEN TEAM, which lands in stores on May 22, Eisner Award-winning creative team Art Baltazar and Franco team up with artist Ig Guara for their DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 debut.

“The real question is: Can money buy you anything in the DC universe? Would it make you powerful? Can it make you a hero? Can money make you…Super?” Baltazar teased about the series.

“If you had unlimited wealth, could you use that to make the lives of people better? Would you help your fellow man? Would you buy powers? You need to read this and find out,” continued Franco.

Head on over to THE HUFFINGTON POST to read their full coverage and don’t forget to pick up THE MOVEMENT and THE GREEN TEAM when they launch this spring!
