We are faceless. We are limitless. We see all. And we do not forgive.

Who defends the powerless against the GREEDY and the CORRUPT? Who protects the homeless and poverty-stricken from those who would PREY upon them in the DARK OF NIGHT?

When those who are sworn to protect us abuse their power, when toxic government calls down super-human lackeys to force order upon the populace...finally, there is a force, a citizen’s army, to push order BACK.

Let those who abuse the system know this as well: We have our OWN super humans now. They are not afraid of your badges or Leagues. And they will not be SILENCED.

We are your neighbors. We are your co-workers. And we are your children.

Preview Monday: THRESHOLD #2 and SAUCER COUNTRY #12

Welcome back for another installment of Preview Monday! This week, we’re giving you exclusive first looks at THRESHOLD #2 and SAUCER COUNTRY #12.

Following last month’s action packed debut issue of THRESHOLD, the hunt is on for the newest contestants in “The Hunted,” a reality TV style competition show that expands an entire alien solar system! This week, the show introduces its latest contestant: Jaimie Reyes (a.k.a. Blue Beetle)! What do the producers have planned for this reluctant Reach warrior? Could they involve Green Lantern Jediah Caul? Also, be sure not to miss the latest chapter of Larfleeze’s back up story! Will Larfleeze ever find the thieves responsible for stealing all of his treasures, and most importantly, his power battery? Find out in THRESHOLD #2, in stores this Wednesday, written by Keith Giffen and illustrated by Tom Raney, Phil Winslade, and Scott Kolins. Click here for an exclusive preview of the issue.

Also this week, “President’s Day” begins in SAUCER COUNTRY #12. While Arcadia races to close the gap on her rival in the election, Professor Kidd’s life is falling apart. Will Arcadia continue to trust him after he reveals a startling secret about himself? Written by Paul Cornell and drawn by Ryan Kelly, SAUCER COUNTRY #12 lands in stores this Wednesday. Click here for an exclusive preview of the issue.

5.2 Reasons to Read DC Comics...Even if You Don't Like Super Heroes

We love comic books. Clearly. Just look at the piles of single issues stacked on our desks like the world’s most psychotically dangerous game of Jenga. Or take a gander at the literal butt ton (approximately 2.5 pancake pounds for your metric folks out there) of trade paperbacks lining our bookshelves. (Don’t look in the closet though. You don’t want to know what’s in there.)

We love comics—because like novels and television shows and movies they allow us to escape from the mediocrity of reality (stupid reality!) and enter a world where anything is possible (where are our teleporters, real life, where?!). Sure, many of those worlds include slipping on a costume and fighting off evildoers as one of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, but like television, novels and movies, the breadth of the medium spans all sorts of genres.

And that brings us to the point of this week’s column. With so much attention directed at characters like Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, and so many great storylines like “Throne of Atlantis” and “Death of the Family” stealing the spotlight, it’s easy to forget that there’s plenty to love at DC, even if you don’t love super heroes. We don’t just publish super hero comics in DC COMICS – THE NEW 52. In fact, we can list off at least 5.2 Reasons to Read DC Comics…Even if You Don’t Like Super Heroes!

1. Sword of Sorcery

Sword of Sorcery combines the politics, world building and intrigue of a certain incredibly popular, critically successfully HBO television series with the adventure and magic of Harry Potter and the action and whimsy of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Combine all that with the beautiful art of Justice League International’s Aaron Lopresti, and…well, don’t break your brain trying to imagine it. Just read it and you’ll see.

2. Demon Knights

Demon Knights takes a more classic approach to the fantasy genre. Heck, in the first issue, all the characters meet in an inn—the go-to opening for a D&D campaign. They then fight a pack of knife-wielding dinosaurs. That’s right. DINOSAURS. Again, just read it. It’s the sort of unbridled, imaginative awesome that only fantasy can deliver. It’s FANTASY-TIC.

3. Threshold

Okay, so maybe you’re not a fan of swords and sorcery and instead find more appeal in the vastness of space. Well, set your phaser to stun, point it at your face and fire cause this comic is going to leave you breathless. Threshold is a sci-fi anthology series that debuted last month. It features a two-fisted main story that reads like a space-based “Most Dangerous Game” style adventure starring both a former Green Lantern and an insanely badass looking Captain K’Rot dual-wielding blaster pistols. Your move, Bugs.

4. All-Star Western

Pretty much in the title on this one. All-Star Western tracks the adventures of the good, the bad and the ugly in the Old West era of the DCU. Incidentally, series protagonist Jonah Hex fits all three of those categories (ESPECIALLY ugly…but please don’t tell him we said that). However, the cast also includes sharp-shooting heroes like Nighthawk and Cinnamon, the deadly Z.C. Branke and Tallulah Black, and the legendary Amadeus Arkham (he founded some sort of institution you may have heard of in Gotham).

5. Dial H

If you’re familiar with China Miéville’s work, then you get why Dial H isn’t your typical super hero adventure. If you’re not familiar, we seriously can’t explain it. It’s like a Grant Morrison comic—you can’t explain it; you have to EXPERIENCE it. However, suffice to say that it’s a one of a kind comic unlike anything else in The New 52…or anywhere else in comic book land.

5.1 Justice League Dark

Exploring the supernatural side of the DC Universe with a host of magic-and-monster-based characters.

5.2 Constantine

Classifying the upcoming Constantine series would be almost contrary to the character himself, who simply defies classification. But if there’s one thing he definitely doesn’t see himself as, it’s a super hero.

This Just Happened: Larfleeze Is Robbed

SPOILER ALERT: If you have not read THRESHOLD #1 and do not wish to know what happens, stop reading this post now (major spoilers ahead!)

Back in October, NEWSARAMA announced a new ongoing series that would reshape the science fiction landscape of the DC Universe. This past week, THRESHOLD finally hit the spinner rack!

THRESHOLD promises high-octane space adventure from the master of the genre: writer Keith Giffen. Spinning out of last week’s GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS ANNUAL #1, the series’ debut issue launches a new sci-fi epic entitled “The Hunted” and also features a new back-up story starring fan-favorite Orange Lantern, Larfleeze!

So what is “The Hunted”? It’s a reality TV-style competition show that spans an entire alien solar system. Each contestant is chosen from those that pose a threat to the intergalactic alien rulers called the Tenebrian Dominion. Otherwise known as traitors and criminals, the contestants have bounties placed on their heads, kicking off the hunt!

Every citizen under the Tenebrian Dominion is invited to participate in the show. All they have to do is kill one of “The Hunted” and collect their bounty prize. Citizens can either hunt alone or work together in teams – all that matters is that the contestant ends up stone cold dead.

Jediah Caul, a disgraced Green Lantern who has been stripped of his powers, is now one of “The Hunted.” With an entire planet looking to kill him, it seems that survival isn’t in the cards for this ex-Lantern. But with the help of another contestant, he is able to escape the spotlight and survive … for now.

Meanwhile, in the far off Vega system, Larfleeze has decided it is time for a book to be written about himself. With the help of his new servant, Stargrave, Larfleeze tells the tale of his “humble” beginnings and how he became the one and only Orange Lantern.

Upon the conclusion of his tale, the orange power of the ring – the essence of avarice –takes hold and Larfleeze decides he is the only one that can own the book. In his mind, this book of knowledge is power … and nobody shall hold power over Larfleeze!

Suddenly, a news alert interrupts his ranting and a new Orange Lantern is revealed to be roaming the galaxy. Enraged, Larfleeze takes off and leaves Stargrave to stand watch over all of his possessions.

But, as the existence of the other Orange Lantern is revealed to be a hoax, Larfleeze returns to his home ready to begin plotting revenge on those who came up with such a horrible joke. But something has changed and his worst nightmare has come true …

Larfleeze has been robbed! Will he ever get back all of his things? And what price will he make the thief(s) pay when/if he finds them? Place your bets in the comments section below and keep reading THRESHOLD to find out what happens next!

Below, take a look at the final page from “Nine Tenths of the Law” as Larfleeze discovers his empty home. And don’t forget to pick up your copy of THRESHOLD #1, written by Keith Giffen and illustrated by Tom Raney and Scott Kolins, in stores now!
