Tuesday Roundup: December 4th

All month long, comic book fans will be coming together to celebrate the season of giving, togetherness, joy and…rot?

Well, yes. The holidays may be known as a festive time, but with Rotworld in full swing, we’re bringing a little decomposition to December in 2012. The shocking, suspenseful storyline which unfolds each month in both Swamp Thing and Animal Man continues in both comics this week. ANIMAL MAN #15 finds Buddy Baker, Black Orchid, John Constantine, Beast Boy, Steel and Frankenstein running into the ferocious, furry frenzy of Gorilla Grodd and his minions. And judging by this week’s “brainy” new preview, it doesn’t look like they’re be teaming up to fight a common enemy. Then in SWAMP THING #15, Swamp Thing and Deadman make their way to Gotham, but first they must deal with William Arcane. It’s probably safe to assume young William’s not going to make Santa’s nice list this year…

Of course, that’s just the start of this week’s excitement. “Death of the Family” visits Detective Comics this week, and we have three different links to a slick preview of issue #15 below. All this, plus new Before Watchmen: Comedian, Before Watchmen: Minutemen, Earth 2, Green Arrow, Dial H and the debut of Human Bomb. Also, a special shout-out this week to the Superman Facebook page, which recently passed the 3 million mark. That’s a whole lotta “likes,” and as a thank you, we debuted this week’s ACTION COMICS #15 preview there.

Tuesday Roundup: November 27th

This week marks the release of BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE #4, making Silk Spectre the first Before Watchmen title to reach its grand conclusion. Like all getaways, this road trip to 60s-era San Francisco seems to have flown by. However, before we all say goodbye to Sally Jupiter and the “Summer of Love,” we have one more beautiful (if a little tear-stained) issue to look forward to. And we do mean beautiful. Take a look at Wired’s preview of it below, if you have any doubt.

Even better, that’s only half of the Before Watchmen excitement arriving this week. We also get the latest installment of Before Watchmen: Ozymandias, featuring the unrivaled writing of Len Wein and art of Jae Lee. Both of those eagerly anticipated comics hit stores alongside plenty of equally anticipated titles from DC COMICS – THE NEW 52, including TALON #2, BATMAN, INCORPORATED #5, THE FLASH #14, JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #14 and AQUAMAN #14, which not only introduces the Ocean Master, but serves as a prologue to the upcoming “Throne of Atlantis.”

Tuesday Roundup: November 14th

Can we all agree that October was a terrifying month? Whew… Just the memory of that fateful day is enough to give us all a cold sweat.

No, we’re not talking about Halloween, we’re talking about the day we first read BATMAN #13, which kicked off the much anticipated “Death of the Family” storyline with one shocker of a cliffhanger. We’ve been waiting a whole month to find out what happens next, and now that we’re on the brink, we’re starting to wonder if we should be careful what we wish for. Unfortunately, you won’t get any answers about what happened to Alfred in this week’s preview of BATMAN #14, but you will get more Batman and Harley. And speaking of Harley, you’ll get a lot more of her in this week’s SUICIDE SQUAD #14, which is a “Death of the Family” tie-in and is previewed below along with an interview with Adam Glass. Plus, we also have to think of our friend Barbara Gordon, who must confront one very literal demon from her past now that the Joker’s returned. BATGIRL #14 is also part of the “Death of the Family” storyline and is also out this week, along with BATMAN AND ROBIN #14, GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14, SUPERBOY #14 and more than enough to keep you reading and talking till next Halloween (or at least next week).

Remember, remember the…er, seventh of November? Well, it may not work as well as a rhyme or hold any historical significance, but we want you to remember November 7th. That’s the day the next batch of great new DC comics hit your local shop. Though, if you’ve been reading “Rise of the Third Army,” “Rotworld,” or “Hawkman: Wanted,” we don’t see how you could forget! All three exciting storylines get new installments on Wednesday, and considering the cliffhangers some of those titles left off with last month, you’ve likely been counting the days. This Wednesday also marks the debut of Before Watchmen: Moloch, a two-issue miniseries focusing on one of the big villains of Watchmen. Moloch is written by J. Michael Straczynski and drawn by none other than Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets, Spaceman), who knows a thing or two about crime stories. We have previews of all of these titles below, along with first-looks at ACTION COMICS #14, DETECTIVE COMICS #14, GREEN ARROW #14, EARTH 2 #6 and more. Everyone has their favorites in comics. Favorite characters. Favorite writers. Favorite artists. But every now and then, it’s fun, refreshing and absolutely essential to welcome someone new to the fold. After all, all of your favorites were once brand new themselves.

Christy Marx isn’t exactly new to comics and certainly isn’t new to writing fantasy, but she’s new to DC COMICS – THE NEW 52, and new to Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld, which is the anchor series in our new Sword of Sorcery comic. Amethyst made her New 52 debut in last month’s, SWORD OF SORCERY #0, but her adventures continue this week with its issue #1. You can check out a great preview of the issue and an interview with Ms. Marx below. And while you’re at it, be sure to check out the preview of CATWOMAN #13, which features the new creative team of Ann Nocenti and Rafa Sandoval, and the preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE #13, featuring the New 52 debut of Cheetah, and DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #13, which begins a fresh new story featuring Black Lightning and Blue Devil. There’s a whole lot new this week, and it’s standing nicely side-by-side with Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Nightwing, the Minutemen, the Green Lantern Corps and many more of your favorites.

Tuesday Roundup: October 9th

Is it possible to be both giddy and absolutely terrified at the same time? Well, if the start of this week has taught us anything, it would have to be that the answer to that question is yes. There’s no other way to describe how we’re feeling about the start of “Death of the Family” this week. The Joker returns to Gotham and makes his DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 debut in what’s looking to be one of the most terrifying storylines to hit the pages of Batman in ages. And talk about impact! When a villain like the Joker returns, he doesn’t just affect one hero. Not with his history. He’s “killed” Jason Todd, shot and nearly crippled Barbara Gordon, romanced (in the loosest term possible) Harley Quinn, and all of that was before he had one of the most disturbing facelifts in history in the pages of Detective Comics.

You can grab a first-look at the start of “Death of the Family” below in our preview of BATMAN #13. Of course, that’s just the start of what will be hitting shops on Wednesday. You also don’t want to miss BATGIRL #13, which serves as a prelude to “Death of the Family,” the continuation of “Rise of the Third Army” in GREEN LANTERN CORPS #13, TEAM 7#1 and THE PHANTOM STRANGER #1, and the second issue of BEFORE WATCHMEN: DR. MANHATTAN. That’s right, it’s only the second issue, which means if you haven’t been reading this beautiful Before Watchmen book, you don’t have much to get caught up on before Wednesday.

Tuesday Roundup: October 2nd

Usually when there’s talk of new blood in Gotham, it’s time for Gordon to light the bat-signal. But there’s no cause for alarm this week. In fact, there’s reason for celebration as the new Detective Comics creative team makes its eagerly anticipated debut. Writer John Layman and artist Jason Fabok launch a brand new, eight-issue story arc with Wednesday’s DETECTIVE COMICS #13, and you can take your first look at it below (we think “hard-hitting” is an apt description of it). And while you’re in a comic previewing state of mind, why not take a gander at the first issues of “Rotworld” in ANIMAL MAN #13 and SWAMP THING #13. Or “Rise of the Third Army” in GREEN LANTERN #13. Or at Rorschach’s bloody payback in BEFORE WATCHMEN: RORSCHACH #2. Many of our comics ended in cliffhangers going into Zero Month, and we know you’re eager to see how they get resolved.
