An Updated Experience...

A year ago, we launched new websites for DC Comics, Vertigo and MAD Magazine. Since then, you’ve been sharing your thoughts and opinions with us by leaving comments on the three sites, reaching out to us through our contact form, speaking to us at conventions, sending us smoke signals and carrier pigeons… Pretty much any way possible. Most of what we’ve been hearing is great, but we’ve realized for a while that there’s room for improvement, and you can look for the first round of those improvements today.

The first thing you’ll notice is our updated navigation. We’ve reordered the links based on your feedback and have made some changes to our blog that should help you find what you’re looking for much more efficiently.

Starting today, the “Blog” tab which used to be a part of our navigation bar is now a “News” tab that will serve as the home for all of our posts. If you’re looking for 5.2 Reasons, DC Week-In-Review, Preview Monday or other features that are more editorial in nature, you can find them under “For Fans.” If you’re interested in breaking news, announcements, press releases and articles that are largely informational, look for them under “For Press.” And if you’re seeking out fun DC Comics-themed features aimed at parents and families, you’ll find them in our newest section, “For Family,” which is the home of our brand new DC Comics Fan Family blog.

We invite and encourage you to explore and familiarize yourself with these new enhancements, but please bear with us if you find any bugs or anything that doesn’t seem to be working correctly. We’re working to perfect and continually improve your experience, but we ask you to “pardon our dust” over the next few weeks as we get all of these enhancements fully in place.

Explore and enjoy. We look forward to hearing what you think, and remember…this is just the beginning.

DC Comics' 2012 Hall of Fame: Best Dream Come True

2012 was a great year for DC and our fans. Whether it was in the pages of our comics, on the big or small screen or on the floor of our booth at Comic-Con, 2012 was a year of unforgettable moments. Some were thrilling, some were funny and others left us absolutely breathless. In a year full of moments that won’t be forgotten, these are some of the best. Introducing 2012’s DC Comics’ Hall of Fame!

San Diego Comic-Con goers making plans to attend Thursday night’s Vertigo panel likely had no idea that they were about to be treated to one of Comic-Con’s biggest announcements. And we’re not simply talking about this year’s show. We mean one of the biggest surprise announcements in the history of Comic-Con. Neil Gaiman, one of the single most influential and beloved comic book writers in history, is returning to the equally influential and beloved series he created—Sandman. In 2013, Vertigo will be releasing a new story about Morpheus set before the events of SANDMAN #1, with a story and script by Gaiman and art by J.H. Williams III.

Even better, Gaiman announced the project via an exclusive video, allowing all of us to experience the moment, regardless of whether or not we’d made the trek to San Diego.

Announcing TRILLIUM, a new Vertigo series from writer/artist Jeff Lemire

Arriving in 2013, Vertigo will publish TRILLIUM, a limited series written and illustrated by the incomparable Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Animal Man, Justice League Dark, Essex County Trilogy, Ghosts).

We asked Lemire to share some thoughts about the new series and here’s what he said: “As Sweet Tooth moved towards its conclusion earlier this year, I started to look ahead to what my next creator-owned project for DC/Vertigo could be. I pitched a number of ideas to editor Mark Doyle that I wasn't totally happy with.  Finally he pushed me to leave my comfort zone, and get away from the genres and themes that I'd become known for.

Sci-Fi is something I've wanted to tackle for a while. I experimented a bit with it last year when I did the ULTRA THE MULTI-ALIEN short story for Vertigo's STRANGE ADVENTURES anthology and enjoyed that project so much that I was eager to do more. I've also always wanted to do a really powerful, human love story. There have been so few love stories done really well in comics. Preacher and Blankets come to mind as recent successes, but in my mind, it’s still a difficult and rather unexplored genre in the comics medium. It seemed like just the kind of challenge Mark was pushing me to undertake. So, I combined these two interests along with my ongoing fascination with in World War 1, and turn of the century exploration, and the results are TRILLIUM.”

It’s the year 3797 and botanist Nika Temsmith is researching a species of strange plant-based life forms on a remote science station near the outermost rim of colonized space.

It’s the year 1921, and war-scarred explorer William Pike leads an expedition into the dense jungles of
Peru in search of the fabled “Lost Temple of The Incas,” an elusive sanctuary said to have strange healing properties.

Two disparate souls separated by thousands of years and hundreds of millions of miles. Yet they will fall in love and, as a result, bring about the end of the universe. Even though reality is unraveling all around them, nothing can pull them apart. This isn’t just a love story, it’s the last love story ever told.

Lemire continued, “It will be my most ambitious creator-owned project and my most challenging. I think fans of my previous work will see traces of both SWEET TOOTH and THE UNDERWATER WELDER in its chemistry, but I really do want to push myself in new directions as well.

TRILLIUM is a mind-bending sci-fi thriller about the end of the universe. And, it's a story about the dawn of human exploration and its natural conclusion thousands of years away. But most of all it’s a love story. And I can't wait to share it with you.”

Check out Lemire's gorgeous promo images below and get ready for the story to begin in 2013.

Neil Gaiman Announces His Return to One of the Most Celebrated Comic Books of All-Time -- THE SANDMAN

Surprise Announcement at San Diego Comic-Con Pairs Legendary, Award Winning Author with Artist JH Williams III Under DC Entertainment’s Vertigo Imprint

Twenty-five years after one of the most celebrated graphic novels of all-time hit shelves, award winning and critically acclaimed author and screenwriter, Neil Gaiman, announces his return to THE SANDMAN. Gaiman made the surprise announcement, via video, at DC Entertainment’s Vertigo panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.  Karen Berger, Executive Editor of Vertigo, then revealed that Gaiman is paired with artist, JH Williams III (BATWOMAN) for the series, who appeared on stage to an already stunned and elated crowd. THE SANDMAN mini-series will be published by Vertigo in 2013.

One of the few graphic novels ever to be on the New York Times Best Seller list and lauded by critics the world over, THE SANDMAN is credited with changing the path of storytelling in the comic book industry. Gaiman will pick up his pen for the first time in more than 10 years since ending the series to continue a story that he feels still has yet to be told.

"When I finished writing THE SANDMAN, there was one tale still untold. The story of what had happened to Morpheus to allow him to be so easily captured in THE SANDMAN #1, and why he was returned from far away, exhausted beyond imagining, and dressed for war. It was a story that we discussed telling for Sandman's 20th anniversary... but the time got away from us. And now, with Sandman's 25th anniversary year coming up, I'm delighted, and nervous, that that story is finally going to be told,” said Gaiman.

"There's nothing like a Neil Gaiman story," said Berger, "and there's nothing like having Neil back home on THE SANDMAN, his dark, soulful, literary epic that transformed comics and continues to captivate countless new readers year after year. Working with him again, and with JH Williams, the extraordinary and groundbreaking artist, is truly the stuff dreams are made of."

DC Entertainment Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio added, “As accomplished as Neil Gaiman is in other media—whether it be novels, film and even music—he still has an incredible passion and love for comics. It’s exciting to have him back. J.H. Williams will be the perfect complement to Neil’s writing. He has a history of creating art that pushes the boundaries of the medium.”

Each issue of THE SANDMAN mini-series will be published day-and-date digitally.  The title will be announced at a later date.
