Unveiling the details on the WEDNESDAY COMICS collection

wed-copy-copy

WEDNESDAY COMICS, the groundbreaking weekly series featuring the all-star talents of Neil Gaiman, Joe Kubert, Lee Bermejo, Brian Azzarello, Kurt Busiek and many more, was a critical and commercial success across the board, featuring DC's greatest characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern, in stories from the most talented creators in the industry. For 12 weeks, fans were treated to an historic and energized collection of newspaper strips compiled by editor Mark Chiarello that ranged from standard and captivating superhero drama to the surreal and innovative. But wait, there's more?

Just announced at the Baltimore Retailer Summit, we've got the details on the WEDNESDAY COMICS collection, a topic that's been hotly debated and prognosticated by fans since the inception of the series.

The hardcover collection of the series, which will retail at $49.99, will clock in at 11 x 17 inches, which will present the series in a deluxe, big-screen format befitting the series, which was originally printed on broadsheet newspaper pages.

So, there you have it. WEDNESDAY COMICS, presented in oversized and deluxe glory. Not too shabby, huh?

TUESDAY TUNE-UP: WEDNESDAY COMICS takes over San Diego

We're still sifting through all the news and photos from SDCC here at The Source, so thanks to all for being so patient. One of the best things about the show was seeing and hearing how excited people are for WEDNESDAY COMICS. Just a few weeks ago, we asked you, the fans to send over photos of you and your friends cracking open an issue. In San Diego, we managed to snap some photos of fairly famous folks with copies of WEDNESDAY COMICS. So, what do Jimmy Fallon, Brian Posehn, Scott Ian, Tyrese, Bryan Fuller and more have in common? Scroll down. I think it's pretty obvious. Thanks to all for participating.

WEDNESDAY COMICS on a Friday

The day is winding down a bit, but not before we get to experience a dose of the critically acclaimed WEDNESDAY COMICS, live from Comic-Con. DC Art Director Mark Chiarello is the MC tonight, with a collection of talent from WEDNESDAY COMICS. Which talent? Well, if you’re around, swing by Room 5AB and find out. If not – we’ll have photos and audio up soon.

In the meantime, here’s some snazzy art from WEDNESDAY COMICS to keep a smile on your face.

Have you enlisted in DC NATION yet?

dc_nation_1_1280x1024

Yeesh, then what are you waiting for? San Diego is in full swing – the crowds are flowing, the energy is high and I’m sitting down in anticipation of what has become a staple event at comic conventions across the country: Dan’s DC NATION panels.

If you’re at the con – hop to Room 6DE. A DC NATION panel is not to be missed. Part circus, part press conference and all energy and fun, these panels are a highlight for fans and talent alike.

In addition to Dan, we’ve got Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler, writers James Robinson, Geoff Johns, Greg Rucka and a few surprises on the panel, prepared to talk about anything and everything of note in the DCU -- ::cough:: BLACKEST NIGHT ::cough:: WEDNESDAY COMICS ::cough:: BATMAN ::cough – and take fan questions, of course.

If you couldn’t make it out this year, be sure to visit our convention hub to download photos and audio from the panel, which should give you some idea of what all the fuss is about. Then book your ticket for next year. Might as well be ahead of the game, no?

TUESDAY TUNE-UP: WEDNESDAY COMICS WEEK 3

Well, we’re three weeks into the wonderful WEDNESDAY COMICS series, and reactions have been, well, spectacular. And here at The Source, we want to hear from you, the WC reader. What strip did you like last week? Which one is in the lead overall? What are some of your favorite moments so far? Let us know.

And because we realize art is a great motivator, we’ve got a look at next week’s CATWOMAN/THE DEMON strip, from writer Walt Simonson, with amazing art by the incomparable Brian Stelfreeze.

So make click-y with the art and chime in below.

A few links of note for Friday

BLN Cv1 var.indd

It's almost the weekend, so let's give you a few things to read to make the work day go by a tad faster, shall we?

THE NEW YORK TIMES has unveiled it's latest Graphic Novel Best Seller list, and GREEN LANTERN: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS is sitting pretty atop the chart. Other notables: FINAL CRISIS, THE KILLING JOKE, BATMAN R.I.P., JOKER and ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER.

USA TODAY has the second chapter of WEDNESDAY COMICS' SUPERMAN strip. If you haven't read it yet, it's definitely worth the click.

Neil Gaiman was on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" to chat up WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CAPED CRUSADER.

NEWSARAMA's got the latest 20 Questions with Dan DiDio, covering a plethora of topics, including BLACKEST NIGHT, WEDNESDAY COMICS and some surprises.

• The BLACKEST NIGHT goodness continues, with IGN unveiling preview pages from BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #2, CBR reviewed the first issue of the series and MTV's SPLASH PAGE blog gives the book some love.

TUESDAY TUNE-UP: WEDNESDAY COMICS WEEK 2

Well, we're one week in and response to the first issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS has been amazingly positive. We even got some photos out of it.

So, we're back for another installment of TUESDAY TUNE-UP, our weekly WC feature, where the basic question is: What'd you think? What strip did you like best? What surprised you? What left you curious and excited for more? Let us know here in the comments.

And, as promised, we'll be cycling through all the WEDNESDAY COMICS strips to show you a page each week before the issue hits. This week, we've got DEADMAN, by Dave Bullock and Vinton Heuck (with colours by Dave Stewart), which looks quite lovely, if I do say so myself.

Make with the click. Hopefully this'll tide you over until WEDNESDAY COMICS #2 hits tomorrow.

Ask and ye shall receive: Another batch of WEDNESDAY COMICS photos

Hm, maybe we should make this a regular feature here on The Source?

Last week, we put out a call for photos, asking you, the fans, to chime in with pictures of you and your friends reading copies of the first issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS. We got such a great response, we had to post two batches, with the second right here. Thanks to all that participated.

Sometimes, you get exactly what you ask for: WEDNESDAY COMICS photos

So, yesterday we posted our "call for photos." Basically, we wanted to bring the WEDNESDAY COMICS reading experience to life here on The Source, and asked you, the fans, to send us pictures of you and your friends reading the first issue. And, you did. So, here's the first batch of photos. We'll have more tomorrow afternoon, so keep sending them over. Remember, make sure the images are web-ready jpgs (save a blogger some time, will ya?), include a line allowing DC Comics to re-use these photos and make sure you have permissions from anyone else in the photo to send this along. And, because we like giving our fans credit, include the names of all the fine folks photographed.

Got pics of people reading WEDNESDAY COMICS? Send 'em our way

img_6822

From the first mention of WEDNESDAY COMICS months ago, we talked about how we wanted to make reading each issue an experience. Well, now it's on stands and we want to see it as it happens. Fans and retailers -- this is a call to arms. Send us photos of yourself, your customers, your friends, your family – and heck, even strangers -- reading the first issue of WEDNESDAY COMICS and we'll post the best ones here on The Source later this week. (Like the photo above, featuring our VP-Sales, Bob Wayne. Say hi, Bob.)

E-mail your photos here as web-ready jpgs (can you really blame us for not wanting to spend hours watching our computers shrink files? Didn't think so). In the body of the email, please note that you're giving us, the fine folks at DC Comics, the right to re-use these images and post them on The Source. Obviously, keep the photos decent and make sure the people in your pics are okay with you sending the photos to us.

Simple enough, right? So get crackin'. The day is almost done.
