Previews of Wednesday’s DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 Releases

To help kick off 2012, here's a round up of exclusive previews from the first round of fifth issues from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, on sale tomorrow.

ACTION COMICS # 5, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Andy Kubert and Jesse Delperdang, depict's Kal-El's escape from Krypton, and offers a new twist on this iconic sequence which we're seeing for the first time in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. WIRED ran the exclusive preview of the issue on their homepage, with a preview that was shared between their GEEKDAD and UNDERWIRE blogs.

USA TODAY previewed ANIMAL MAN #5 and interviewed series writer Jeff Lemire. "They don't want her put into harm's way," Lemire said of Buddy and Ellen and their powerful daughter, Maxine. "It's really that tension of knowing that they may have to give her up and the greater good might be something that they have to consider rather than just being a family, and whether or not they're willing to do that is going to cause a lot of tension in their marriage and a lot of tension just thematically moving forward."

GAWKER’s KOTAKU debuted five pages from DETECTIVE COMICS #5 and GAWKER’s IO9 has your first look at BATWING #5. Meanwhile, UGO posted the first four pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #5 and COMICVINE has a sneak peek at GREEN ARROW #5. Over at IGN, check out a sequence from MEN OF WAR #5. Meanwhile, REVOLVER MAGAZINE showed pages from O.M.A.C. #5, COMIC BOOK RESOURCES has a glance at SWAMP THING #5, NEWSARAMA previewed RED LANTERNS #5 and IFANBOY has your premiere look at STORMWATCH #5. MTV GEEK ran an exclusive preview of STATIC SHOCK #5 and DC Comics’ official Facebook page posted four pages from HAWK AND DOVE #5.

Previews of Wednesday’s DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 releases

Tomorrow, the next batch of fourth issues from DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 hits stores. Previews of the various issues being released have been running for the past few days across the Internet and we’ve compiled them all here on THE SOURCE for your convenience.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY continued previewing DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 on their homepage by debuting a sequence from JUSTICE LEAGUE #4 that shows off just how cool Aquaman is.

Yesterday, writer Scott Snyder told you that even if you haven’t been reading BATMAN, this week’s issue #4 is a great place to start. Head over to USA TODAY for an exclusive preview of the issue. "You get to delve into Bruce's past and see some of the secret history, both between him and Gotham as a boy and also as a hero struggling with an enemy that he seems to have some sort of emotional conflict with that extends beyond just what he's trying to achieve on a plot level," Snyder told USA TODAY.

Speaking of bat-related previews, MAXIM previewed BIRDS OF PREY #4, IGN has a sneak peek at NIGHTWING #4, MTV GEEK has your first look at CATWOMAN #4 and IFANBOY debuted pages from RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #4.

Meanwhile, AIN’T IT COOL NEWS previewed SUPERGIRL #4, GAWKER’s IO9 premiered a sequence from BLUE BEETLE #4, COMICVINE gave you a glance at LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #4 and NEWSARAMA has an exclusive sneak peek GREEN LANTERN CORPS #4.

Everyone’s Talkin’ About DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, Friday Afternoon (ET) Edition

MAXIM chatted with AQUAMAN writer Geoff Johns who spoke in the defense of Aquaman and his cool cast of characters. . “Her background is really interesting,” Johns said of Mera. “She felt very strong to me, her hydroconnect powers are very interesting - controlling the water is visually beautiful and I felt the character was very appealing. That’s why we introduced her in BLACKEST NIGHT and had her stand on her own before we brought Aquaman in. You know, I think people respond to the character because she is such a strong, confident kickass superhero.”

COMIC BOOK RESOURCES did the Monster Mash with Dan DiDio, Keith Giffen and Jeff Lemire, who teased the upcoming crossover between O.M.A.C. and FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. “The real subtext that's going on here -- and there's actually not that much subtext -- is seeing a little a bit of what Checkmate versus S.H.A.D.E. is about. How the two different agencies compare to each other or how they look at each other,” DiDio said. “The other subplot that is really interesting is, without giving too much away, Brother Eye might want something from S.H.A.D.E. and this might be a way of putting up a big distraction,” Lemire continued. “Trying to slip in the back door.”
