Preview Monday: TEEN TITANS #13 and THE UNWRITTEN #42

For this week’s installment of Preview Monday, we’re giving you exclusive first looks at TEEN TITANS #13 and THE UNWRITTEN #42.

In TEEN TITANS #13, witness the origin of Wonder Girl! While on a dig in Cambodia, Cassandra is forced to save the life of her lover, Diesel, by convincing a spirit that has overtaken his body through an ancient mask to possess her instead. But how will Diesel react when this spirit works its powers on Cassandra instead of on him? And what will Wonder Girl find years later when she brings Superboy and Red Robin to the site where this all happened? From the creative team of Scott Lobdell, Fabian Nicieza and Ale Garza, TEEN TITANS #13 is on sale this Wednesday. Click here for an exclusive preview of the issue.

Tom Taylor needs to get to the land of the dead to rescue Lizzie Hexam, but the only way he can get there is through a story – literally. Sometimes, when a story is so deeply connected to a place, one can sometimes find that place and then simply walk into the story’s world. The nearest location for Tom and company is Australia’s Hanging Rock  – a place steeped in mystery and fiction from film, literature, and local legends. But has Tom chosen the right location? Will be able to, indeed, just walk into that story? And once there, will he be able to find the story Lizzie is trapped in? In stores this week, THE UNWRITTEN #42 comes to you from Mike Carey and Peter Gross. Click here for an exclusive preview of the issue.

New hero Solstice teams up with the Teen Titans

A distress call from Wonder Girl's mother leads the Teen Titans to a far-off archeological dig, where they meet an enigmatic new superhero named Solstice. Can the Titans help her find her missing parents, and discover what long-buried evil ties together a series of mysterious disappearances?

Seeds of this major new Teen Titans storyline were teased in the recent Wonder Girl one-shot - jump on when TEEN TITANS #93 hits stands tomorrow!

Take a sneak peek at next week's WONDER GIRL

Cassie Sandsmark has mother issues. Her relationship with her father isn't on much better terms - she's the daughter of Zeus, yet she's done her best to steer clear of his influences. Even on a weekend getaway from the Titans Tower to visit her mother at an archeological conference, Wonder Girl can't seem to avoid a conflict - whether it's with her parents, or a supervillain.

This WONDER GIRL one-shot by JT Krul and Adriana Melo features the first big role for new Titans hero Solstice and ties into the new arc of TEEN TITANS. The comic hits stores next Wednesday.

Solstice Revealed

tt16649_600x900

Regular SOURCE readers read our little tease of a blog post posted Friday afternoon. In case you missed it, well, there was no art, just the following:

Who is Solstice? We’re not saying. Yet. Stay tuned, SOURCE readers, stay tuned.

We know it’s the holiday season, so we shouldn’t leave you hanging too long . . ..

Solstice will make her first appearance in TEEN TITANS # 90. You’ll want to bag and board that one, folks, because this is a character that folks at the DC offices are already buzzing about in the hallways. Solstice plays a pivotal role in the WONDER GIRL one shot in January and from there will become a regular character in the pages of TEEN TITANS.

Let’s turn it over to TEEN TITANS writer, JT. Krul.

J.T.?

“We've seen glimpses of her before, but starting in March Solstice will take center stage in the pages of Teen Titans. Losing loved ones, haunted by death, or dealing with crazy or downright demonic fathers, the titans seem to always have a dark cloud looming over them. But Solstice will be bringing some much needed light to the team - and that's not just referring to her powers. She's a positive spirit - influenced by the various cultures she's encountered during her travels throughout the world. She embraces life and all the adventure and experiences it offers. The future of the Teen Titans is bright indeed and Solstice will play a big part of that. Don't miss it!”

Intrigued?

Expect to read and see more about Solstice on THE SOURCE in 2011.

But it’s not just about iconic poses. As you can see, each title gets a unique and yet familiar logo treatment that brings the focus on the characters and stars of their respective books. New year. New beginnings. New focus.

This January will see a handful of one-shots spotlighting some of the key players in the DCU by an A-list assortment of creators, including James Robinson, Eric Wallace, J.T. Krul and more. Here’s the breakdown:

In this tie-in to the “JLA Omega” storyline, the new blue and gold team of Congorilla and Mikaal Tomas work to unlock the secrets behind the toxic Omega Man’s dark energy, which encases Washington D.C. To do this they must embark on a quest to find the Fountain of Youth, encountering diverse heroes from the DCU along the way including Animal Man, Sirocco and a certain wonder dog named Rex. And all the while, Mikaal and Congorilla must outrun and outwit a cadre of terrorist assassins from Gorilla City. This is a breakneck chase through the DCU, but with a serious end-goal – saving the lives of their fellow members of the JLA!

Spinning out of the pages of TEEN TITANS comes this spotlight on Cassie Sandsmark, the wonderful Wonder Girl! We checked in with Co-Publisher Dan DiDio for his thoughts on the January theme. Take it away Dan:

“This January, we’re putting the focus squarely on the characters and iconic heroes of the DCU,” said DCU Co-Publisher Dan DiDio. “Not only will we tell new stories some of the more-deserving with special one-shots, but we’ll be giving every title in the line a unique treatment that puts the spotlight on the heroes and villains that populate the DC Universe.”

Experience ADVENTURE COMICS #2 -- Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes

Geoff Johns and superstar artist Francis Manapul continue to tell the tale of the revived Conner Kent, as Superboy settles back into life in Smallville. But all is not well in Superman's hometown. And while Conner reunites with Wonder Girl to discuss their future, Lex Luthor and Brainiac form a partnership that will put the entire DCU at risk.

Meanwhile, in the Legion of Super-Heroes co-feature, co-writers Geoff Johns and Michael Shoemaker team with artist Clayton Henry to spotlight the heroes of the 31st century, as Lightning Lad travels to the prison planet of Takron-Galtos to confront his brother, Lightning Lord, and to learn an unexpected family secret that could set in motion a war to end all wars. Yeah, that big.

ADVENTURE COMICS #2 hits 9/9.
